Description

Over-view:

This windmills would stand 25 meters tall with 4 blades connected to a central post. The blades would spin upon impact of wind and would activate a mechanism inside the structure.

Dimensions:

Spoiler

!!A meter is one block in game!!

This wind mill would be over-all 25 meters tall, with the structure being 20 meters tall and the roof being 5 meters tall. The base of the structure would be 8 meters in diameter while the top of the structure would be 6 meters in diameter. There would be 4 pillars standing 23 meters tall, however the first 3 meters would be built underground to serve as extra support. The pillars would be 2 by 2 meters in thickness, each pillar 4 meters apart from the other. On the roof would house the central post, measuring at 5 meters in diameter, every three meters would hold a blade. The blades of the windmill would be 15 meters long over all, the first 5 meters being to extend away from the structure while the other 10 will be the blade itself, the 10 meters being 3 meters wide.

Materials and building details:

The structure would be made out of a strong stone, while the roof would have brick. The support pillars would be made out of wood (preferably oak or spruce) and built in the structure, the pillars being able to seen from the inside and outside of the structure. There would be double doors for the entrance inside the windmill, as well as two windows (one at 5 meters and one at 10 meters, both being 3 meters tall and 2 meters wide.) Iron would be used on the 10 meter part of the blade, used to create a grid like structure on one meter while the other 2 meters would be made from a strong and thick wool/fabric. The Structuire would have the mechanism in the middle while stairs would circle around the inside walls of the windmill, leading all the way to a platform at the top of the tower, which gives access to the roof and fan mechanics. On the top of the roof would be a bright orange and white striped cylinder flag on a 5 meter pole, attached by using a wire running across the face/opening of the flag over the pole. The flag, when hit by the wind, will fly in the direction the wind is blowing.

Function:

When the wind hits the blades, the blades will start rotating clock-wise as well as the centeral post. When 10 m/s is reached, the mechanism starts working inside the windmill. The centeral post is connected to a large break wheel, which then ineteracts with the wallower (gear system) when movement is present. The wallower then rotates a centeral vertical shaft, creating a motion that can be used for water pumping, griding, or powering certain machines.

Capabilities:

The first capability of the wind mill is its weather prediction. Thanks to its blades, upon looking at the windmill one can see how fast the blades are moving, communicating how fast the winds are moving. The speed can determine weather a storm is incoming, giving people a warning to seek to shealter.

The second capability is the direction of wind. Thanks to the flag on the top of the roof, people will be able to determine which way the wind is blowing. This is especially useful for nations near seas as it can help with the sailing of boats and ocean tides.

The third capability is providing machine power. The up and down motion from the shaft has energy to help run a machine with out any manual labour. This can create a more efficient work flow for certain jobs fufilled by these machines.

Red lines/Restrictions:

The first restriction is cost. The windmill is a very costly structure due to its size and materials needed. This makes it hard for the windmill to be widely built for everyone to use, only allowing ones who have the money to have this structure built.

The second restriction is construction. Due to its height, size, and mechanics, the windmill is a very lenghtly and complicated/dangerous build. One wrong move and someone can fall of the structure, resulting in injury or even death. It can take up to years for a windmill to be fully constructed and can take months to repair.

The third restriction is the structure its self. Even when constructed carefully, the windmill can still fall over and cause mass destructtions to homes. Not only that, repairs for the windmill can be costly and tedious, making the windmill hard to repair when broken.

The fourth restriction is limited machine operations. Only certain machines tailored to work with the windmill can be powered by it. The windmill also faces the need of constant winds to power the machines since without wind, the structure is practically useless.

Spoiler

This invention needs regulation via applications.

Purpose (OOC)

I was honestly so surpirsed when I learned that windmills were not invented yet, so I decided to make them. This invention will help lotc buy adding a new energy source and new efficiency with machinery :D.

I would be surprised if windmills where against tech lock considering the come from like before year 1000

"Now look, your grace, what you see over there aren’t giants, but windmills, and what seems to be arms are just their sails, that go around in the wind and turn the millstone."

Looks pretty cool, but I think windmills kind of already exist on the server.

This lore has been denied.

Great first loresub! However, Windmills are indeed invented, and have been in multiple server builds for the last few years. I'm unsure where you saw that it wasn't possible to do, but let me know @squak where you might've read that; or if by word of mouth, feel free to always ask in Story Discord here.
