ELI5 - the human situation

I'm very interested in playing a character in one of the human kingdoms or factions as a jumping-off point into role-play because it all seems like a hell of a good time - that being said, I'm still trying to identify which niche I fit into. I believe that comprehending the state of community politics is (understandably) pretty important to that.

That acknowledged, human politics seem labyrinthine to the uninitiated (me) - even after having delved into server lore, nation background posts, guild threads, public diplomacy, and political dialogue posts, I’m still having difficulty identifying the who’s who and what’s what (probably because of all of these titles, houses, lords, etc).

Slew of questions -

What are all of these different human nations/factions? Who’s fighting who and why? How’d it end up like that? What’re the key characters/users driving the conflict?

tl;dr ELI5 - what’s the deal with the humans right now, and who’s who?

Thanks m8y - it really helps out.

So you have Oren, were the imperials. Uphold law, knights, castles etc. Then there are the rebels. They just like killing imperials and want the empire to die and stuff.

I can't really help as I'm just as lost as you are, but it's always cool seeing a (presumably) new player going the extra mile. Good luck!

Join Courland, or the Dreadlands, because... Why not? Besides, you're asking for advise and I'm giving it, not like I play on any of the sides. I quite enjoy my Druid role-play. If I was to choose personally, I'd go Avar perhaps, something with a hint of Narthok.

AYYYYYYYYYYY

Alright let me give you the least biased version of events that I can. The current human conflict is the result of several rebellions taking place within the human empire. Several large sub factions (noble houses or groups of noble factions) broke off recently for various reasons (insert freedom memes and the like). The earliest of these factions was Avar under House Ruric, which launched a big rebellion as they were fairly strong at the time. However that rebellion was suppressed fairly easily. Following this a civl war broke out in the North of the Empire between two large sub cultures of humanity. Namely the people of Courland and the Raevir Coalition. The Courlanders being made up of the various nobles in the duchy of Courland under House Staunton. Whilst the Coalition was made up of the various Raevir (read russian) factions. The Coalition was made up of the Hetmanate of Kraija and the Duchy of Carnatia. The Courlanders lost several battles and it looked like they were going to lose the war. However in the last battle of the northern civil war both sides called in allies. Courlanders called in troops from the Bandit Princedom of the Dreadlands whilst the Coalition called in the personal guard of the Emperor and other crown troops to support them in the final battle. Both sides contest who is actually in the wrong here so it isn't really worth delving into the specifics of this particular battle. But the Courlanders and their allies defeated the coalition. Because the Emperor sent crown troops to assist the Coalition the Courlanders interpreted this as the Emperor endorsing their annihilation and proceded to raise their banners in opposition to the Empire along with the Dreadlanders and what remained of the Ruric rebels. They were soon followed by the Kraijians. Soon after this civil war broke out in the southern human kingdom of Vandoria. Crown authority collapsed as the relatively weak and secluded king surrendered his independence to the Emperor of Oren. Vandoria went through a series of leaders and ended up with one that wasn't supported by the local lords. They rose up in rebellion against him, supporting the claim of a young farfolk youth that claimed relation to the dynasty that founded the Kingdom of Vandoria before it came into Horen hands. (both Oren and Vandoria were controlled by Vandorian monarchs at the time and the Horenian hegemony was quite affluent at this point. Following this through a series of rather confusing ooc and rp events the Stauntons lost their capital without a fight and were forced to move to elsewhere (this is a highly contended topic atm and has generated a good deal of salt). As a result of losing their land the Staunton's northern campaign towards the imperial capitol was cancelled. Today the forces of the 'Axis' (aka the alliance of human nobles, Elven rebels and anti empire factions) fought a field battle so that the rebels of Vandoria could siege the Loyalist held keep of Ard Ghorrok (one of the strongest fortresses in Vandoria). This battle was extremely laggy however the Axis faction was declared victorious. Latter today the Imperial holding of Avar declared its departure from the Empire and joined the Axis in its movement against the Empire.

@Grixxer@Sky

Its confusing as **** and only covers the last 4 or so weeks but that's pretty much the jist of recent events. Hopefully that helps, if you have any further questions you can contact me over skype.

Here is a short version of what is above. There are two major factions Oren and the Axis. Courland basically said they didn't like the Empire anymore and now they want to destroy them.Courland (Axis, lead by King Aleksander Staunton ((Vegetarianism)) ) and Oren (lead by King John I Frederick ((I couldn't find his player name)) ). This is a non-biased assessment of the war going on and I am sorry if it seems biased, I think that the rebellion is going to crush Oren, just because they have so many more troops (like 3 to 1 odds).

Yeah, I have played in the Wood Elf playerbase since day one, so I cant say much about High Elves and Dark Elves. I may be a bit biased saying this, but Mali'ame and Mali'ker, Halflings, and Kha are the only races on LOTC whose playerbases dont have a boner for war and powerhungyness. This is why I will never play a human, as the leaders of BOTH sides spend far too much time trying to conquer a video game land. If your up for watered down Game of Thrones where everyone thinks they are a political genius, go human. I'll chill in my forest grinding out my one shot bows and yelling at non-elves to stay out of my city.

You have Oren, the Empire lead by an autocratic dictator founded on bullying and subjigating weaker races. The human houses leading it are Kovachevs, Horens and Barbanovs.

You have the rebels, seeking to end the Empire and bring about freedom.

The rebels are made up of several factions, Stauntons, Rurics and the Carrions are the human houses who are involved l.

Gotta do what you've gotta do.

Sounds like a worthy cause. god bless the rebellion, etc.

Are there major cultural differences between the different rebellious houses? It looks as if every house has its own motif, customs, etc. that they're rooted in.
