Franczhiz 4084 Share Posted August 27, 2022 Spoiler HOUSE OF GODUNOV “As a Godunov, you must be determined to fight for your family and your closest comrades.” - Ratibor Vladimirovich Godunov to his two sons; Sviatoslav and Jaroslav Godunov. - INTRODUCTION The House of Godunov; a House that originally came from a Raevir traveler background where they travelled into the north. Their way of life is based on survival and their skill in combat. Having served their time as mercenaries in the past; they are now dutiful soldiers serving in the Northern Commando Unit of Saint Karl. They live by a code to never betray those who they serve alongside with; and to only die in battle without surrendering themselves to the enemy. The House of Godunov teaches the people who become a part of their unit the very same things that the brothers themselves have learnt in their youth. Every Godunov is born to join the Northern Commando Unit. TIES TO RELIGION: A STRICT CHILDHOOD Within the House of Godunov, as children a strict code applies; to serve their family with the utmost determination of giving a good name to the family itself. It was often said that if one of the Godunovs was without a father; that God, the creator and thus their spiritual father would look after them through the zealous faith that they show in protection of their fellow laity. The Godunovs were taught at an early age to distance themselves from heretics and those who openly sin in the eyes of God and the Church. Whereas if it ever happened that a heretic began to defile a place of God; much like a Church or altar; the Godunovs often took care of such matters by themselves. It was often said that religion and combat are incompatible; for the Godunovs however, it was and still is compatible; while adhering to the Canonist laws. In their adult years, they continued to follow the beliefs of their father and used it as a reminder to never betray their own family nor the men who they lead into battle. THE NORTHERN COMMANDO UNIT: HOW IT STARTED The Northern Commando Unit was formed by the brothers Sviatoslav, Jaroslav and Vadim Godunov. The unit itself focuses on the specializations of combat, survival, hunting and very many other things that are required to survive in the far north. It was through many travels and many acquaintances that now the Northern Commando Unit has formed itself. Each individual who had joined got taught the same as how the sons of Ratibor Vladimirovich Godunov were taught by their father. Some of these lessons would be more psychological then practical; such as: “Show your Canonist brethren mercy when they have wronged you; but should a heretic ever dare to harm the beliefs of you and your forebears, you must make certain that they shall never do it ever again.” - Ratibor Vladimirovich Godunov. The Northern Commando Unit have joined the Brotherhood of Saint Karl and serve as zealous Canonists within its army. They adhere to the legislation that is passed through the duma, they serve God and the Church and they serve their sovereign. FAMILY TRADITIONS Velikaya Duel Whenever a Godunov comes of age; they are challenged to duel with one of their older relatives. This involves hand to hand combat. Symbolically; if they win the fight against their older relatives this means that they have become a man. And when the man who comes of age is proclaimed as victorious; a grand feast is held. Bol’shoy Prazdnik “The Great Celebration” is a celebration held by the family and the Northern Commando Unit to mark their anniversary as a brotherhood. The celebration comes with a long time dedicated to prayer, feast, music and a travel across all the Canonist dioceses. Most would call such a travel a pilgrimage; for the family and the brotherhood however, it symbolizes protection; in the sense of protection for all the Canonists who make their way into the north.
