History of note

 

* The Northern Lion*

 

 

The Harwyn family can trace it's history back to humble beginnings, the first known Harwyn, Roland was born ages ago in the land of Asulon, the son of a Hansetian hunter and his wife shortly before the unification of the human realms in the First Empire.

 

Growing up in a small village in Hanseti Roland’s father would often not be home but out in the vast lands of Hanseti hunting, thus the young Roland grew up never truly knowing his father but only knowing his presence.

 

As he grew up he was for reasons unknown ousted from his family and he was forced to leave the village. He travelled west towards the borders of the Hansetian wastes, building a small cottage for himself in Queenswood where he’d hunt and live on what he could bring himself. It is believed that whilst out hunting he was attacked by a Mountain Lion, which he killed only to discover two lone cubs now alone in the world without a mother.

 

Not being able to kill the cubs he took them to his cottage and raised them, the mountain lions grew up to be tame and had no fear against humans, bringing them to the main roads unknowingly scaring travellers. Roland had no choice, he had to eventually kill the two now fully grown Mountain Lions as rich merchants and Renatian nobles had dispatched hunters to kill them.

 

After the death of the two mountain lions he abandoned his cottage and ventured south, taking up arms with a mercenary company, his former life combined with the ferociousness he showed in battle earned him the nickname “The Northern Lion” by his fellow mercenaries.

 

It is somewhere here that no further records can be found regarding the man, all that is known is that somewhere after this Roland adopted the name Harwyn and got married to an unknown woman, according to the journal of his grandson Lothar he had at least six children whereas four died before they could reach the age of five.

 

*Lothar the Scribe*

 

 

Lothar, the only son of Harrion and grandson of Roland was born on a ship bound towards the Island of Elysium.

 

At only four years old his father died in the Sack of Eyveror, all that is known about his death was that an axe cleaved through the back of his skull by an Eyverorian after he had entered a building set ablaze as the Orenian forces looted the city, one of the few Orenian casualties that day.

 

Lothars mother was unable to raise him on his own and a priest in New Arethor would often come to visit Lothar, aiding his mother and taught Lothar how to read and write. Lothar grew up documenting the stories that he had been told about his grandfather and all traditions from the old Hansetian village that his grandfather had passed on.

 

It is thanks to Lothar that the knowledge of writing and reading was passed down upon the lines and that the story of Roland could be documented. He would also draw the family emblem based upon the stories of his grandfather and pen the original words of the family “All deeds come before words” which would later be shortened to “Deeds not words” Lothar himself would marry a woman named Alisa Marsh and foster two children a son and daughter, when his wife died at the age of 36 he left to become a monk, dedicating his life to god. He died at the age of 96, outliving many of his kinsmen.

 

*Journey to Northmarch*

 

 

Upon journeying to Vailor, the Harwyns settled just north of Vanaheim, Orvar Harwyn constructed a small manor for himself and his family with close friends settling around them.

 

As the Dukes’ War started, the eldest son of Orvar, Erwyn Harwyn joined the army of the Ducal Coalition, fighting for his homestead. He travelled south with the army towards Peremont where he took part in the battle of the Forests, the battle left Erwyn maimed and he was forced to return home.

 

As the war raged on the fighting proceeded further north, Orvar grew restless and knew that Loyalist forces to the Ashford line would soon come, he had no wish for his people to die for a cause they had no affiliation to and wished not for his grandchildren to bear witness to death at such young age. They gathered their cattle, burnt down the homestead and ventured as north as north goes. Far into Northmarch where they settled by the sea and lived for many years.

Nicknamed “The Northern Lion” after allegedly raising two Mountain Lion cubs as a young man and for his brutality in battle.

Executed by hanging for the crimes of banditry and poaching.

Nicknamed The Unlucky after his unexpected death at the Sack of Eyveror, his head being cleaved by an axe.

Married to Maesha Hargrove, fostered one son.

Killed by an Eyverorian during the Sack of Eyveror

Nicknamed The Scribe for being the first Harwyn to read and write, penning many works in his days as a monk dedicated to The Creator.

Died from old age at astonishing ninety six years old

Married to Lady Annah Stafyr, fostered two sons and one daughter.

Nicknamed The Southern after his death for his prude and obnoxious behavior.

Murdered by his own son in law.

Nicknamed The Rider by his sons after his death, caused by falling of his own horse.

Nicknamed The Lesser after his death, only being able to foster one daughter, leaving no son to continue his legacy.

Nicknamed The Maimed after his right hand was dismembered in the Battle of the Forests.

Died from hypothermia after falling and breaking his leg in the forest.

Married Viktoria Melbrook until her death, afterwards married Kendra Goodwine, fostered one daughter and one son.

Nicknamed Two Wives after he married his second wife shortly after his first one’s murder, she being found in the forest murdered. Some suspect that he himself murdered her after she failed to provide him with a son.

Murdered from poison by his own daughter.

 

Marius “The Sailor” Harwyn

Died - 1549

 

Married Trish Elistar, fostered two sons and one daughter.

Nicknamed The Sailor for his love of the sea and seafaring at a young age, would later come true to his nickname after joining the crew of a merchant vessel.

Eaten alive by his fellow crew after being shipwrecked.
