History

The Orcs of dah Beeg Rukz are unusual Orcs to say the least. Hailing from the Mountains of Vailor having gotten lost following the exodus from Athera the Ruk Orcs spent a great deal of time in isolation amongst the massive peaks of Vailor becoming quite intimate with the stone. These lost orcs remained scattered in the wild mountains scraping out a living for themselves among the cold peaks until they were banded together by Grar. Grar went from solitary orc to orc challenging each to a competition of their choice. Having won the loyalty of his fellows the small band united by the stones that surrounded them dwelt together for some time. Then the day came when a great horned Orc peaked the crest of their small mountain hamlet. The Horned Orc named Alibaba spoke of the great Iron Ugz that had formed under Kahn’Braduk. The Orcs of Ruk ventured forth glad to be reunited with their brethren of the war nation.

The Ruks

Due to their isolation from the rest of the war nation and their residence in the southern mountains the orcs of Ruk developed many strange traditions and rituals. Upon their arrival to Vailor the orcs found themselves in an alien environment. Their upbringing of desert survival had not prepared them for the harsh realities of alpine life. Initially the Ruks were unable to find any sources of food, it eventually came to the point that they had become so hungry that even the rocks began to look appetizing. Having lifted rocks from the ground to eat the Ruks suddenly were confronted with numerous burrows filled with rather large rats that had used the rocks to camouflage their homes. Having satiated their hunger on the rats it became tradition to crush a stone before meals or upon meeting another Ruk in order to pay homage to the moment that saved their clan from starvation. This crushing of stone has come to symbolize strength amongst the Ruks and those who are unable to do so are not welcome amongst their ranks.

During their isolation it became particularly important for these mountain dwelling orcs to develop stone working skills as to survive on the sparsely forested mountain peaks. Ruks can often be found working on elaborate statues or stone totems in their spare times and prefer to live in caves or stone huts as opposed to the flimsy tents of their brethren. Ruks will often engage in competitions with different members of the clan attempting to create the most artful carvings or totems in an attempt to show mastery of stone.

Ruks generally frown on their more savage brethren’s actions viewing their blind greed and bloodlust as contrary to the teachings of Krug. Ruks believe that Orcs should attempt to harness their rage and use it as a weapon, regulating themselves with honour and hard work. Ruks are opposed to the taking of slaves as they believe that forcing inferior races to do the work of the Orc people weakens the Orc race and causes them to become weak and decadent.

With their close relationship to stone comes an incredibly patience, Ruks are known to hold long standing grudges having a special carved symbol in the center of the clan totem for each affront to their clan.

Ruk Spirituality

Due to the arduous conditions that the Ruks dwelt in for so long there was no room for weakness or laziness. They have come to hold Jevex the spirit of Order, Hard work and Self-Sacrifice as their patron spirit. Ruk orcs always prioritize the good of the clan above their own well being it is not uncommon for a single orc to sacrifice themselves for the good of the clan.

When a kub is born into the clan the entire clan assumes a parental role with every adult of the clan being responsible for the safety and education of the kub. Ruks protect their kubs with ruthless ferocity fighting tooth and nail to keep their offspring safe. Ruks view  kubs as gifts of Jevex indicating a reward for their hard work and self-sacrifice.

Ruk worship typically involves creating elaborate shrines and totems out of valuable stones and gems. Most Ruks can generally be seen bearing their finest work around their necks in the form of amulets. They often pay homage to Jevex after successfully completing a very arduous task.

In the center of a Ruk camp is an array of large stone totems depicting the feats of the Ruks and their homage to the spirits. Ruks will often compete fiercely over who deserves a place on the stone totems often resulting in klomps or trials of stone.

Physical Characteristics

Ruk orcs are typically grayish to light green with bright flashy colours being almost non existent amongst them. The defining features of Ruks are their peculiar jaws. Ruks have incredibly strong jaws that they use for the ceremonial crushing of stone and rock. However due to the constant impact with rock and stone Ruk tusks are often chipped and worn down.

Ruks will often be seen wearing heavy pelts of white or gray to protect them from the cold and are generally averse to frivolous decorations. However it is not unheard of them to wear stone totems or talismans that they themselves have made or that others have made as tokens of respect.

Ruk Initiation Ritual: Da Triul ub dah Beeg Kold Rokz

The harsh origins of the Ruk Boyz have led to them implementing a harsh set of trials that simulate their old home in the mountains. Those who wish to join the Ruk Boyz must first find a sponsor among the Ruks that is willing to take them through Da Triul ub dah Beeg Kold Rokz. They must impress the sponsor with their strength and honour before they are even considered for entry to the Ruk Boyz.

Those who are deemed worthy are taken to nearby mountains and told to climb to the highest peak (This should be done in rp and the sponsor should judge the applicant based on the quality of their climbing emotes). If the Orc manages to scale the peak then they are to be buried in a snow bank for an entire day given nothing but a small breathing hole. If the Orc manages to survive or doesn’t quit then they are deemed worthy of the final task. The sponsor will tell the applicant that they are too track down a mountain beast (usually a large mountain goat, a dire mountain lion or on occasion a giant badger). The applicant must then tame this beast as it will serve as his eternal friend and mount.

Upon completion of these three trials the applicant is deemed worthy to join the Ruk Boyz and gains the right to call themselves a Ruk. At that point they officially become a Brother of the Ruk Boyz

Joining the Ruks

Unfortunately we do not plan on doing OOC recruitment as the members of this clan hope to focus on Orcish rp. We can often be found engaging in hunts, stone carving rp or other cultural activities described above. However if you wish to join approach a member of the Ruks in roleplay and attempt to impress them with your strength or your knowledge of honour. If you’re lucky you may be asked to take the Trial.
