shimmeringbliss 268 Share Posted July 17, 2016 Remove auctions! Other cities economy dies so sadly when the cloud temple market is the main source of where the minas flow :( You can give the 'location' of these stalls to certain nations! So the dwarves can host the 'iron stall', the elves the 'logs stall', it gives it a better semblance of supposed economy and power!

There's a lot of L-OOC and people afking there for no reason. Also, no, I don't care about Friendship Is Magic™ RP but it's not representative of the server. If anything it's a really depressing outcome of the fact that the server is seen to be so ******* bloodthirsty that people feel like they can't RP outside the safety of the temple (or are too lazy to, I don't know). I just wish people would go out and make the world more alive rather than sitting around idly at the temple. I like peaceful RP but at the temple it's just plain banality that leads to nothing; it's not dynamic, it's stagnant and boring. If you need a OOC shield to make your RP possible maybe you need to reconsider your choices, your character or put more effort into what you're doing. Will violence and man hunts be representative to the server then? I mean that's what a lot of people seem to wanna fight for, the ability to do villainous acts anywhere. It's very detrimental to many players to have the docks not a safe zone. There is a reason why the spawn protection came to be in the first place if you have forgotten about Asulon, people would go and pick up slaves, robbery, killings..it was not fun. Until people are less bloodthirsty as you mention a safe spawn is ideal for many players and it has to be respected. Nations have no right what so ever to get RP and people will come to the nation if it's attractive but laws, regulations and many other things such as OOC issues makes that not possible for some players. Is this an issue to cater to as many people as possible? You might not feel the RP is not dynamic, stagnant and boring but others might not but that is your interpretation of it and with no doubt the people who actually does RP (Which by the way is a minor number compared to the rest) do not feel it's those three things. They are perfectly happy with what they got and that should be respected. We are all with our personal preferences and to force people away from their RP is just wrong since it's no ones privilege to say they should get off their butt and RP elsewhere. There's no where else to "just RP" now days since the days of Alras basically. Everything is laws and guards and you can't be "edgy" or you get thrown out. RP hubs often get attacked by people who simply feel that "omg screw those edgy people lets raid them" so..yeah...that's that.

The auctions at the docks are good because they are available for everyone. I mean to be realistic here, wood elves have their gates shut down most of the time, Oren has gate duty, Orcs don't use minas most times, etc etc. The minas doesn't stay at the docks and doesn't affect city economy, make the city attractive and with lots of people and they might consider trading there. Wrong, it was done by monks back in Asluon with Shiftnative because there were so much raids and slavery at the temple at the time. -I was there. For every Halfling that joins the server and is prompted to stay the Cloud Temple/spawn and RP there, is another Halfling that isn't joining the Halfling community. For every Human, Dark Elf, all races/cultural groups, etc. Then comes the question of... How important is nation/racial RP? Is it a bad thing that these players are deciding not to go to their designated racial community? What does that mean for the racial group itself? That's another discussion to be had. People will RP where they want to RP and should be allowed to do that. No one is entitled to receive RP by having forced players go to them. Racial/nation RP needs to be less focused on and people allowed to do what THEY WANT with THEIR TIME on LotC.

jamesb 218 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Here are my two, ahem, many cents. Structure Cloud Temple should be compact and aesthetic. It should serve as a visually pleasing starting-point, but also one that is too small to house large gatherings of role-play. I suggest employing the use of invisible blocks, so that the scenery may remain tasteful and the size small. The only reason CT is currently a place for players to idle and scamper about aimlessly is due to the conveniently placed fast travels nearby. Remove those, or place them elsewhere, and suddenly CT is what it always was; quiet and tranquil. The aforementioned changes are due to the fact that I don't want to eliminate role-play in CT altogether, only ensure it never becomes the RP hub it is now. Partially because of the new players... New Players There exists a variety of new players, whether they be naive and inexperienced, past role-players or somewhere in-between. However, all of them are green when it comes to LotC, and our vast Realm can be... well, daunting. Everyone should be able to access Cloud Temple to interact with the new players, engage in some role-play, and help them ease into the server -- specifically AT. In my opinion, the best place for new players to spawn into would be what I've already described. A small, pretty build, with light amounts of role-play, and an easily accessible passage into the rest of the world. Excessive OOC I do believe an excessive amount of OOC in Cloud Temple is an issue, but that's something that has to be addressed everywhere. Although it may be particularly notable in CT, an abundance of OOC is present throughout Vailor -- unfortunately. That, however, can't simply be extinguished with the passing of a "new rule," or something of the like. Not only GMs, but players too, must emphasize the use of PMs as opposed to LOOC. And quite frankly, most OOC being used is completely unnecessary, and what isn't could be effortlessly moved to PMs. If we truly wish to minimize the use of OOC in RP settings, the server has to consciously make that effort. It won't simply go away on its own. Drawing RP from nations I don't personally see this as an issue. RP is RP, no matter where it's happening. I don't think having the main area for RP a neutral space is a legitimate problem. If anything, nations lose RP due to the dozens and dozens of other scarcely populated settlements that pop up. But that's another issue altogether. Villainy People hiding from aggressors within Cloud Temple could potentially be a problem. But the same could be achieved by running to some far corner of the map, or just logging off. If the Cloud Temple can become what I've envisioned, they won't be able to sustain role-play there for an eternity, and in any event... if someone's willing to go so far to avoid conflict, and role-play, the very thing we come to this server to participate in, that's their problem. That said, somewhere where many, many people go to role-play should not restrict violence. Such is why CT should be built in a manner that discourages substantial amounts of RP. TL;DR Make CT small and pretty. Conclusion Well, that's all from me. I'm sorry for the essay, I merely wanted to get all my thoughts out. If anyone has different views, or disagrees, I encourage you to say so. You may even be able to change my mind. Cheers! :)
Zafael 4 Share Posted July 20, 2016 I'm pretty new and, for my own experience ,if i didn't get help to start to rp on the server i wouldn't have stay event if rp is one of the thing i like the most. I'm not a english, but i still have prefere this server cause of the world he propose, but the introduction was hard. The tutorial a made don't learn me how to make a rp, it's the other player that tell me how work all the command i know and how to use them correctly. I was lucky to find kind person that take the time to teach basic thing like /s and /q correct use. Maybe it's just myself that is fearful when i try something new, but i would had like to have a "mentor" before the end of the tutorial place. Cause this "mentor" will serve many purpose to the new player, it will be it's teacher of how to rp without the fear to miss or fail, cause he will be alone with his "mentor". It's also the person that the new player will ask most of it's question and it's first link on the server. If it's a good "mentor" the player will feel important and will be more interesting to coming back again. One week with a mentor, and the new player should have learn most of the think he have to learn and feel more sure for go rp on it's own after. Probably event before, but have a person in referance that you can ask without fear to look stupide is really helpfull. It also help to keep interest on what happend. For the OOC at CT i didn't see a lot when i first come, but i see many player that were roleplaying not far from where i start. So that was nice, cause i get fastly a proof that people was here for roleplay and it's what i come for. If i didn't find people in my first 10 minute in the server, i will probably have left cause of no sign of any recent activity. So i'm not sure that making CT uninteresting to rp in will be a good idea. I think have start to the library with a welcoming room could have work too. The book in the welcoming room are all in ooc and speak about basic trick to get in rp. It's also where new player can start to intereact with they "mentor" and other new player, cause they will stick there for a little time (or not and just rush into the adventure). For new player don't stick there too long, (event if i don't think they will), a little quest could start there. Something easy but intriguing, or just a sigh write "Right click on me." and it's a teleporter that bring the player away from the welcoming room. For the draw away, i don't know about it. All i know is that is sometime uneasy to find a rp, i can walk around the different city hour without finding one. Maybe is cause i'm new and don't know a lot of other person with who i could play. I feel sometime like to be the only one on this map when the server said that 122 other player are here. I mostly find my new rp in cloud temple, cause is the place where you can fast travel from everywhere. For the safe area, i didn't event notice it was there, i was just thinking that new player get a time based invulnerability. Since i was lucky enough (or not) to don't event meet a single player on my road travel that could hurt me. I was thinking that pvp can only occure when both fighter where agree to make a fight. I didn't really experiment that side of the server for now. I think is all i have to said from my experience of new player on the game. I wish it could help to have a better introduction to the server. PS: Sorry for the grammar i'm not a english

Well, thing with that is, often people go stir up trouble, or commit crimes, and then go hide at Cloud temple, where they cannot be touched. And then having them brag about how they're uncatchable is just the worst.
