Why Do We Fight?

Questions came about in thought before and formed into words after that battle,

“Who are these robed individuals? Where did they come from and

What is their purpose?”

The robes were thrown off and the truth that hid behind the masks was revealed. Those who never heard of these pious men exchanged glances, wondering if they were mercenaries or a cult of some sort, but for the ones who had seen the old battle-scarred tabards from another realm had froze in place.

“Why have you returned?”

Why did we return you ask?

To fear the Creator and maintain His Church †

To serve the liege lord in valour and faith †

To refrain from the wanton giving of offence †

To live by honour and for glory †

To despise pecuniary reward †

To obey those placed in authority †

To guard the honour of fellow Vanders †

† To keep faith †

To at all times speak the truth †

To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun †

To never refuse a challenge from an equal †

To never to turn the back upon a foe †

Baudric gives a long sigh, bowing his hood-adorned head. Throughout the ways of the land, he walks with a grim, solemn remorse. What penance he is on, no man wishes to bare. What oaths he takes, he takes for the security of his soul against the evils whom he battles.

The life of the Lucienist is hard-fought and hard-won. There are not many times for joyous celebration, acts of kindness, or general intimacy. There is only penance for the actions undertaken against the evil and impure.
