A Pontifical Letter

To Yurii of Haense,

Congratulations, my friend, on the publication of your seven books of thought. It is good to know that your dethronement of the pontificate is finally enough motivation for you to become an active member of society.

In response to your commentary regarding the legitimacy of my transparency, let me then make this crystal clear before not only you, but the children of God.

Anyone who walks the roads of Atlas could debate the claims of His Imperial Majesty Aurelius, but I cannot help but notice the confusion that resides in the words of your publications. You write with the fear of an underlying plot against you, deem us lowly villains biting at your ankles, and yourself a holy, virtuous man who graces this world without a single misdemeanor. But it was not the emperor that spurred your college of clergy to act, nay-- verily, it was your own response to the emperor’s actions in which motivated us.

You forget that it was not the Emperor who chose the Pontiff, but it was your own peers who cast their vote for the next Vicar of GOD. It was your own peers who witnessed the downfall of a Pontiff as he flew into hysterics like no man this century has ever seen. Verily, if you were as effective at leading as you are crying, then certainly the Church would have reached new heights.

In an act of childish tantrum, you haphazardly issued your now illegitimate Golden Bull, lunging at the chance to remove every bishop from their diocese instead of emerging from your solitary hideaway to try and communicate, to try and confront the crisis with the aforementioned party and His Imperial Majesty. You would sooner prefer the Holy Mother Church become crippled and dilapidated than admit to your own wrongdoing and indolence. You do not strive for unity, you strive for selfishness.

Despite the claims presented to me that you may in fact be undead, I’d sooner deem you a churlish dragon, the way you attempt to hoard all apostolic power for yourself, and thieve the holy relics of the Church to cling to your delusions of righteousness.

When I first arrived to Judeburg and made your acquaintance, I found you a quiet but virtuous man who strove to maintain a strong Church in the name of our Creator. But as the years went by I watched as a once respectable Pontiff morphed himself into a paranoid madman; a man supine in both laziness and morality.

If I have learned one thing from your pontificate, it is that inaction is still action. Your time spent dwindling in perpetual indolence may serve as a prime example to the faithful children of GOD, as you blacken the name Siegmund I.

This is the only statement to be issued on the matter. I will leave you to your self-imposed isolation.

Signed,
His Holiness Daniel V, High Pontiff of the Church of the Canon, Metropolitan of Rhodesia, Successor of the High Priesthood of the Church, Supreme Pontiff of the Church of True Faith, Keeper of the Canon, Pilgrim to Aeldin, High Servant to the Exalted's Testaments, Humble Servant of the Faithful and Vicar of GOD

“All men are capable of sin, even the highest within the Church.” Rudolph muttered to himself as he read the missive. “It is a shame that Yurii tried to push blame onto things outside of his control. Yurii’s overreaction spurred the Synod’s judgement, and such sentiments had been discussed for a long time. I sincerely hope he lives out the rest of his days somewhere peaceful, where he can contemplate on his character and the word of GOD.”

“Nothing more than a puppet of the emperor.” An imperial citizen muttered under his breath.

“Weird, that citizen looks like a dwarf.”
