Elindor 666 Share Posted August 30, 2016 This is what happens when there is no Media Team, and individuals are engaging potential new players without adequate guidance and research. I can't even begin to give advice. There is a massive expanse where the planning should have gone that I don't know how to advise improvement. Actually, yes I do. Google Analytics. You should be starting with seeing what is successful. You should then come to terms with who this community is and what is an unreasonable request versus what is easy, fun, and interesting for both the insiders and outsiders. For social media in this community the more faceless the user experience, the better.

Elindor 666 Share Posted August 31, 2016 I said I wouldn't help but here it is: Social Media Suggestions Incredibly short videos about absolutely anything that are provided on a forum thread similar to this one (but perhaps one less bombarded by negativity) to be re-uploaded at the discretion of GMs with appropriate powers. Or anyone who happens to have contributor powers on the accounts (winky face). If they are able to be uploaded to a vine account this makes sharing on twitter and facebook easier. Likewise if it can be loaded to Instagram video. Longer videos (still only a few minutes in length) could also be put up if it is deemed entertaining enough. What matters about this strategy is constant content. So you can't really be a prude and not post stuff because you don't like it. Read in the Considerations section below: Facebook is not appropriate for high volume or silly content. You're onto a thing with your request for images. Ask for images from around Lord of the Craft that aren't pretty landscapes or roleplay text. Again with a forum thread as a submission medium, get screenshots from players and spread them. It doesn't need a witty line (unless the poster wants one) or a hashtag (unless the poster wants one). Just repost the image. People sneaking in where they shouldn't be. Flying squid. A PVP conquest. If the image speaks for itself it is perfect. The use of hashtags won't happen on personal accounts. Twitter is more likely as people's identities are more protected, but the chance for success is still thin on that platform. Only use hashtags for big things that will have a life for more than 10 minutes. #Orenbestnation #Ploughed #Klomp #snelf #SoonTM. Stuff that the community would want to talk about. And ask, hope, pray that others do something first so that it isn't just the Lordofthecraft account shouting into the cosmos. However you can always try bringing up topics that people have opinions about: combat 1.8 vs 1.10 , Professions , what do you want to get out of an event , 6 reasons Druids are just the worst , you've been pronouncing 'aurum' wrong your whole life , an orc walked into a tavern what will happen next will shock you. Maybe not so clickbaity... Minecraft Social Media exists and is VERY successful. It is really hard to get our community to engage in it. The Skinning comps are AWESOME because they keep everything tied together simply by using an [LOTC] tag and a website link. Voting brings in numbers but the only way we have kept people doing it is by automating a rewards scheme. I am such an old fart I cannot fathom how the kidz are using these sites so I wouldn't want to suggest anything here as I tried to get involved but found it tiring to be active on forums and felt like there was little outcome from it. Brainstorm getting our players using Planet Minecraft and other Minecraft forums sites. Perhaps in the raffle you could add a requirement that a post has been made on the PMC page or something. This community loves a good meme. Take the meme wars outside of our forums. Post Orenball on tumblr. Harness the witty banter that already exists (and sometimes drives me nuts) and push it to social sites. Get some nation groups on board with using a particular site. All you need to do is make sure that the top of the thread links to the site. Considerations Each platform needs a particular strategy appropriate to it. Just remember what is appropriate there and you won't embarrass anyone. Facebook is the srs bizness. If someone is willing to associate themselves with the LotC Facebook account they don't want their friends seeing stupid **** on the wall. I would HIGHLY advise reviewing the Google Analytic numbers on Facebook before trying to stretch beyond using it for news updates and linking to vids on the official LotC channel. Encourage people to use @Lordofthecraft that is fine. But don't expect much from it. The only way I see twitter having much success is if there are Techs, Admins, GMs and the like on Twitter willing to engage with the main account. You have to rely on retweets and favourites to get anyone new to see posts. So you want to have some retweeters in the bank to push stuff out, and you want your content to be light and fun enough that others will join in. Whether as a hashtag or just in response to that post. If you don't like having to artificially boost favourites on twitter then don't use it. Par for the course. Instagram won't work. Unless the Google Analytics numbers prove me wrong. Reddit is a safezone for people to talk smack. Good, bad, or ugly content. Let it be. Deviantart is a weird place that I will never understand. But we have artists here who are regularly making random stuff and somehow new players trickle through from it. Liven up the art community by encouraging the use of Deviantart.
