Time To Say Goodbye

((Lyrics Actually Fit Quite Well))

Were we born to fight and die?

Sacrificed for one huge lie?

Are we heroes keeping peace?

Or are we weapons pointed at the enemy so someone else can claim a victory?

Even the roar of the powerful waves crashing upon the stone foundation couldn’t drown out the fury of hammers striking against stone, steel, and wood that now rang throughout the once peaceful city.

The past years felt like a blur and the only memories that stood out were the clashing of swords, the shouting of men, the cries of the wounded, the silence of the dead; but why?

This had never been the way for the Sutican people, a community simply looking to live their lives in peace and prosperity. And this was a life they were promised by many. However, with each promise came twice as many lies.

And eventually, a line was crossed for all of Sutica where enough was enough.

The brightly colored sails of the recently crafted ships towered in the distance, becoming more visible as each day passed. The structures that were once shops and homes, now piles of rubble that were salvaged for supplies and loaded onto the ships.

“Sutica was meant to be a safe haven from the hatred and spite,” the woman spoke as she stood in the center of the arena, surrounded by the citizens of the city. “free from the worries of war and battle. But that life, a life promised to us over and over and over by people we trusted….” She emphasizes each promise, each betrayal with a smack of a first into a gloved hand. “is fleeting in this land. Our enemies are gathering, /friends/ have only proven to be enemies with false smiles and venomous tongues….this storm is growing. And no matter what we have done to remain here in peace, we cannot wait with lives at stake to be taken for granted again by people that think we are not ready and wish to rip this life from us.”

She’d pause to let these thoughts sink into her people, many having been forced to fight in a war they wanted no part of, many having been lied to and used by over arching failed governments, and many now being attacked in the city’s streets and bridges just by being close to a warzone.

“It’s time to say goodbye…..goodbye to the innocence of youth, goodbye to the naive thoughts that we can rely on others to give us our peace, and goodbye to the solitude that we thought we had finally found here in these lands. It’s time we-”

A crash would be heard as a poorly aimed trebuchet payload from the nearby warzone strikes their walls and bridge instead of the giant fortress across the way. A “Sorry!” can be heard echoing in the distance as Lilyana, Princess of Sutica rubs her face slowly with the palm of her hand.

Silence would echo throughout the arena as all eyes focused on the arena’s center where Lilyana and her loyal steward, Shynys, stood. “That’s it!” The normally quiet steward would shout as his books and papers danced in the sky above as he threw his hands into the air, “That’s it! I’m done! Everyone get on the damn boat, we are leaving!”

Lilyana would nod at his outburst as he panted and wheezed, his spectacles all disheveled.

“Yes, it’s time to say goodbye indeed.”

Dlun looks upon the message, his bulky nose twitching as he is finished. The many `o curious people and creatures that had gathered around him would look at him with a curious gaze.

Hadrien nods, packing his more important valuables, "So be i'. I've had plenty o' change, betrayal, and leaving behind, it's simply become a part o' life fer meh. Another obstacle to be overcome, so be it." Proceeds to tighten his pack to his shoulders and simply wait for the sea voyage to begin.
