There is an un-knowing that exists at the beginning of every first chapter; before every first page, where the seams separate parchment from cover. The origin of all that we know eludes us, fools us into a complacency - a state of thought where the present and future become our concerns, our ailment. Never is the opaque fog of the past passed into for determination, interpretation, and revelation; not genuinely, at least. Men chart their scrolls of history back to their chosen point in time when all things began. Where truth is not realized, falsities spring forth to explain what they do not know. There is something to learn from that, from this habit where the truth of antediluvian days is skirted and displaced by hymns and stories and make-believe: the world began without knowledge, and without knowledge shall it end.

A blackness dwells in the past we have not yet taken witness to; a twisted, shifting shadow where an Age of Blood and Darkness dominated the tame earth we walk now. One may put their ear to the earth and listen, should they linger the darkest place imaginable -- and they will soon hearken to the ruminations of the spirit of this forsaken Once-Was, eager to break the chains of this New Order and once again obscure the sun from the sky we look to every day of our lives."
