Letter to the Gentiles

Lucien: II

Greetings unto you from the land of Visiga. From the estate of Holofernes, in Luciensport, I write. I pray that you have had good fortunes bestowed to you, your folk, and your kin. I am gladdened by the peace made between those gentiles of Sutica and the rise of the noble Nafis to a kingly crown. Good news this is to my ear. With my ink, I shall be expelling good news in return for these well-received omens.

The great conflict rages across the land. In response to the nefarious deeds of the Urguanites, the pious Holy Orenian Empire, the realms of Malin, and the Church of God march steadfast in crusade against the pretender-empire of Rhewen and the false-pantheon of Hogarth. While I have urged all faithful to go forth and battle this heathenry, God is a merciful deity and it has always been the will of He that his children be unified in peace. But peace comes at cost, as do all things.

I understand that many of you face a dire choice. Your pen wavers on its parchment, will you condemn yourselves to a long, doomed battle against the Orenians? Will you lay down your sword, your shield and opt out of this conflict, taking your place in neutrality alongside the Suticans? Perhaps, some of you desire something greater. To raise the banner of John, Emperor of Man, Protector of Elf, and a Crusader of God, above your keeps, in your homes, and swear fealty under his realm. The choice may seem obvious to some. I am aware that not all gentiles follow the true Lord, God, and his Church. They are not baptized in the Canon or attend His masses. But, as Saint Daniel ‘the Good’ had, I will stress peace over zealotry. You of the Orvarian Pantheon, of the Aspects and even of the Brathmordakin, are all still children of God, descended from his four sons. Lay down your blades, swear under the Empire or choose peace. But, do not condemn yourselves into eternal punishment, to the Void. Do not condemn yourselves to fight alongside a pretender, to fight until your nation is nothing but ash. I, on this day, do decree that all non-Canonist gentiles, under the Holy Orenian Empire or as its allies, shall not come under violent persecution. Instead missionaries shall journey  into their lands, provide food and relief from war, and spread Good Will amongst all of The Lord, God’s children.

Unum Deum, Unum Populum, Unam Mundi

Lucien III, Vicar of GOD

Nafis' brow rises upon reading the open letter. Grabbing the reins of his horse, he departs from Ard Ghorrock on his way to find the High Pontiff.

"Peace in our time," mutters a fattened Bertrand, nodding to himself at the dinner table.
