The small, youthful Viktoriya Bennett had decided to take a leisurely stroll before bed, her young mind clouded by troubling thoughts and wonders. First, she’d taken a stop by Novellan Palace, admiring its beauty & architecture- then, the Square, idly browsing shops as she mumbled to herself about her next day’s schedule. There, a woman- Sky Mesnia - pushed her way into the streets, screeching about a man’s failed attempt on her life: and there he stood, dark and looming, across the street from the crowd that had gathered. The man had rancid-smelling, dirtied clothing, along with an odd black mask covering his facial features. He had un-combed, black hair, and stood at a stunning 6’1’’. No name was ever given before his takedown by the guards- thus called ‘John Doe’.

Sadly enough, this accusation was pushed aside by those watching, including the small girl Viktoriya. ”Surely,” they all thought, ”That woman is crazy.”

Nothing more than 10 Saint’s minutes later, the girl would begin to make her way back towards her family’s estate, feeling dreary and tired. Upon turning the corner to the Basrid Boulevard block, she spotted the woman from earlier that evening and the man at the end of the road, the poor maiden being cornered by the beast. Nervously taking a step back, young Viktoriya tried to retreat to scream for the guards- though her first call went unanswered. Quick to her yelp, the criminal lunged toward her and held the poor child up by her neck against the wall, while the other woman ran. Taking his blade, he thrust it into the girl’s shoulder, having had aimed for her throat- luckily having an utterly terrible sense of direction due to the mask.

The woman came back, despite having no guard by her side, attempting, and failing, to save the girl. The brute’s grip on the tot’s throat only getting tighter and deadlier as his life was threatened. Finally, a guard rounded the corner, bearing a mighty Imperial State-issued blade. Recruit Johius Jones, it was, first to the scene. Realizing his error, the thug pleaded to the soldier, ironically stating he was doing no crime! But, the Imperial warrior was no fool- and began to corner him with the other woman’s aid.

As the situation worsened for the criminal, it did the same for the small girl, now on the brink of death. With one foot in the grave, the girl would make a feeble attempt to escape his grasp- she’d unsheathed her dagger and attempted to plunge it into his shoulder: astonishingly succeeding. Screaming in agony, he’d thrown her up against the wall and prepared to defend himself against Jones’ strike, blocking his first blow.

Now, a crowd had begun to assemble- another Imperial armyman by the name of Sir Henry coming to defend. The thug began to realize he’d be apprehended, sooner or later- so, going back to the girl, he’d plucked her from the ground and used the palace courtier as a hostage to ensure no more harm would come to himself. Of course, she would try to stab him once more, the knife still residing in her trembling hands. This time, his wrist, making him fling her once again, her face hitting the pavement with a terrible thud. With the child out of the way, the soldiers, along with a brave passerby, Ciliren Vethrai, promptly apprehended and executed the criminal, justly so. Afterwards, an onlooker by the name of Jorden Marie- a girl, near the age of young Viktoriya- admitted the man had assaulted her as well, though it is unknown if it is true: or why the thug had not been arrested.

Now, the moral of this story is- per the Imperial State Army’s famous motto:

”You do the crime? You do the time!”

(Except, in this thug’s case, the ‘time’ is being executed.)
