The Wilted Flower

Her breathing became hitched, nails digging into the soft mattress which felt as soft as a cloud under her touch, although drenched in her  sweat. Heart thudding in pale finger tips and wilted ears, worse in the head as the rhythmic beat overwhelmed and drowned out any other possible thoughts. Dried blood stained her lips as she began to gently cough out with soft wheezing.

-

"Her time is near an end - A terrible thing this is."

   "Be quiet, please."

    "Is it apart of life."

-

Pain coursed her arm as a pair of gentle fingers were placed upon it. A unsteadied gaze finding the problem; Erlan; her son. Deep eyes of crimson hue fixated to her as the dark-skinned boy looked to the window quietly - tears tracing his cheeks as he quietly hiccuped. He was her first; the spawn of a chieftain and dawning love. His father that of strong bloodline and himself that of a strong heart. Behind the boy sit a gorgeous elders he claimed as his own and a trio of youth.

"You will not die mother, you are strong..."

Across from him a younger male of tan skin look over various vials in concern, figure draped in thin clothing as his rusty-red hair stick about wildly in a thick braid. He glance down to her in concern, lips sealing as he continued to look about crazily. The boy was a mistake; Kolohe; her second son. Bastard of Abelas Caemre'onn - one of her closet friends,  who earned a special type of love from the elfess. He was truly the father of this boy who frantically and stubornly aim to discover a solution.

"I will find a way to perhaps cease this sickness - or delay its impact."

A scowl echoed out from the corner of the small clinic, its source wedged far aback from others. Her deep blue eyes set unto those gathered with heavy pity behind the guard she held. Gauntlets shifted with metallic cries as the young but determined elfess stepped forth into sight. The cursed features of Athna closing in; Hillith; her daughter. She grip to the ill woman's hand. Her father was that of her last love - a brilliant man with a soft yet courageous core - he was a man who saved her from suffering but in the end managed to return it all and more. A confusing love.

"You will be guided to happiness in your afterlife."

-

So much has occurred and yet not much is to be said. She was dying. It was coming. The elfess weakly placed her palm unto a box indicating for the notes within to be delivered.

"I thank you for all that you have done for me. From the depth of my heart only warmth can come. You're a sorrowful elf - mar'maln. Shattered by your past, and for that I thank that my believed end comes soon. The Aspects see it - fret not, I will tell Salhassan you love her on the other side."

Sister, we have not touched often, and Maasil is long gone. There is naught much I can say as you are no longer you - But instead the corpse of what I once knew. I loved the truthful you, even if you brought annoyance and hardship. You were my sister, what brings more shame is that you're incapable to feel or notice the agony every time you are mentioned or near."

Eventually the elfess loosen her grip unto the bed, a singular raspy exhale parting from her dried lips. The only thing she could feel being everlasting regret.

   Calendula was no more.

An old and ragged rattlesnake might be seen leaving a flower on the deceased Druid’s grave.
