The High Sea Scallywags

Those who live on the coast are too familiar and no doubt weary of piracy -- an activity that had all but been eradicated by the diligent patrols of the Orenian navy, save for some of the more notorious crews that roamed the seas and harried misfortuned villages.

 

Sailors and merchantmen alike had seen a new crew join the fray, and these rumblings travelled far and wide. They were just as eager to take a slice of this most lucrative of trades. The global economy was weak -- labour was cheap, resources abundant, goods produced cheaply in sweatshops, minas difficult to come by except for those of the landed classes, and remittance formed the basis of most peoples’ scant wealth. Meanwhile, parasitic landlords skimmed off the wealth of their constituents in the form of heavy taxes and got fat from their revelry, whilst the common folk were left by the wayside.

 

No more, said the good Captain Fishbref’Raguk! No more would his kin, and those of all races who shared his ethos be subjected to a hand-to-mouth existence. 

 

They too would grow fat on their profits, and the rich would suffer.
