On Orcs: Questions for the Community

As some of you may have noticed, over the past couple of weeks the Orcs have moved toward a far more roleplay centered focus, shifting away from raiding with our attacks being less frequent (at least those organized by the leadership, I can't speak for every Orc). Now, we've done a lot of discussion amongst our leadership and also consulted our playerbase. The feedback we've been able to get from our playerbase has been incredibly positive and helpful, and with that in mind we'd like to open up feedback from the rest of the community? I have set some specific questions for you guys to answer, however these are not meant to limit your responses to this thread.

Please be critical (though be kind in your critique, no need to bash our player base since we're actively trying to improve), give suggestions, and also tell us you're opinion about Orcs/impressions that you've made while on the server.

Questions for YOU:
- Would it be more interesting if Orcs were more reclusive, making it a sort of event to see one every once and awhile rather than constant raiding/travels from Orc lands?

- What kind of events would outsiders like to see the Orcs do that the rest of the server may participate in?

- In what way can Orcs make interaction with other races more interesting?

Remember, you are not restricted to the above questions. Those are just some specific topics that I'd like to have addressed for my own personal improvement/roleplay. Thank you, and I encourage discussion on Orcs in this thread. Thank you!

During Asulon, being an Orc and then experiencing them from the outside from pretty fun. You'd go to a place and either be reviled as a beast or loved for looking funny. Now it's just "oh another orc sprint jumping around felsen."

Start being tougher on the people who meme around. I'm gonna sound a bit like a whiny *****, but orcs jumping around town and being a general nuisance is really ruining my immersion and roleplay experience.

Now, I've been involved with the orc community so I know you guys aren't just hardcore memesters, heck I've seen some really good shaman RP and the 'might is right' mindset is an interesting part of orcish society. If you could focus more on being the wise warrior culture rather than "ug blug" that would make it much easier to both respect and enjoy RP with orcs.

Lub latz lutz, just please be more serious. Not you though Leo, you keep it up with those dank memes as the kids call it.

EDIT: I would also like to note that I have on many occassions wanted to return to Orc RP, but have changed my mind after seeing the lack of any actual RP besides from "Lets go to some city and mess with the edgies".

I'd like a more shamanistic culture for the orcs, more worshipping the anscestors and spirits and less raiding (As they've been doing) that is one of the reasons why I got kinda bored playing my orcu because he worshipped his ascestors and the spirits but all that I really experienced was combat and pvp excluding the rare meeting with a shaman especially when some orc players didn't even know what the spirits were yet were raiding and not treated like whitewash or taught otherwise. Though, for outsiders again more shamanistic RP would be cool, not necessarily sacrifices of players but perhaps hunts for beasts in other lands for sacrifice. Too sum it up, more honor less murder.

Thank you, and I would be very interested in knowing who those Orcs are. Since I've returned, I have only been in Felsen during the battles, so I don't really know much about what goes on in those areas. If I had names of those Orcs though, I can certainly put out some discipline OOCly.

As for the lack of RP, we're definitely concentrating on bringing that back. Check out the subforum, best post to read right now on the entire forum in my opinion is the Shadows of the Past one, if you're into our culture in the slightest.

Thank you, and yes that shift back toward more connection to the spirits/ancestors is happening right now. It's a major part of our effort to bring back quality Orcish RP, something that's been lacking as of late.

Honestly Orcs are already a bit reclusive I'm pretty sure most people have very little information on Orcs to begin with other than that they are good at fighting and that they like fighting.

- What kind of events would outsiders like to see the Orcs do that the rest of the server may participate in?
While an odd idea it would be rather cool if Orcs did some kind of event to show their culture because I'm sure there is something there not just all murder/killing/hunting Like while I understand there isn't really a artist class of orcs I'm sure over time some little bits of Orcish poetry or the like as been made even if it's far between.

- In what way can Orcs make interaction with other races more interesting?

Really I think the two main issues I have when it comes to Rping with orcs is how likely you can be to die and secondly any Rp with orcs is made rather tricky with the fact almost all orcs speak Blah. Blah is such a tricky language and often times whole sentaces will just go over peoples heads. I feel like this really turns people away from Rping with Orcs as you aren't there to play "Guess that phrase" you want to rp.

Side note, I really would love to see the orcs develop a bit more as a race/culture as it seems they're pretty unchanged from how they were in Aegis. Now I could be really wrong by saying this as I've never personally played a Orc but at least from my view orcs as a people seemed to have changed very little. Best of luck with all this.

The funny thing is, I always envisioned the Dwarves doing this more than anyone due to how, supposedly, closed off we were supposed to be.

Though to help here, I would say, go all out. Try and make yourselves as closed off as possible and do as many events as you can. This can literally be your chance to not have any straggles randomly wander in and disrupt your ****. I hated that for Dwarven events. Stockpile as much RP as you can for the love of god.

The one thing out of anything I would want to see out of orc RP are some major historic event ****. Like, stuff that would matter so much to the Orcish population that it would be told by new and old players alike. In the past from what I've seen, these events were almost non-existent, save for a few major leaders dying or major baddie or something. I want to see clans come together into one, break apart so majorly that the whole nation is just made up of individuals instead of a government, crazy shamans, cannibal hordes, strange monstrous hybrids, the land literally splitting apart or growing into something beautiful because of your guys' action, those kinds of things that could turn into such major events that people even outside the Orcs could feel it.

I do love the Dwarves, but dear god the Orcs are by far my favorite race on this server. Aside from the Dwarves, they literally have the most potential for greatness compared to the stale and generic humans and elves.

Orcs have some of if not the most interesting in-depth lore and culture on the server if actually looked into, the only issue is that often many newer orcs don't see this, and focus more on the pvp, raiding/banditing aspect more common now which has led to orcs being stereotyped and avoided by much of the playerbase.

There's no poetry to my knowledge besides battle chants, but there's a fair deal of orcish literature, and story telling's supposed to be a huge part of the culture. If you're interested, most libraries have an Orcish literature section with some good stuff. The problem is, I don't think most players ever bother looking for literature, unless they're looking for books on magic in hopes of self-teaching or something. I could be wrong, but that's been my assessment of the general population's relation to the literature in the server's libraries. Anyways, yeah. It's no secret that orcs need to fix an issue pertaining to personal lives. A big problem is that orcs tend not to have lives outside of battle, and tend to stand there drooling or sprint-jump around if there's not a battle or a hunt going on. It's not supposed to be that way. It wasn't always this way, but somewhere along the line many orc players seem to have forgotten how to rp personalities and and everyday lives in their orcs.

God yes, this. Nearly all orcs seem the same to me so it gets rather mundane and repetetive.

Wun had the greatest personality out of all the Orcs in Athera.

I'd also like to pose a question to those that have never decided to RP an Orc.

Why not, and what would bring you to try?

Considering Wun is an enormous mentally retarded giant that's saying something.

And has a form of Vietnamese PTSD. Such character. More orcs/goblins/ologs need something that makes them unique other than, "I'm from this clan!" or "Minas or die Halfling parent scum!".
