Repairing

Repairing is an addition to LOTC which allows for the restoration of durability of most items with durability.

How to: To repair, simply right click an iron block with the item you want to repair.

Necessities: To repair, you need an item in your inventory to repair with. If you don't know what item to use to repair, simply try to repair it and it'll tell you.

Amount repaired: The amount repaired is based on the a few aspects:

  • Skill level of the profession to repair it. Wood items need woodworking, metal items blacksmithing, stone items stonemasonry, and fishing rod items fishing. The higher the level, the more you repair.
  • The item you're repairing. If the item takes more resources to make, it gains less durability per repair. This includes weapons (Dark Ferrum swords gain less durability than normal iron swords).
  • The amount of times the item has been repaired. Each time you repair the same item, you will gain a bit less durability than before. When you're repairing it for the 10th time, you'll be gaining 50% as much durability, and from 16th repair and up, you'll only be gaining 20% of the amount of the first durability.
  • The enchants that the item has. The more enchants it has, the least it will gain in durability, and there's a chance to loose the enchant. This is countered by your enchanting level, if you have a good enchanting level, you will repair as if the enchants weren't there, and you will have less chances of losing the enchants.

Pros:

  • Instantaneous. Unlike crafting something, repairing is done when you right click.
  • Costs less than making a new item if you're on your first repairs and are a big level.
  • You keep that awesome Special item you got from that event.
  • You get a bit of experience points.

Cons:

  • Repairing too much and it starts getting expensive.
  • You have a chance to lose enchantments, expecially if you don't have enchanting skill.

I really don't like the idea of scaling repair costs, it sounds like a chore, and I don't think it would normally get that hard to repair an item, I think it should be scaled down, and the repair cost should cap at around 50%

Have you fixed the bug where if you repair an item up to full durability you get no experience in the respective skill?

It scales but based on the max you can repair. Example, if you are aengelic blacksmith, you can repair an iron sword in 1 single repair. After 10 repairs of that same iron sword, you'll need 2 repairs to repair it all.

Yes. You just gain less exp, the exp is based on the amount you repair.

I have never actually had any experience given to me while repairing towards blacksmithing.

This is now, it's been updated.

Okay so, before this update I was able to repair unenchanted diamond hoes to full durability with one diamond. Now, I get a measly 500 durability on the firs repair. My blacksmithing level is legendary. Is this supposed to happen? I barely got less than 30% durrability from a single diamond, which will keep decaying with each successive repair, I'm better off crafting a whole new hoe instead of wasting a fortune repairing one now. Is this the intended effect of this update? Because if so, repairing has been absolutely destroyed.

From what I know, diamonds are a lot harder to repair, gaining 3 times less % durability than iron, but that was not my choise. (I should add that in). Before, enchanting skill was broken and allowed for super repairs, that's been fixed now, which means most repairs are now far lower (if you have any enchanting skill).

Again, the hoes are unenchanted and even then, my enchanting skill is aengulic. The numbers have just been tweaked to such laughably low values that repairing is just not a thing anymore.

Your enchanting skill being aengelic is what made your repairs be amazing before (enchanting should have not made your repairs better, it was a bug). Though I'll try to up them a bit.

Honestly preferred it more the way it was before, you turned a benefit into something that's a chore, now I have to spend like 30 Ingots or diamonds to repair my named items :( Please revert the changes, speaking as an Aenguelic Blacksmith, and also i'm kind of upset, because literally half the updates are frustrating beyond belief.

Repairing a diamond tool for 57 Durability per diamond is lame.  *sad face*

It's nice when the server updates to 1.9.4 and your experience boost stuff gets mending on it :3

Wonder if that glyph will be added for enchanting.

You shouldn't be able to get experience, so that enchant might be useless.

Onto the diamond stuff, I've made a few changes (not implemented yet) to allow diamond repairs to actually be worth it at the start. On the other hand, one of the points of the change is to not make repairing super superior than making new things. Repairing should be useful in many situations, but just repairing everything over and over again and keep it better than making new stuff? That isn't really the purpose. If you have something good, and you want to keep it and use it, first you will actually spell less with repairing than to make a new sword. In many cases this will continue to be the case for a few times. But there will be a time where making a new item is cheaper than repairing the old.
