~-~ A Return ~-~

As the dust settled around the injured Aldal Ireheart, and the bandits that had stripped him of possessions and power scarpered away, he whispered a silent prayer of thanks to Dungrimm that he had survived.

He vaguely recalled the frightened words of his son, who thought him dead, in memories cloaked in fog. But this was the only memory that remained. His mind was an empty vessel now, devoid of any thoughts but of the fact that his kin, whoever they were, had been informed of his passing. Days passed like this, with the injured dwarf lying broken by the roadside. Eventually, with Yemaker's blessing, a kindly traveller found Aldal and lifted him gently into his carriage.

The next few years were lived out in anonymity. Aldal scraped a living doing whatever he could manage to earn some coin, but his wounds prevented him from straining himself too much. Memories were fleeting; usually just snippets of battles fought long ago or sermons vaguely recalled. He knew he was a dwarf, that much was certain. Until one night. By chance, Aldal stumbled upon a poster praising the dwarven Paragons. Images began to fly through Aldal's mind, and he could remember. Very little, but it was something. The one thing that stood out was that of himself handing Igor Ireheart the Hammer of Barradin, sentencing him, as the confused dwarf thought at the time, to death.

Years more passed, and Aldal's heart was heavy with the memory of Igor's passing. He blamed himself, for he could not remember the true story of his friend's heroism. As fate allowed, though, he made his way to a grand library one day, and managed to locate a book on dwarven history. But his small stature was his undoing, and, falling from a ladder, he was struck heavily on the head by the immense tome.

The blow to his head triggered something in the depths of Aldal's subconscious, and for the first time in almost four elven years, he could remember every detail of his life to date. With a shocked gasp, his head swimming from cognitive overload, the restored dwarf realised that he had to come home.

(( So, I've been terribly homesick for this server of late. It's been far too long, but I'm happy to say I've come back. I won't be on nearly as often as I used to be, with exams coming up and such, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to business with you all))
