As of 3 SA, the Ferryman are eager to announce that the backs of hundreds have finally been armoured. Those travellers on the roads, whom peddle goods now have a way to properly keep their travelling families away from harm. This of course, was only achieved by the redistribution and stripping of the Scarlet armies own armour and weapons — with their carried mina only allotted to those who dwell outside of their walls. So I urge this, those who are in need of the Ferrymen’s helping hand, have no fear and reach out. For we are truly the brave heroes of this tale.

 

Morn had just struck and the sun was rising in the overcast sky nearby, the merchants of Almaris were beginning to pour onto the roads too. To give context, recent times have told that the Imperial State Army had been far too concerned with protecting their own pride, rather than their citizens. Concerning that, us Ferrymen have made it our duty ourselves to protect their roads. To ensure balance, guaranteeing that no poor man will take from another poor man and so on. Hence, when we found ourselves in the presence of one their commanders it was as if Krugsmas had come early.

 

 

In our group was a noble four, bear in mind, two of the four were fresh-faced and without any consequential victories; yet. We then tailed the commander until she was out of sight from the rest of those who were roaming the roads. She was a singular step away from safety when we caught her off guard, pressing the chilling, steel tip of one of our blades into her back. “Withou’ another step,” our leader commanded prior to instructing her plainly. “Put ye ‘ands up, an’ no harm will come to ye.” Naturally, the commander obliged, her clammy hands thrusting into the air, where she was then searched, bound and taken away.

 

After having found suitable terrain for the upcoming, foreseeable battle, the Captain was roped around a large oak. There she sat, moping in what she had assumed to be her last moments in life, telling us all about how truly despicable and corrupt their last General was. She relayed the sorrow of her life, how at a tender age, the scoundrel old codger, General Denurum, had pressed her into service. One shudders at the thought, for the Empire is truly built upon the blood of innocents. She was only in their army without choice, only from the threat of death lingering; for her and her loved ones.

 

Having felt sick to our stomachs, we offered the Captain a chance at life. For her to drop her post and to join us in arms, yet with the ultimatum of death proposed upon her by her very own comrades, she stayed in fear. 

 

 

A letter was then drafted and sent to the Basilica, detailing the situation, giving them thirty Saint’s minutes to arrive. The latter option being that the Captain loses two of her eyes, suffering the same fate as one of their previous men. One would consider this a mercy, for to see no evil perhaps they may yet not commit further evil.  They arrived a minute on the dot, all losing their footing and stumbling across the uneven terrain and tiniest pebbles; fortunately there was no wall for them to plummet from this time. Then with a wobbling jowl, their commander presented an ill-witted and empty threat, “Release her, or else!” No such thing was obliged by, and so they staggered on, blades quaking in their gluttonous mittens.

 

With it being early in the morning, the red mass had no time to indulge in their most lavish of second breakfasts, so they fought egregiously. The battle was nothing to letter home about, for it was over within less than half of the hour. Our champions of the road, who were plagued by the hoard at first, were now turned on their heels, herding the sluggish foe back into their walls. We trailed their last three standing to an outpost, we were without any doubts that they would poke their white flag high into the skies. As we had their captain held outside, beaten bloody and trampled into the dirt. Yet, they refused our final chance to save her life.

 

 

It is here that I announce the death of our first man. For he was so touched by the story of the captain at hand, at how she was forced to toil away in the army — at arm’s length from a threat, at both her and her own family. So with animosity flickering in his reddened eyes, he marched into their gated outpost. Wielding his sword true and proper, the gate slammed shut behind him and he was then left in his lonesome to tackle the last three. Swinging so ferociously, he used his sword much akin to a hammer, bringing it down upon the thick forehead of a soldier so dense, his sword broke in two. 

 

It was a saddened sight to behold, but he fought with courage and with purpose. The Seven Skies smile upon him, Imperial, can you say the same?

Sinding Labdacus wanders into his shoddy, small shack, placing a kettle of water over the fire, awaiting for it to heat up, to serve as a warm comfort from the bonechilling cold of the mines, awaiting to hear the tales of his brothers in arms battles with the outrageously cowardly and petty humans thaat dare call themselves an empire, the thought of that alone made him chuckle, and brought him about as much comfort as the warm tea he would soon consume.

Aplex Cenobia sighed as he read of his wife's misfortune while the sounds of imperial soldiers echoed in the background of the Providence square "They scream for pay, beg for it & threaten to arrest to average citizen for it but yet they fail to do their job properly. I'm starting to see where these ferrymen come from..." The age man rasped "And yet.... they carry no morals. They reap the very sound of the nordlings & suffonians who maimed, tortured & slaughtered children so very long ago." He took a moment, tossing the wretched paper into a puddle of water "And look where those northerners are now... Gone."

"How quickly descendants turn on each other when the war against 'gods' is reprieved." Ezyl mumbles, tone bitter, upon hearing of the captain and the Ferrymen's fight. "Peace in our lifetime, they claimed, in the last war before my birth but now look..." The paladin's brow furrows, recalling the story of her sister, how her brother had recounted it to her all that time ago. "Oren has no high ground, having tortured and maimed children within its walls as well." She'd decide at long last with a sigh, "No one does." She'd add as an after thought, quietly brushing Lucy's coat free of the thick debris that still clung to the dog from their last journey into the wooded lands outside of Haense. "Except those who follow the SUNLIT path and the SUNLIT path alone."
