How did we meet?

In Adelburg, if I recall correctly! Your character refused to speak Common, and greatly frustrated both of my chars who had interacted with her. Alstreim's company doctor, the plague mask-wearing Adunian, however took a liking to her. The strangest thing is that a very similar situation played out in Sutica roughly a year later, with an entirely different person.

How do you feel lotc culture has changed in the five years you've been here? And a more boring question but more to your experience…what should we be doing (or not doing) to make friendships and connecting diverse communities easy and natural?

For one, I think OOC is a lot more entrenched than it used to be back in the day. Though there had been notorious cliques around the time I joined and even before my time, now it feels as if entire communities reside in their own bubbles, largely thanks to the rise of Discord. Not everything about its advent has been a bad thing, however: it's been a valuable tool for keeping newcomers engaged in communities and fostering cooperation on matters such as lore posts.

I think there's also a sense of lost wonder: many of the unique magics and player creatures dating from the time I joined have since been removed, and general fantasy RP, especially the human-friendly parts of it, has become less common as a result. As a trade-off, the quality of builds, skins, and player lore has improved greatly, and it's much more common for even startup groups to gain access to quality resources of that sort.

It's far from a boring question; in fact, I've had to give it a lot of thought before responding and even now I feel my response would be inadequate. It's a pervasive issue that I admit is hard to remedy. I'd start with a staff effort (aided by non-staff volunteers) to make the shared, cooperative story of LotC more cohesive through promoting knowledge of shared history and joint player efforts. I think the various communities that make up LotC would be far more inclined to cooperate if 1) their stories were promoted; and 2) they felt their RP made a positive difference among other groups, and other groups' RP impacted their story in turn.
