So if I wanted to change my MC name and totally forgot that it might mess up the whole character situation, would there be any way of recovering it?

The only thing changing your name changes in game is if you have any chests locked by you or chests that you have been added to, you would have to remove the lock on the chests and readd yourself or get readded to the chests you were added to.

Mc name does not affect your character in anyway.
