A LETTER TO OREN

22nd of Sun’s Smile, 1786

To Her Imperial Majesty, Anne I, to His and Her Imperial Excellency, Jonah Stahl-Elendil and Celestine Herbert, and to the honest citizens of the Holy Orenian Empire:

Ingenious and resourceful is humanity, wise and enduring are mali’thill. The great golden ages of peace and progress for all peoples have long been stewarded by the cooperation of our two races. Most regrettably, the past century had seen the silver of Haelun’or tainted with Diarchic red; republic replaced with regressive isolationism, steered by promiscuity and uncouth demagoguery. Noble democracy found itself restored under the preceding Sohaer Nelgauth Maehr’tehral and the still-vigilant Maheral Ikur Sullas, the Silver City once more opening her pristine gates to the world.

Some two decades have passed since then, and the new Council has seen our ancient philosophy of Progress and Health adhered to with renewed vigor. This commonwealth of purity, the one founded on the ideals of Malaurir Astóre and Ellir’siol, now stands stalwart. In consequence, it is now an aim of my administration to see our connections with our friends abroad rekindled. To that end, I declare the pact of non-aggression established previously invalid. Instead, I propose it be replaced by a formal alliance.

In view of the foregoing Haelun’or wishes to invite Orenian scholars to attend lectures at our Eternal College, expanding upon the opening of the Eternal Library to all peoples during the previous office. The academic pursuit of your people is admirable, but you will find a much more aged pedagogic tradition in the Silver State, wherein lies the largest collection of tomes in Arcas and intellects with centuries of experience. Our knowledge is no longer a jewel to be kept well-hidden and safeguarded, but instead to be taught and shared in the aim of contributing towards peace and stability for all Descendants.

Should the ideas laid forth be found amiable in their reception the Silver State duly extends an invitation to discuss the particulars to the concerned diplomatic parties, namely the Archchancellor, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and her Imperial Majesty the Empress. Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya.

Signed by the Sohaer of Haelun’or,

James II remarks to the Auditor of the Tribunal, “I was most impressed by the Silver State during my visit--although the acid pit gave some cause for concern. In any case, the Eternal Library is quite a collection. It would behoove Imperial scholars to access it, though I pray only those of guarded mind are sent to attend these lectures. We would not want Haelunorian state atheism to come home with our ambassador-scholars.”

To the Sohaer of Haelunor, Eredael Rhenaer:

As a lifetime scholar myself, I am pleased on a most personal level to see this invite extended for men and women of learning across the Empire to attend the lectures being held at the Eternal College of the Silver State. The Eternal Library in and of itself is a marvel to be admired, and it is truly an honor for our citizens to be bestowed the opportunity to delve into its magnificent collection.

We do indeed find your proposal to be amicable. However, on behalf of Her Imperial Majesty, we would instead wish to invite yourself, the Maheral, and any other pertinent members of the Silver Council to the Novellen Palace for a state visit in order to further engage in these discussions. It seems only just that we return the same hospitality which you have exhibited toward us.

On behalf of the Stahl-Elendil Ministry, we look forward to speaking about the prospect of a stronger relationship between our two countries.

Signed,

HER IMPERIAL EXCELLENCY, Celestine Herbert, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

Grishnaakh’Raguk only offered a curt curl of his lip, either brows furrowing in an irritated, perhaps even, angered, gesture, the muscles upon his frons and eyebrows having been pulled together to amplify such. Long since had he renounced the ways of ‘thill, and Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya, but instead embraced those of Krug, and the ‘ker brother Maehr, of ages past. And, long since had he also taken to befriending his most holy manifestation of death, Kor, and the Ancestrals he held a duty to allow to roam free in the afterlife.

”Paint the Diarchy red; reject the teachings of Larihei.” The Raguk only heeded to his call once.
