~An Update to Lockpicking~

Hello denizens of LotC!

Today history shall be made, as I'm sure most of you will be delighted to hear that changes within the lockpicking system are happening. The recent "Your View" that I had posted had given a mass of feedback that was helpful to both myself and the rest of the GM team. This feedback has been noted, and was considered throughout the vigorous process of changing lockpicking.

Many polls and discussions have been created, regarding your own opinion and the staff's opinion on the matter. We as a team have concluded the changes to hopefully change the way lockpicking works within roleplay. All together, two changes are being introduced to lockpicking, and as small as they may be we feel they will have a large impact upon lockpicking.

The first change is;

Lockpicks are no longer sold at the docks.

Lockpicks were being sold at the docks, and contained little to no roleplay validity. Why were they being sold at the docks I hear you say? I don't know!

Lockpicks will instead now be sold at a Thieves Guild, located in a small crevice of Vailor. It is your job to find it, and once you do you shall be able to join in all of the thievery festivities!

The second change is;

The price of lockpicks has increased.

Yes! The price of lockpicks has indeed increased, they were being sold at 15 mina each, however now they have been increased to 50 mina each. So make sure that when you find the Thieves Guild, you have your 50 mina on your persona, or else you won't be able to buy any! It's a large increase, however we as the GM team do feel that it will create a large impact upon how the current lockpicking system is used.

Lockpicking is an extremely volatile system. The actual question of whether it creates rp is raised, and lockpicking sometimes tends to create more problems than good. However that being said, you all have different opinions to how lockpicking should be handled; some want lockpicking chests to become a thing, some don't. It's something that is very hard to create a balance in, and changes to make balance within the system may never fully come.

These changes that have been put forward are small - yes they are small. However it's taking lockpicking a step in the right direction. We aren't able to improve everything about lockpicking at once. We have to take it in small steps, to see where more room for improvement could be made that won't upset everyone.

That's all the new changes to lockpicking, two very small changes however changes nonetheless.

Happy Lockpicking!

If you have any issues/questions about these new changes, feel free to pm me.

Nothing to do with lockpicking!

Maybe name it something else, since the Thieves Guild was a player thing in the past and it'd be kinda confusing for new players if they ever want to know about the player Thieves Guild

It doesn't have an offical name, it's just a place where you may buy lockpicks - however we're calling it a Thieves Guild as a coined term.

 Why not just make a very expensive blacksmithing recipe? I mean, it can be coded in 5 mins, and doesn't require you knowing the exact place in a map that is 6000x6000 blocks big to buy them. Just make them cost something like 4 Black Ferrum ingots and done. I can have it coded in 5 mins if you want it that way.

This is good start, but I still think rules regarding other topics still need to be refined. I like what Wrynn has done here, taken the opinion of players and adjusted the rules accordingly.  Lock picking / breaking is good but am I able to smash a window with a high enough roll, things like this I think need to be considered. To make this idea better, if a player was to smash a window the new chat system would aid this as a shout emote would occur therefore alerting guards. This would make thief rp more fun as well as more complex.

The "Guild" system that has been implemented hopes to increase the rp validity of lockpicking itself, and bring proper rp to a system that was otherwise mostly OOC. Once the hideout has been found by players, we wish for it's location to spread by word of mouth.

You do realize it will simply be spread OOCly? Almost no one will find it through valid RP means.

Why not tinker recipe? It's a very fine piece to make.

Also, as for roleplay, your character can be caught producing them and put under arrest.

Of course we have the fact that, that will happen. However who is going to walk to a guild in the middle of nowhere to pay 50 minas for a lockpick if they're just going to use one to scrounge for items in someone else's home?

What do you mean 'scrounge for items'? It's impossible to get generic items using lockpicks as it's specified that you can't take generic items from a chest using lockpicking. If you mean for rp items... Sorry, but that's unrealistic, not because you can't take every kind of item with lockpicking, but the fact that there is literally a lack of rp items in the server in general, most of them are pointless to even go out of your way to find and steal, let alone no one goes around saying "I have an rp item locked in a chest in my house."
