The Chase That Never Ends

In whatever ever-present publication shows such things, musings from a middle-aged knight can be seen.

We, the surviving descendant races, travelled to Axios after Vailor rotted under a malignant Shamanistic curse. We fled to Vailor, where my family became a house, from the lands of Athera where a colossal worm annihilated everything. The mystical fringe succumbed to searing drought and decay after the remnants of the Scourge were defeated. Anthos, the lands of our human Empire’s greatest accomplishments and triumphs, succumbed to a legendary deluge conjured by that very same Scourge. A gap in the historical knowledge exists at this point, until the point at which cataclysmic ground-quakes and lightning storms are spoken of as the trigger for leaving the land of Asulon, where the great human Empire reunited for the first time. What occurred before this cloudy time in history is a mystery to nearly all I have spoken to, for even most of the Mali races do not recall. We are left only with the tales of the destruction of a land named Aegis by the forces of Iblees: the Great Destroyer.

Were there worlds or lands before this point in history? We cannot know. But it is clear to me that some fate or destiny perpetually looms over us; a sword always over the necks of the descendant races. We are not meant to live, we are not meant to settle and to live in peace, at least in our current state. Tis my belief that this pursuit of us will never end, we will skip like mice from one sparse island of safety to the other, fearfully gazing into the abyss all around us. Does HE, the lord, wish for us to forsake the mortal world so he might bring us all to his domain? Have we been cursed to withdraw and scurry away for all time by the destroyer; the beast from whom first we fled? Perhaps our GOD is punishing us for our sins. We cannot know.

I predict this: sooner or later, Axios will die like the rest, and once again shall we upend our civilisation and run with our tails between our legs to save our fleeting mortal reality, leaving the many tens of thousands of bones of our ancestors behind once again. This cycle will continue forever, in an agonisingly gradual decay and decline, until the descendants are extinct, and then something new may begin from the ruins. It seems as though all we can do for now is worship HIM, and have faith that one day HE might see us worthy of a golden land, where we can live in peace, that our seemingly everlasting journey might come to an end. One thing I am certain of though, is that we cannot run forever. We must break this curse, or sooner or later we will face judgement.
