On the 2nd of Sun's Smile, 1664, an announcement echoed through the halls of Kal'Tarak. An ashen-skinned female dwarf stood atop a pedestal to address the crowd of smiths, miners and vanguard members in a hoarse yet prideful tone. "Gather around, my ashen kin. Gather around, for you will no longer be scattered." She waved toward the many dark dwarves in the crowd. "In this time of scattered beards, I found it paramount for our kin to unite. We've been scattered: some of us in hiding, some living with elves or humans, some considered outcasts within the Dwarven society. But no more."

 

"I hereby announce the foundation of a new clan. A clan of Dark Dwed, a clan loyal to the teachings of the Derva, though a clan aiming not to preserve a bloodline but to unite the Dark Dwarves under a common sigil." She remained on the stand and reached to lift an ornate Dwarven helmet. It looked ancient, weathered and carried multiple runes along its sides, including the name of Dungrimm engraved over and over. "I, Koralon Doomforged, declare the foundation of the Onyxheart clan to unite the Dark Dwarves. I declare, with my father's blessing, my intent to teach the Onyxhearts the ways of Dungrimm, Dormmar and Ograghad. To teach them the ways of Karsúl, of Aengul and Daemon alloys, of bending the mundane to serve the Khazadmar. And in return, I also pledge to teach them undying loyalty to Dwarvenkind."

Though the clan accepts clanless Beardlings into its ranks, the Onyxhearts are limited to all dark dwarves. This means that their skin colour ranges from light grey to black, with various hair colours and uniform fiery eyes.

 

The Onyxhearts wear heavy armour, usually the highest quality steel smithed. The clan dons ceremonial armour for the less combat-intensive occasions, pieces that are warforged to have a glowing steel undertone, similar to the Doomforged laval-armours.

The idea of a reformed, non blood-based clan of Dark Dwarves has been floating around ever since the retreat of the Doomforged into obscurity after the Urguan Civil War. Five decades later, Dark Dwarves re-appeared within the various scattered holds of the Khazadmar, though under different clan names each: Doomforged, Corehammer, Moltenjaw and more. Though the Dark Dwarves discussed uniting under one clan, no step was taken until Koralon Doomforged and Noria Corehammer agreed to form a new clan and forge new legacy, which was then blessed by the former's father. The Onyxhearts follow the teachings of the Derva and submit themselves to the Doomforged tenets of not serving a person, an ideology or a hold but the Khazadmar as a whole and the true claimants to Urguan's throne. As the clan was founded by a Doomforged and is currently led by one, it owes everlasting loyalty to the Doomforged clan as well.

 

In the realm of Atlas, the clan is currently affiliated with the Kingdom of Kaz'Ulrah and most members reside in the Hidden Hold of Khazad'Akduum, where the Dark Dwarves construct an impenetrable fortress, industrial centre and clan hall. The clan maintains the independence of its individual members, respecting their heritage and their own ancestry. In this regards, the Onyxhearts are more a collection and union of smaller clans than an actual clan of their own.

The Three Dwarven Paths

 

The Onyxheart clan revers three great paths, and demands each member to first choose one, then master all three. Any Dark Dwarf who has not completed the trials of either three paths is considered a Beardling. Any dwarf that completed all three paths is accepted as a clan elder proper. The path of war, the path of knowledge and the path of craft are protected by the Brathmordakin Dungrimm, Ograghad and Dormmar respectively, and each have their own set of trials to test a new Dwarf.

 

Wolfpacks

 

The clan was founded by an avid raider who has participated in a plethora of past wars and conflicts. The Onyxhearts form wolfpacks to prey on their enemies and harass them as much as possible during war times. Their behaviour, tactics and attitude is often compared to that of orcs,  which is reinforced by the clan's closeness and respect towards Krugmar's descendants. Onyxhearts maintain the Ireheart tradition of hunting for elf ears, and tend to pride their trophies worn around their neck.

 

Warforging

 

Smiths of the clan are expected to forge the highest quality of weapons and armour. The most talented, however, learn the art of warforging and are capable of creating armour inlaid with what seems to be flowing magma or molten steel. The clan also seeks to resurrect the art of golemancy.

The Helm of Dungrimm was recovered by Koralon from the Shrine of Dungrimm in Axios. It’s an ornate iron helmet of ancient dwarven craft, with numerous runes lining it. Allegedly, the wearer of the helmet may use its runic power to animate a corpse and force them into temporary servitude. For a short period of time, it was stolen by the Elven mage Lhindir, though was later returned to Koralon proper who has been holding onto the helmet as relic and proof of Dungrimm's favour ever since.

 

ℜ?????? ??? ℭ?????????

 

 

Rudolph is a large, 3 metres long embalmed Crockodile. It was obtained by the Onyxhearts in 1665 and has been kept as a clan mascot since. Rudolph seems to have a strange effect on surrounding dwarves, somewhat similar to drunken-ness depending on the time spent around it. The effect fades at a distance, though.
