The King's Gambit: A Challenge to the Tilurir'indor

Kelthran cleared his throat, taking a stand in the new city. His gaze was passive, his visage cool and kind. The winds of the harbor town swept through the crowd, the hairs of the audience passively standing on end as his voice rang out - echoing between the cluster of buildings.

"Our Tilurir'indor has failed us."

He spoke calmly, his eyes scanning over the cluster of Elves before him.

"In our boom of activity, and the withdrawal of Dark Magi from our council, some of our members have become complacent and lazy. They march with us no longer to battle in an effort to achieve peace with our Orenian allies, they do not foster activity and kinship in their fellow Elves, and - in this case - they have done nothing to strengthen our library, our research, or our ties to the arcane. They have neglected to accomplish the very baseline definition of their job, bookkeeping of any kind, and through that have damned their brothers and sisters to continued ignorance. The maehr'sae hiylun'ehya suffers at the hands of Elves who run for positions to which they are unsuited, and we see that clearly today. This day, the 8th of The Amber Cold, 1538, I challenge our Tilurir'indor on the basis of incompetence and apathy in regards to his position."

Kelthran reached upwards, pulling his cloak tightly about him. The chill in the air turned his breaths to faint white mist as it seeped from his nostrils and off of his tongue.

"Let it be known that Riondil Seni is not at fault for his failure. The Tilurir'indor is a difficult position to maintain, and is likely one he was not entirely prepared for - especially with the sudden turmoil of our peoples' movement to Fi'ceru; but know that where our former Tilurir'mali has failed us, I will succeed. I will travel to the Caliphate, and work with their scholars to secure books for our people. I will, as Adeptus Major of The Order of Magi; return the spark of magic to our people. I will do this not in a meaningless way as we have seen in the past, but with focus and direction - harnessing The Void's great untapped knowledge and power to better both our city's defenses and sciences, as opposed to the meaningless floating lights and parlor tricks as we have seen in reigns before mine. As the architect of the Anthosian tomb and, in part, Tahn'siol; I will aid our Tilurir'leyun and Maheral in the construction of a library that we can once more be proud to call our own.

He sighed, taking a deep breath and beginning once more with a much lower, more honest tone.

"This may seem like a great deal to promise, perhaps even far fetched; but it should not. Our people are some of the finest architects and brightest minds on the continent of Vailor, and we have accomplished much more than this in times past. We need only unify once more as a people, and set ourselves onto the path to progress and health."

After the crowd had finished their applause, he spoke one final time to his brothers and sisters that night.

"Know that I am not an unreasonable man, and should I win the coming election - I shall forfeit my current position of Tilurir'lliran. A position in which I have excelled; bringing us to war in favor of our allies, uniting our people in fantastic events, and showing the continent - through example - both our strength of character and activity."

Elvrohir sits in his workshop, re-stringing a bow, the cord having snapped during a confrontation with bandits, nearly resulting in his own decapitation. A bored looking Haler enters, silently handing him a copy of the speech. Elvrohir sets aside his project and peruses the pages, grunting as he comes across the words "..progress and health."

"She speaks of health, yet will allow the Void's corruption to worm its bloated carcass into her city's every nook and cranny? Are the Mali'aheral people not thin enough as it is? She thi~"

"He, sir."

"~nks that, er what?"

"The speaker sir. He is a male."

"Kelthran is a male?"

"Mhm."

"Ah...well, my point still stands. The Void he looks to for salvation will be the 'Aheral downfall, mark my words."

"Whatever you say sir."
