Introduction and Advice

Ilyrius

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I go by the name of Ilyrius and I've tried to get into LOTC a few times without a whole lot of success. I have a considerable amount of experience playing on other servers, most of which have died out by now. The main thing I struggled with whilst playing on this server was that I struggled to find myself as an established member of the server when starting from scratch and not knowing any players currently on the server. I hope this thread reaches some of the more experienced members of the server who could offer some advice. A few simple questions to be answered would be great.

1.) I want to feel as though I play a significant role on the server - are there occupations / jobs that would be worth looking at to do so?

2.) Where would be a good place to start?

This is all I can come up with so far, but I'll expand the thread if I come up with any more. Any help is appreciated guys!

1: Perhaps consider playing a noble? There's usually a noble family out there (Lesser or Greater) looking for someone to play a child, which would mean you'd get involved in politics right off the bat, and would have a family to roleplay with as well. The Human race is well known for having lots of nobility and stuff, but other races and groups might have hereditary power that you could get involved in by playing a family's child (with their permission, of course).

2: You can start anywhere you want to! Usually a good rule of thumb is to hang out where other members of your race hang out, but if the number of people in your race doesn't suit you, you could travel abroad and visit other roleplay hubs, like the Dominion of Malin or Renatus-Marna. Heck, even the halflings have good activity sometimes. You just have to ask where the roleplay is in /help or /ooc.

idk i think its pretty rare for established noble families to just accept some random new guy that they dont know into their families, Infact most people will never give you a rank that high without knowing you personally. The best way to reach a position is to start at the bottom and work your way up, making yourself known, showing others that you are here to stay and that you want to become big. There is also the option to start a family but usually no one will take you seriously until you reach a certain amount of power and influence which becomes a hard thing to do if you are practically new to the whole game of politics in the human realms. You could also try to become a vassal of some big human nation and build your way up that way, but i wouldn't recommend making your own settlement unless you have friends to play with, because otherwise you'll feel as though your village or town is always deserted and you'll feel like you dont want to play. So my biggest suggestion would be to join one of the big human settlements and just start out as someone small, like a guard or a soldier or a merchant, and build your influence up until you can be recognized as more than that. It's rare for people to just join up and suddenly become nobles, this only happens if you have ooc influence on the server like for example vege, he can make any random character and he will always be able to build him into some sort of leader because people know him ooc and will be willing to join him which bolster his claims of power, this is simply not possible with someone new who knows no other players.

Hi there, it's always nice to see a new player on the server. If you're looking for RP jobs, you could become a guard, merchant, a baker, a miner, basically anything you can think of. Being a guard or just selling things are pretty common ones.

As for places to start, if you're looking for RP, RP hubs are good places to start. The Dominion, Renatus-Marna, Holm, and Sutica are all pretty active. And if you're looking for friends, feel free to PM me and we can chat lol. I dont bite.

Welcome to the server! As Unwillingly said, feel free to pm me if looking for some good ol' ooc friends.

In game wise, a lot has already been said for what you can do though I would add bartender or tavern worker to the list of good jobs. They can be a go to place for rp within cities as it is neutral ground rather than having to snoop about homes, shops, and what not to find people.

Moved to The Great Library. It shall be sorted into the appropriate category shortly.

If you feel this is a mistake, please contact myself or any FM and we'll restore it.
