Have you ever wanted to make paintings in Minecraft books? No? I applaud your sanity.

 

Minecraft book and quills allow for colored text in them, making the us of the § character. This character, followed by the color code, will give the characters following it said color.

 

Combined with signs like █, you can make pixel art in books. The maximum size for this, currently, is 12 (width) by 14 (height) per page.

 

In order to make planning things out a little easier, I made a small web app. It doesn't work well, and the code is terrible, but it does what it's supposed to do.

It does, however, require a little guide: After you've painted the top canvas with the pixel art you like, you should copy the grid at the bottom into the book. You'll notice that at this point, everything will still be black. You will have to copy an individual § sign and paste it, typing the color code (1 - f) manually. You'll be able to do this even though the lines of your book seem to be full. There seems to be no other way to do this in vanilla Minecraft, although if anyone is aware of any other way, send me a PM on discord (Nick#2014) and I'll try to incorporate it into the app or this guide.

 

The source code for the app lives at https://github.com/polysemic-mc/Book-Paintings and is absolutely the worst. I'll rewrite it somewhere in the coming days.
