A Requested Mediation of the War in Petra

The 17th of Horen's Calling, 1909

To the Archducal Sovereigns of Petra,

My name is Father Victor of Blackwater. Although I am not of Petran birth, it is I who tends to the Chapel of Saint Emma of Woldzmir, and it is I who has administered the faith to many of the Petra, even in these trying times of dispute between Church and Crown. Seeing the safety and prosperity of the bountiful Petra be put to risk aches my heart, for I have grown to love this land as my own. I know it is a futile effort to try and prevent the outbreak of war, although I would be willing to mediate any negotiations should they, in good fortune and judgement by the Archducal Sovereigns, arise. Instead, I shall focus my efforts solely on the faith of our community and the protection of the church, so that it may remain a safe refuge for those wishing to escape the perils of war.

I propose to the Archducal Sovereigns of Petra these terms for both parties to agree to in this time of civil strife:

I) The Chapel of Saint Emma of Woldzmir shall go untouched during war, and not be a site of attack, nor be used as a place of military operation.

II) The Chapel of Saint Emma of Woldzmir shall remain a refuge for those wishing to flee from the horrors of war, and their right to take shelter in the Temple of God shall be respected.

III) Children and all other professed noncombatants shall go unharmed, even if they wish to remain within Petra during this time of civil strife.

IV) All Petrans, no matter their inclinations on this strife, shall be allowed to accept Mass, Holy Communion, be baptized, wed, and receive all other ceremonies of the church within the Chapel of Saint Emma of Woldzmir.

V) Bloodshed shall be averted when possible. The rights of surrender and captivity, as seen under the chivalric code, shall be respected among all combatants.

“This is absolutely acceptable, and necessary. The Church has been a friend in these trying times. Thank you, Father.” Constanz writes back.

"Well, sure. I would not obstruct this." Renilde murmured, scribbling a formal response to Father Blackwater hastily.

“May the children of the Commonwealth not suffer the tragic fate of their Heartlander forefathers….empty tables and orphaned” Heinrik Sarkozic muttered as he ordered two caravans of food, clothing, and various tools to be sent to the Chapel of St. Emma posthaste.

"Civil Var during the Empire, Civil Var during the Kingdom, Civil Var during the Commonvealth... Yam getting too old for this." A Kortrevich poet sighed softly as he looked on from a nation close to the border. "Bless us vith vyr holy sight, O' Godan above."

“Good work by the young Priest,” commented the elder Cardinal with a satisfied nod, surprised by the sudden internal conflict of the River Petra - alas; the Cardinal returned to his studies.
