HedgeHug 2049 Share Posted May 14, 2017 Spoiler The Edge of the Westerlands, Orcish warcamp - circa 1611 Long he stood there and pondered in thought, staring at the horizon. Daylight grew scarce and the many cries of undead beings began to make the forest ahead rumble and rustle. The orc, neverfearing, neverdoubting, ambitious, stood watch. He had led a short but violent life thusfar. His mind and sword set in undead corpses eversince he could wield the steel of orcish forge. Time did come he made his own tools of war with the crimson raguk steel. The orc, neverfearing, neverdoubting, ambitious, stood vigilant The rustle coming closer, a pack must be approaching. This he thought. The metal cling of his armor and axe echoing in the silence of the encampment. Shortly he glanced at the might of the totems. Four pillars of aurum, safeguarding them all. The orc, neverfearing, neverdoubting, ambitious, went out. Exploring the darkness beyond the wall. To find out what haunted his thoughts, what lurked in those woods, what made him feel watched. Armed with shield and axe he ventured in the darkness. The orc, neverfearing, neverdoubting, ambitous, fell silent. As did the undead cries, the rustle of the woods. A nothingness, darkness, silence came upon him. The orc, fearing, doubting, indifferent, fell down. In darkness he fell there, no to return... ~ Macdunn Guildhall, Laboratories - circa 1611 RESEARCH LOG #105 More samples came in today, truly a magnificent substance it is, this Thanium. Regardless of it’s effects on a larger scale further research has shown great potential for its application. The samples will be stored and refined at a later time. RESEARCH LOG #106 Refined samples are ready for testing, results shall be logged accordingly. It has become apparent that even the smallest quantity reacts heavily when heat is applied, luckily there’s reinforced glass protecting me from these outbursts of mana. RESEARCH LOG #107 An oddity occurded today, for when testing the effects of the substance onto hide or skin, I found myself left with an unpleasant feeling. As if watched here, beneath tons of rock. A quick inspection of the lab soon showed no presence of anyone, thusly I returned to my work and stored the fine dust that was grinded. RESEARCH LOG #115 This… is truly an oddity… this substance, so magnificent… it mustn’t fall in the wrong hands. They mustn’t get hold of it… they watch me, I can feel it. I see nothing yet feel as if watched. Cold… such terrible cold… I must find heat at once. RESEARCH LOG #120 The last of my experiments now comes, one I have dreaded for the longest of times yet - it must be done for the sake of science. Further logs shall be done afterwards. *And so end the logs, the tome holding them lies frozen in the cold and pale hands of Brathal Macdunn. A freezing cold hangs about him in the laboratory, a small plate of thanium dust fallen from the counter next to him, the glass of his respirator broken. His body and visage lies covered in a thin layer of ice, his tongue blackened from frostbite.* ~ The Druidic Isle of Bertha - circa 1611 “Come now, Archibalt, this wae” the hedgehog lazily scuddling forth. The dwarf did chuckle and tightened his buckle - heaving his bag over shoulder. “We’re goin’ on a wee trip!” and so the three of them waddled onwards… or well - Dlun walked onwards, and from two side-pouches Archibalt and Bitters observed the unfamiliar woods around them. “You sure we’re headed the right way?” Sounded the grumpy voice of Archibalt “Worry not, for you cannot go wrong if you have no directions” The dwarf replied with a smile. The thick undergrowth about them slowly moved out of his way with every step, only to then close off behind him. The dwarf waddled on and on, seeing new places. Perhaps me might return one day, perhaps not…. “You left the oven on” - and with that the dwarf did hurry back the way he came to turn it off again, nearly stumbling twice and muttering under his breath. “Okay… now we leave!” spoken with a sigh Much to the hedgehogs amusement Spoiler So many characters, such little time. This is my way of dealing with such...
Motjam_ 26 Share Posted May 14, 2017 Matrim steps out from the elevator, continuing to call out his step-fathers name, though in vain. As he calls he notices his breath turn to wisps before him. Matrim then took note of the biting cold that had engulfed the room, his hand rummages in his coat pocket as he procures a small canteen, he takes a large sip and quickly screws the lid back on, stowing it away hurriedly. The liquor seeming to allow him to shrug off the cold; his storm cloud gaze carefully peers around the room as he makes his way into the main body of the laboratory. "B-Brathal?" he calls, still no response. His surly gaze rests on a strange robed...thing...Crumpled on the floor. Matrim begins to notice that as he drew near, even the liquor was waning on it's ability to keep the cold at bay, his body began to quiver and his breathing ragged in small wisps from his now chapped lips. His eyes slowly widen in horror as it begins to dawn on him what this crumpled pile of robes was... Matrim backpedaled in horror, dry heaving in disgust. He stumbled backwards into the elevator and fumbled for the control lever. As he slowly rose from those icy depths the truth sank in further. He took another, larger, sip from his canteen though his hands still trembled in horror; liquor poured across his faces as he clumsily drunk the fluid. Matrim wiped his lips with the back of his hand and although the elevator had returned to the basement, he continued to sit motionless in the corner of that small compartment.
