Well... that's the point - why would anyone do that? People who want to do thievery rp will do that.

You're missing the point that's being made- lockpicking, as it was, meant that people were more likely to break into a place in one attempt. It was logical and made sense when it came to taking up the GM's time when handling the modreq. But now, these changes will more than likely lead to more modreqs being made around smashing locks- which also leads to multiple attempts over multiple days.

 

We've gone from something that takes one hour on average, to something that will be repeated over days.

I like the idea but I think it'd just be simpler and prove to make a bit more rp if it was a craftable item under tinkering or something, and was also made illegal in every nation to own/make, making it so that if some random character that has no real reason to use lockpicks rply may be a bit less inclined to buy/make/own them.

Burglary is dying more and more... Fact is that if someone locks all their chests in their home, the chance of you getting ANYTHING. is so minor it's not normal anymore. And now that stuff costs 50 Minas?!

May I ask.... why the thieves guild? What gives them all purpose over lockpicks? What about making it an addition in the charter system (Like mines) to pay for a cart of lockpicks.

 

Not everyone uses lockpicks for villainous activities. I remember seeing leaders of towns using them to get into other houses in their city due to eviction- besides relying on a GM to OOC'ly just remove all locks without an RP backing.

 

Many other examples. I agree with either making it a crafting recipie or have a purchasable cart of lockpicks. Don't give them to something branded as "thieves guild" just magically as it makes it a special snowflake group to attend to aquire such a things.

Another example would be, if you had magic- i'll say telekinesis. You attempt to break the lock with magic, you'll use a lockpick OOC'ly to enter... So now you're forcing a MAGE to find one area where they sell lockpicks to use OOC'ly to enter somewhere in RP?
