"We are here."

{Partially in response to the Reedsborough eviction notice,  but most of this post was written prior to its release.}

"The oldest residents of that abandoned house were the spiders. Many generations had laced the walls with cobwebs of intricate beauty, though now even they lay in dusty rags. It had been three decades since a footstep had echoed within those walls, since the dust had been disturbed and the ghosts awoken. The only furniture was an antique pedestal table carved of local oak and upon it a bottle of finest malt whiskey and one up-turned glass." -Angela Abraham

Following the rise of the village of Mellsbury and the deaths of several old governing figures in halfling community, the village of Reedsborough fell into disrepair and was, to most, forgotten. Nature has reclaimed the pathways, the wooden gazebo, the fairgrounds, and any of the burrows whose doors had mysteriously been swung wide for decades as if to welcome in the local wildlife.

Ivy coils around trees, weaves itself among planks of oaken benches, and climbs up stone facades to reach up to the bright sun. Algae and lily pads ripple with the wind on the water of what must have been the old shogging pond, but the logs must have fallen apart and drifted away. Weeds search for places to sprout out from between mossy cobblestones, and have overgrown the dirt trail that snakes through the sleepy ghost town.

The windows that remain are coated with dust, and furniture is scratched in places where foxes and other forest creatures had been years ago. The sweet yet forlorn sound of a wind chime carries through the village from time to time. You feel certain that you are alone here, or at least that nobody can see you.

A rich culture of song and celebration faded, first into obscurity and then into disappearance. The remaining residents of the village seemed to vanish too, though sometimes they can be seen passing by the windows of the few burrows that seem to have frozen in time by the subtle care of their reclusive miniature inhabitants. The library, too, seems to be in good condition and has even been dusted recently. All of the books that had been kept in the houses around the village seem to have been rescued and placed there. Occasionally, people can even be seen outside foraging or caring for the farm animals or tending the farmland, though the massive harvests of old have become impossible for now.

Next to the eviction signs that had been posted is an addition.. Another sign made from old wood has been stuck into the ground before the others, which has been newly written on with black paint in neat, geometric handwriting.

"Ignore This. It's one or two folk trying to strive to own a dead town. They can't loosen their grip on power, pathetic."
