Archbishop Alfred Ruthern

INTRODUCTION:

The Archdiocese of Jorenus, established 1768 in the Thirteenth Golden Bull of Helena, serves as an ecclesiastical province under the authority of the Holy See within the lands of the Haeseni people. Its purpose is to spiritually guide its inhabitants and teach the Virtue of the Canon. The Diocese furthermore stands as a channel for relations between the state and the church.

After decades of governance by Archbishop Anton, in 1777 the archdiocese of Jorenus was placed under the authority of His Eminence, Alfred Cardinal Jorenus of Reza, appointed by His Holiness James II. Prior to his elevation as Bishop, Alfred studied theology and set forth his life to become a scholar. Yet, once he found his true path leading to the church, he served as a pious wandering priest in the lands of Arcas.Alfred later worked in the orphanage in Helena until his elevation.

He is most well-known for assisting the Haensetic forces in the siege of Reza, saving the lives of countless by repelling pagan invaders from his homeland, and serving in the Pontifical Curia as Auditor of the Tribunal.

SERVICES:

The Archdiocese offers numerous services to the faithful people of Haense. These range from social services, administered by layman employees of the Diocese, or religious services, administered by an ordained clergy member of the Church of the Canon. To have a personal service hosted, the Office of the Archbishop stands wide open for any appointments;

The Archdiocese’s services are available through its two bishops: Bishop Jakob in Reza, and Goren Cardinal Kovacs in Johnstown.

These Services are:

Weekly mass, Baptism, funeral rites, wedding ceremonies, a daily soup kitchen in the cathedral, education of the laity and the giving of alms to the faithful in need.

ADMINISTRATION

The Archdiocese of Jorenus has at its head a senior ordained minister of the Canonist Church. This appointment is the purview of the High Pontiff. It governs the two largest cities in the region, New Reza in the Diocese of Petrovic and Johnstown in the Diocese of Kovacs, as well as outlying parishes.

The Office of Archbishop has 2 individual Dioceses underneath it. Those being the Diocese of Kovacs and the Diocese of Petrovic. Each diocese has a Bishop at its head, who is under the direct authority of the Archbishop and the High Pontiff himself. They administer the individual diocese they are appointed to and take care of its spiritual needs, performing services and acting as an extension of the church.

Alongside these offices, the Archdiocese of Jorenus has within its administration a member of the laity, who serves as the Archdeacon. He represents the faithful flock of the Archdiocese and addresses their wishes and concerns directly to the Archbishop. He works alongside the Archbishop as his right hand man, being tied to the diocese he is positioned in.

SERVING GOD:

THE CLERGY

From the office of Archbishop to the humble village priest, the diocese is fully governed and administered by ordained ministers of the Canonist Church. To join this administration, a faithful descendant must join the ranks of the church as an Acolyte. These ready themselves to become ministers and study to publish their thesis on a topic concerning Canonism.

Once this thesis is completed, it is presented to the local Bishop or Archbishop himself for approval. Once approved, the Acolyte takes on the vows of the church and swears an oath of loyalty to GOD and the High Pontiff. The Acolyte is then anointed to the position of Priest and is assigned to the diocese of their choice.

THE LAITY

Alongside the ordained aspect of the Archdiocese, there is the laity, which is the faithful community of the dioceses. Laymen are unordained servants of the Church and the clergy itself. They are the backbone of all the daily tasks which require to be done in the Archbishopric Palace, the Cathedral, and elsewhere in the diocese. This includes everything ranging from chefs, to charity workers, to groundskeepers, to cleaners, and so forth.

THE PRIORY OF SAINT ROBERT

The last members of the Archdiocese are the monastics. They are pious members of the clergy, female or male,  who spend most of their time studying and living the virtues of Saint Robert. The Priory prides itself on having a large and ever-growing library of religious and historical texts. In addition to this, it operates a clinic named the Hospice of the Shining Sacrament, which is located within the monastery area. Both of these institutions are organised and led by the members of the monastery and the greater Church. Those with remarkable skill and piety are however permitted to hold specialized roles, in the Hospice for example.

The Pontifical Secretariat, Sister Anabel, inspired a gust of air as she sought refuge in any of the vacant settees within the Holy See. The minister probed over the missive, having swept it from the heap of parchments lain before her.

At its proliferation, she mustered a vague smile to a passing layman, resolving to pay a visit to the commendable Archbishop’s territorial demesne. Untensing her shoulders, the cadaverous being recited the lorraine over herself, treading onward  into the sanctuary’s depths

“I’m glad to see how the Archdiocese of Jorenus shall grow, may Godan bless you for your work for our Holy church.” Johan would smile as he read through the letter delivered to him.
