Shattered Memories

A simple rose lie within the Elysian Gardens. It's beautiful red petals stretched up high in the air and butterflies constantly visited it. While it had thorns, they never pricked anyone for the flower thought itself too kind to harm. Near it, on the grass, a sleeping visage lie with lips showing peace as he slept. Such a visage was green like the plant's own stem and above it, the young man's hair was made of the same petals as the rose. A dream befell he who slept.

Awoken outside a tavern, the plant sat up and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. Standing before him was the small figure of a halfling. Such a memory was dear to him and he could tell the halfling spoke. though he heard not the words that escaped them. While he couldn't see their face, he could remember who they were to him, how dear he'd held them to his heart.

Upon a wall, he sat, gazing at the trees scattered below. Sakuras spread out across the lands and he could see a woman standing amongst them, a face he knew all too well. It was one that brought him happiness, a friend. To the side his head did turn, gazing upon a figure that sat next to him, one he saw vividly. He was never sure what to think of the woman who sat at his side. Their hair was green and their skin orange like a pumpkin, a ring of roots around their head. Close was he to the two.

Within the great city of Elysium, he lie, staring up at the sky above him. A pale face with a single eye looked over him, staring down at his form. His hand waved to the woman before she passed by, on her way to do who knows what. His heart stung for he knew the kindness she brought him. A sword's protection to keep he and his flora safe from those wishing to destroy it.

Sweets fell next to the man as he remained next to the fountain he so loved to sit by. A woman with red hair walked around and patted his back, encouraging him to eat the sweet delights. So he did, consuming the morsels of sweetness that contrasted his daily diet of herbs.

Such was his life most days, a world of calm collection that his mind would give him. It fed him not the terrors for when something bad happened, his mind simply blocked it out. Though, terrors did seep through the cracks of his mental barrier, plaguing him with distain and discomfort. The memories he dreamed of started to turn black as he forgot more and more of his life. People's faces faded away and the background collapsed into an empty void.

His hand reached out to grab what little he could manage, but it was too late. He fell to his knees as only slivered remained around him, some of the best and worst memories being there, but not complete. In the back of  his mind, he knew this wasn't the first time, but it was too late. He couldn't stop it. He couldn't save the shattered memories.

Birds chirped as his eyes blinked open to a new sun. Rose petals flew around him in a slow breeze as his hand lifted up, but it was smaller then before. His head tilted to the side to look at the flower he once held close to himself and it too was small, barely a stem sticking out of the earth. There was no confusion in his head for this is all he knew. A light smile formed upon the rose's visage as his eyes closed once more, letting him drift off in a new world.
