September Monthly Update Log

New Player Data

The majority of our accepted applicants in this month chose to be Humans, as is the typical pattern. They made up nearly 60% of the chart shown here. Elves followed behind once again, though their numbers were much closer to the Dwarves. Elves made up a little over 20% of the pie chart while Dwarves were about 15%. We are also happy to welcome two new Kharajyr to the server, as well as one new Orc and one new Halfling. Unfortunately, we overall have had less new players of each race in the month of September compared to August because applications were submitted less frequently.

Onto the sub races- Starting with Humans, there was a decent mix of every sub race. Highlanders were most prominent, then Heartlanders, and lastly Farfolk. Roughly ¼ of new human players did not specify any sub race for their beginning character. The Elves were a nearly equal mix of everything. The Wood Elves gained five new players, four accepted High Elves, and a tie of three Dark Elves and Snow Elves. Two Elven players either were mixed race or didn’t choose a sub race. Over ½ of the accepted Dwarves did not specify a sub race. The rest consisted of mainly Mountain Dwarves and one Cavern Dwarf. The only accepted Orc applied as a Goblin.

Our acceptance rate for the month of September was about ~67%. While this is a 13% decrease from August, we also have received less applications to review. I believe the lesser app traffic has to do with people being busy with school assignments, and waiting for the upcoming 6.0 map to eventually be released. ~43% of applicants were directly accepted and implemented onto the server (with a small amount of these being alt apps), while ~39% were placed on pending and given advice on their application before eventually reaching a final verdict. ~63% of the pending applications were ultimately accepted onto the server, which was about ¼ of the overall 130 applications. The remainder were denied after some consultation on how to improve their applications. Sadly there was quite a significant portion of the individuals who were denied without a chance at adjustments. The debate on how we should go about reviewing pending applications and whether or not auto denials should be removed (with the exception of broken rules) has been continuous, and I am still working alongside my managers on a solution that will suit everyone.

Americans were in abundance, making up ~60% of accepted applicants in total. Those in the European time zone followed behind making up roughly 30% of the new players, and we also received seven individuals from the Oceania time zone (9%). We’re always happy to see people from all over the world coming to join us on Lord Of The Craft.

Member Additions and Resignations/Removals

Throughout the month I have been going through a ton of the sitting staff application, giving interviews to those my managers and I believed might make a good fit for the team. The Application Team is keeping our team at a mere 9 members, so this round we only took on new members who truly stood out during the interviewing process. While giving interviews we always search for individuals whose answers were thorough, genuine, humble, and show they have a clear vision on how they would like to see the server grow and be a better place for new players. Sky and Farryn both showed these attributes, and we’re very happy to welcome them onto the team. Those who did well but didn’t quite meet the expectations we’re looking for at the moment were placed in the shortlisted subforum. We are still completing a few more interviews, and will soon be taking on one final member. We have also said goodbye to three members of our team in the month of September, and I wish them all the best of luck on future endeavors.

Team Data

Application quota remained at 7% for regular members and 3.5% for managers. Not any changes there, as we will now have a consistent number of team members. Once again, I personally took any applications that were left up for an excessively long period of time and nearly made quota myself.

I'm happy to announce that something very exciting was brought to us by Kowaman recently. That was the implementation of many new commands given to Application Team Members for us to better assist new players in game. We now have a command that gives us the ability to see all new players online with the [n] tag as well as return the [n] tag to new players who were tricked into doing the /notnew command. We also are now able to be notified whenever a new player logs on, and can teleport directly to spawn. Thank you to the Dev team for all of their hard work- I can’t wait to see all of the projects that come out of these wonderful additions!

To make it a bit less confusing, I took the liberty to cross out the names in pink of members who departed from the team in the midst of September. Sky and Farryn were added to the team around the very end of the month, and so they were not required to hit quota. Our biggest team contributor this month was @AfricanGlasses by far, with 42 completed applications! @Nate1450 is another member who majorly exceeded his quota, going out of his way to assist new players when he didn’t have to. Everyone did a wonderful job, truly. I appreciate everyone's hard work. There were two member who fell just behind quota, and I encourage them to work a bit harder in the following months.

Team Projects and Goals

  • Created "LOTC Introductory"- this is a club destined to be a place new players can go to meet each other and hang out, as well as learn more about the server. This will also be sort of a "waiting room" wandering souls can go to for entertainment while waiting for a final verdict on their application. There isn't much going on with it just yet, but there will be!

  • Working towards amendments with our pending application process.

  • Continuation on gathering player retention information. (A report will be going up in the next day or so on this topic.)

  • Will be creating projects centered around helping new players with our several new in-game commands.

  • Revival of the ET/AT events project. This will have slow progression, and hopefully will be something that can be implemented around 6.0.

  • The New Player Discord is still up and running, as well as the Tailor's Guild. I will make sure these things stay active and helpful.

  • Moving towards updating various guides and references found throughout the forums.

If you'd like to help out new players in one of our AT projects open to the community, check out the hyperlinks in my forum signature. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions. Have a lovely October all. ~

We often see that people apply as the races they're more familiar with, but once they get immersed into the server they eventually try out the other races. ^^

In addition, new players usually like to be a race in which they know they'll find more role play on the server. If the current community were to start playing these less popular races more often, I'm sure some new players could be recruited.
