To the citizens of The Holy Orenian Empire,

When I took up the office of the Archchancellor twelve years ago we were under direct threat from an invasion of the Tripartite Pact, despite our initial losses the citizens of the Empire marched south and took back what was stolen from us, to share the field of battle with the men and women of the Empire, to defend our homeland will forever remain one of the greatest honours of my life. The price paid by all in the defense of our nation remains high. For each man and woman who fell in service to the Empire I have kept the notice of their death, at first it began as a drawer within my desk, then a pile atop it, and finally a monument that formed within the corner of my office, thousands of names of all walks of life who came together for a single purpose, to defend their homeland from aggressors. I will carry the names of those brave souls for the rest of my life, a constant reminder of the weight of the office, and so too shall I carry the missives to my estate.

To be born a d’Azor is to know service, be it within the Imperial State Army, The Imperial Government, businesses throughout the Empire or the palace courts. My father Ledicort d’Azor instilled within me a duty to serve, while we may have not seen eye to eye on all accounts, one thing my father spoke remained true, the Archchancellor is a post to which there is no thanks, and no reward. One who serves cares for neither anyhow. I look around me now and I see a new generation, just as those before looked to the future, so too now do we. The fixtures of government may change, but the vision of a Holy Orenian Empire remains constant.

It is with that belief, that I hereby announce my retirement, as Archchancellor of The Holy Orenian Empire.

I have faith in the future, as I have faith in you, my fellow citizens, that we shall see any battle forced upon us to conclusion, any national task to completion, and any enemy that stands before us to rout. One of the greatest decisions in my life was to stand behind Philip The Great and Anastasia I, in the throneroom of San Luciano that day, and I truly believe that the lives of all Orenians are the better for it.

I shall still serve now even as I depart my post as Archchancellor, and I urge all Orenians to do the same. Our future is bright, and it is ours together.

God, Empire, Family. In that order.

Yours faithfully and sincerely,

His Imperial Excellency, the Archchancellor, Joseph Ledicort d’Azor, Duke of Azor

((It's been a blast everyone, being Archchancellor was one helluva ride, I remember back in 2016 I was out in the Krajjan wastes with the gold corps PVPing for eight hours a day and when we got back to Carnatia Eddywilson and Ark told me in teamspeak “Taketheshot you are going to be a leader in the Empire one day.” I told them that they were dumb and I was just a sword swinger, but now look at me, I guess they were right…

The role of Archchancellor is a seriously taxing one, I'm sure all the former AC’s are nodding their heads in firm agreement on this one and now I can look back to the next AC with the same nod. Nect and Eryane, thank you so much for the opportunity to help lead and build the community. To my fellow Orenians, I loved being your AC even if I got headaches sometimes, but it's time for me to step aside and let someone else have a crack at it. I shall… be around. Ave Orenia friends.

Lydia sharpens her blade. There was Azor blood to be paid.

"High in the halls..." She'd hum softly, thinking only of her dear sister in law, a good friend, and the trauma she had suffered through the dramatics of the court.

"That was quite a stunt at court... Poor Lady Basrid, she doesn't deserve this." Remarked the Count of Aldersberg, a small frown. "All goes to show I suppose..."

The Lord Palatine began to weep, "I'm going to miss him!" He proclaimed, going to miss their back and forth letters.

Tylos II muttered a prayer for the d'Azor in question upon hearing of his retirement.

The humble ambassador puffed his pipe while reading this missive, tendrils of smoke escaping his nose. He reclined in his chair as he set his feet up onto his desk, one leg crossed over the other.

“Interesting timing, that was, resigning and departing right before the assassination attempt. And after the glorious stunt his daughter pulled. Hmm, hmm, hmm.” Garith paused. “I should pen a letter.” And the ambassador did just that.

The ever grumpy and ever hateful Maria de Rosius read the missive and snickered.

"HA! FINALLY! I CAN CALL HIM AN ASS WITHOUT IT BEING CONSIDERED TREASONOUS!" She exclaimed victoriously in the streets of Providence before she realized she was in public, awkwardly clearing her throat and shuffling off to some remote area near the elves' district.

"Despite my political disagreements with his policies I have to admit that His Imperial Excellency Josep d'Azor has done a good job as Imperial Archchancellor. Well done, friend, I am proud of the man you have become. I guess that now that you are retiring you will not seek to join the Ministry of Justice as an Inspector as I insisted you to do when you were younger many decades ago." said the old Charles, laughing aloud, before realizing that he was telling all this to his nurse and not to the Duke of Azor.
