Magic Lore - Void Cultivation

The internal Void Circuit had previously been developed by elven artisans centuries ago in order to account for a lack of strength and stamina for purposes of crafting enchanted items. However, further development of this technique and integration has led to a number of differentiated benefits and side effects to the skill. Those who have created an internalised Void Circuit are referred to as Void Cultivators as the field of study and progression later became.

Elven Artisans have long been known for their exquisite craftsmanship and artistic talent, weaving delicate tapestries, carving intricate sculptures and crafting beautiful jewellery. However, their talents extended beyond the realms of the physical arts as they sought to unlock the secrets of Void Magic in a way that was conducive with their craft. It was during a golden age of prosperity, where peace and prosperity aligned that an ambitious group of artisans and scholars set about overcoming some of the weaknesses of void magic and creating strengths in its place, bottling it up within an individual so that they might infuse their very body and muscles with power. At first, the elven artisans struggled to comprehend and control this newfound magic. The void energy proved volatile, resisting their attempts to tame it, wreaking havoc on their minds and emotions. But they persisted, experimenting with different techniques of mediation, control and understanding. Overtime they began mapping out internal circuits that better harnessed the void and reduced the risk to one’s body and soul.

At a level of mastery the primary effect of Internalising one's void circuit is that very little void energy escapes from the body of the caster and they actively absorb void essence from the surroundings, soaking it up like a sponge, thus, it is considered to not be environmentally damaging. This internalisation of the void essence causes one's organs, tissues and bones to be exposed to very high concentrations of controlled void essence for extended periods of time, which carries a greater risk of mutation but with the teachings of this technique and alchemical stabilisation, several benefits to one's physicality - and likewise downsides and disadvantages.

Much like many magic branches, there are tiers to the art of Internalising a Void Circuit. In this instance, there are five tiers and entering each one requires both a dedicated period of study and accumulation then expenditure of resources.

Magic Explanation

A void cultivator is guided through the process of internalising and trapping their void essence after creating an anchor inside them with the use of careful control techniques and specialised enchantments. They will be unable to expend this essence in any great amount and will constantly draw in essence from their surroundings and the void itself. Eventually they reach a point in which their body starts using void essence to fuel itself, or they summarily perish from over saturation or mutation. This assuming that they do not die undergoing the rituals and Ecriture construction of their circuit and cores.

Around their formed cores are intricate enchantments called Void Ecritures, used to facilitate the energy of the void essence infused in metaphysical locations formed within their body towards beneficial ends.

A practitioner of void cultivation will eventually infuse their body with so much void essence that they are almost as much void essence as they are flesh and blood. Provided that they do not lose themselves in this, they will become far more influenced by the void physically and without proper willpower, mentally as well. A cultivator's organs may become more and more redundant as they progress, needing to eat and sleep less as time goes on as the cultivator sustains themself on the void essence flowing through them. Whilst a cultivator will still bleed out or die if attacked, they are more likely to survive if not finished off as the functions of major organs are partially replaced by the cores they have developed. A void cultivator should avoid strenuous activity or meditate in order to replenish lost energy - though they can also absorb void energy from ambient sources or items.

Origin Void-Core Ecriture Ritual

Spoiler

Cost: Alchemical Concoction (Strength x10, Peace x10, Life x10, Water x1, Earth x1, Fire x1, Air x1, Aether x1)

A language close to the roots of the Cultivator should be chosen, at which point their teacher should write in said script upon the Cultivators body; forming protective ecriture to contain the void within them and prevent its escape. The cultivator must perform the rest of the ritual on their own. The cultivator must create a void anchor within themselves, raw and unfettered they must tie this connection of void into their very being and lock it in place. Unable to escape, they will be filled with painful and damaging energies. In order to survive, a concoction of herbs should be created in advance. These herbs not only allow the body to repair and heal itself under such scrutiny of the void, but also enhance their connection and tether their system to the void and the soon-to-be internalised void circuit.

Equivolent to being thrown into the ocean and expected to swim, this ritual is very much a swim or drown situation. The cultivator must remain conscious at all costs, as if they fall unconscious from the pain they shall perish.

/roll 1d20 (If you roll 9 or below, the character falls unconscious and dies)

The master presiding over this ritual can sacrifice their health in order to ensure a student does not perish at this stage, forcing the success at the cost of great weakness for 2 Elven weeks.

The ritual is considered finished when the student is capable of maintaining a flow of void throughout their entire being even when they’re no longer concentrating. It should be noted that the flow will be clogged and interrupted with impurities and inefficiencies at this stage.

Root Ecriture Ritual

Spoiler

Cost:

  • Alchemical Concoction (Rigidity x10, Peace x4, Clarity x4, Water x1, Earth x1, Fire x1, Air x1, Aether x1)

  • Large Ruby

An imbalance in this core while forming or at any point in one’s cultivation can result in the following being enhanced, reduced or otherwise; Fight-or-flight function, nurturing characteristics, self-sufficiency and responsibility, aggression, anger, violence and jealousy. Lacking energy or a leaking of life-force.

The cultivator must begin by meditating with a ruby for as long as it takes to reach enlightenment. Keeping the ruby close to them each night, they must meditate on their survival instincts, their security and internal stability.

Finally, prior to the ritual attempt they must place the stone in a ritual bowl. Filling the bowl with water, they drip several drops of their blood into the water infused with void essence and immediately set out to boil the water, placing the necessary herbs within. The stone will begin to melt under the effects of the void essence and heat, combining with the water and ingredients. The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

The cultivator must focus their void essence into the base of their spine, where the perineum can be found. Taking deep breaths they must visualise their very inhalations penetrating down through their body to the base of their spine, pushing the lingering passive void essence aside to create an imbalance that the void essence more eagerly wishes to fill. Essentially creating a high concentration gradient. With each breath they must draw more and more energy in towards that location. They should visualise their body connected to the ground. Visualising the void essence coagulating and being compressed in on itself as though forming a sphere. Once a sizeable amount of void essence has crystallised in place, the ritual is complete. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

Due to an imbalance in energies and not-yet perfect seal from the rest of the world, the user must perform this within a ritual circle using pre-prepared alchemical items and a large pure ruby. (OOC Note: It is recommended that the master plan a player event to gather resources such as these stones, or provide entertaining trials).

The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

The cultivator should close their eyes and breathe deeply, focussing their void essence into the pit of their stomach. The foundation of their control over void essence should be gained from performing the Root Origin Core formation, thus this should be far easier. Maintaining their breath they should push more and more void essence into a condensed ball. The ritual will fail if the user has any imbalances in their mind. They must embody strength, resilience and an upright spirit, lest the void essence snap free and wreak havoc within their body. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

/roll 1d20, a 5 or lower is a critical failure in the core formation, resulting in backlash. For one OOC week the user will suffer the effects of void crippling.

  • Large Topaz, Amber or Citrine stone

An imbalance in this core while forming or at any point in one’s cultivation can result in the following being enhanced, reduced or otherwise; The cultivator could become bloated or lose/gain a lot of weight. Confidence, creativity and courageousness could be affected as well as self-worth, a desire for power and selfishness. Neediness, approval seeking and feeling unempowered.

The cultivator must begin by meditating with a Topaz, Amber or Citrine Stone for as long as it takes to reach enlightenment. Keeping the stone close to them each night they must meditate on the aforementioned emotions and feelings.

Finally, prior to the ritual attempt, they must place the stone in a ritual bowl. Filling the bowl with water, they drip several drops of their blood into the water infused with void essence and immediately set out to boil the water, placing the necessary herbs within. The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

To form a Solar Origin Core, the cultivator must pool their energy into the very center of their abdomen. It helps to visualise this as a large globe of energy formin, radiating energy into the entire abdomen before crystallisation. The cultivator must maintain deep breaths, feeling the warmth of their radiating energy filling ever dark corner of their body before snapping back into one solid sphere within. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

Heart Ecriture Ritual

  • Large Rose Quartz, Diamond or Peridot

An imbalance in this core while forming or at any point in one’s cultivation can result in the following being enhanced, reduced or otherwise; Feelings of love and compassion, health and immunity to disease, generosity, openness and goodwill. Bound by convention, suppressed or conditional love.

The cultivator must begin by meditating with a Rose Quartz, Diamond or Peridot for as long as it takes to reach enlightenment.

The stone will begin to melt under the effects of the void essence and heat, combining with the water and ingredients. The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

To form a Heart Origin Core, the cultivator must pool their energy into the space opposite or beside the heart, as though creating a second beating entity. Sitting comfortably with their back straight, the cultivator should take several deep breaths and begin to relax. It is important that their blood flow is at its slowest and thus it may be necessary to sit in extreme cold. If the user feels any tension they should attempt to ‘breath into’ that area of the body, visualising their breath and the void essence gently relaxing the area. This is the hardest area of the body to form a core in due to its extreme importance and complexity. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

The cultivator must begin by meditating with a Turquoise, Blue Agate or Aquamarine stone for as long as it takes to reach enlightenment. Keeping the stone close to them each night they must meditate on the aforementioned emotions and feelings.

The stone will begin to melt under the effects of the void essence and heat, combining with the water and ingredients. The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

The cultivator should close their eyes and visualise a prism formed of their aura and essence within their body suspended from their jaw. At this point, providing previous rituals have been performed, they should be capable of forming complex void structures within their body to this extent. As the cultivator holds the image, they must expand the form and intensify the colour, feeling the pyramid seal the void essence within this region of their body. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed and even more so as the shape of the core becomes more intricate, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

The cultivator must first relax before visualising a large star with its points inverted constructed of their aura between their eyes. Expanding the form and intensity the cultivator should meditate on each of the five points of the star, designating each one to a different principle. Wisdom, discernment, intuition, knowledge and imagination. Finally, the caster should crystallise this essence within them, forming the core. The foundations for a void ecriture are formed over the surface of this core the design of which being taught by one's master. This inscription is incredibly detailed, essentially becoming a written enchantment for the void essence infusing the body to flow into and receive direction.

Crown Ecriture Ritual

The stone will begin to melt under the effects of the void essence and heat, combining with the water and ingredients. The cultivator should drink half while still warm, with the remaining half being used to paint the ritual circle.

The cultivator embarks on the final core formation. Whilst it would be amongst the hardest to perform, due to the earlier rituals the cultivator should have formed a strong manipulation of their void essence and aura. The cultivator starts with deep breaths, allowing their consciousness to turn inward. They should focus on their memories and their past life, the events and experiences and emotions attached to each of these. They must access the self, allowing their body to flood with their memories and thoughts, before finally letting them disappear back into this sense of self and consciousness, dragging void essence into a core within their crown, sealed with a complex shape of choice.

The Discipline Ritual

Ultimately the discipline ritual involves the cultivator cracking and grinding their arduously formed cores down into almost nothing. They must manipulate their internal void essence diffused within their body into attacking the hardened shells that have formed almost permanent structures within their bodies. The pain of this ritual is incredible and in worst case scenarios can even lead to death.

Provided the void cultivator has the willpower to survive the process, their body will be left weakened and ravaged by the void essence. However, their body will now be entirely permeated with this essence and the circuit of their body now fully formed. A road has been made, and blockages removed.

Ritual Casting

The cultivator can be taught how to cast their usual spells provided they are not in a combat situation. Attempting to cast spells in active combat will fail due to the higher degrees of concentration require to influence void essence outside of the body. Ritual casting is generally very simple and requires meditation and the controlling of one’s essence along specific pathways in one's body.

Ecriture Enchantment Ritual

Ecriture Enchantment is where a Void Cultivator must remake their cores, choosing just three to form and grow and then layer script atop each for the foundations of their enchantment and thus the controlling of void essence within their body. The core choice decides much about their future capabilities and thus should not be taken lightly. Once decided before one’s master, these cannot be changed.

Void Ecriture Infusion Ritual

The Ritual of Void Ecriture Infusion is where a Void Cultivator cements their progress. Their body is now just as much flesh and bone as it is void essence. This final ritual consists of reaching complete control of their body and mind through meditation and reinforcing their bodies natural essences with rare items or events. The more important the items, the more solid their foundations of cultivation shall be. The cultivator should flood the item and themself with void essence, before finally absorbing it into their core of choice and using this essence to form a final layer of script atop it in the creation of the internalised enchantment and its integration into the circuit.

  • The Cultivator should choose one physical objects of emotional or great value to sacrifice. E.g. Their fathers wedding ring, a rare or legendary potion, the crown of a nation. It is destroyed in the process!

  • The Cultivator should choose one formative IC events that constitute their emotional and mental strength. E.g. Fighting off invaders in a life or death struggle, hunting a great beast that had slain their family, finally being shown care and consideration after a lifetime of struggle and judgement.

Tier 1:

The cultivator must undergo the Void-Origin Ecriture Ritual and survive. In order to progress further they must then perform the Void-Root Ecriture, Void-Sacral Ecriture, Void-Solar Ecriture, Void-Heart Ecriture, Void-Throat Ecriture, Void-Brow Ecriture and Void-Crown Ecriture Core Forming Rituals.

  • As each core is formed the Void Cultivator regains a little strength. Their organs and body will perform better and closer to the peak of their race.

This tier lasts for 2 OOC weeks.

Tier 2:

The cultivator must stress their progress so far, they do this by performing the Discipline Ritual.

  • The Void Cultivator enters a period of great weakness, performing far below the average of their race.

The cultivator can begin growing in true power with a ritual of Lesser Ecriture, cementing it with a Ritual of Void Ecriture Infusion.

This tier lasts for 2 OOC weeks.

Tier 3:

The cultivator must now consolidate their energies and form three core areas to cement their focus; performing the Ecriture Enchantment Ritual.

  • The Void Cultivator’s body now performs at the peak of its race regarding vital functions, organs and physical capability. Their emotions and mind are less easily shaken.

The cultivator can learn how to ritual cast spells out of combat.

This tier lasts for 2 OOC weeks.

Tier 4:

The cultivator imbues one of their cores with a ritual of Greater Ecriture, cementing it with a Void Ecriture Infusion.

This tier lasts for 4 OOC weeks.

Tier 5:

The cultivator imbues one of their cores with a ritual of Perfect Ecriture, cementing it with a Void Ecriture Infusion. At tier 5 a cultivator can teach and guide another through their cultivation process.

Purpose (OOC):

This lore provides a different route of void magic to that which the normal magic and void scion provide. Advised primarily for enchanters/crafters, the user of this lore sacrifices their ability to cast in combat entirely, in exchange for a couple benefits and a couple disadvantages. It also allows for a fair bit of roleplay as opposed to some of the other magic types; as to get any of the advantages you have to /do/ roleplay or gather rare and exotic items or experiences. It’s definitely advised that the teachers of this have the ability to run player events.

Redlines:

  • A Void Cultivator seals their void magic within their body without allowing it to escape, contorting it in complex patterns within their body to enact a certain response. It requires incredible strength of mind and character.

  • Void Cultivation is incompatible with becoming an Arcane Scion.

  • Void Cultivation is taught and all rituals must be learned from an active teacher.

  • Void Cultivation takes 1 slot.

  • Alchemical components used in rituals do not require alchemical knowledge, and are instead more ritualistic or symbolic. One merely needs the herb gathered and boiled in the water, requiring no real preparation beyond that.

This doesn't feel like a voidal magic and reminds me more of something along the likes of Kani, or it being a "Mana" magic along the lines of Housemagery or Bardmancy. Voidal magic deals specifically with casting spells/evoking things from the void and doesn't deal with altering the physical body in the ways mentioned

Minor Edit: Would this require someone to know Alchemy? It's also to be noted that alchemy and magic don't really mix

HOLLLLY SHIITTTT I WANT TO CULTIVATE

it doesnt really make sense tho, at least in terms of the niche its actually fulfilling

Hiya; this is my first submission. I welcome constructive feedback/help! If something doesn't make sense please illuminate this for me so that I can fix it.

Void magic doesn't currently alter the body- because it hasn't been used in that method. This magic submission attemptedly changes that with heavy downsides that even out the strengths. (E.g. Not being able to use magic in combat, not being able to bind with more than 2 enchanted items, not being able to dodge or block void magic attacks). I'll edit it further to expand on the rituals being more like internal enchantments in how they are formed, as that's essentially what the void circuit is meant to be.

The niche it is filling is allowing an enchanter to enchant items and cast utility spells all the way up to T5 out of combat/stressful situations, whilst allowing the user to fight like a normal person or spell sword. The bonus; would be that it's reliant on IC progress, rp and accumulation of wealth/items in order to progress such as the Reinforcement Ritual.

I've edited it to say that it does not rely on Alchemical knowledge, and the herbs are largely ritualistic components.

I really like the idea of cultivation magic and the model you've set up for it, but I will say that it doesn't fit very well into being a Voidal magic since its effects are largely strictly positive and enhancing (regardless of how hard they are to actually obtain) as opposed to the ordinary style of Voidal things wherein even things like Scion which do allow the body's strength back absolutely destroy the mind. Also, to be honest some of the cores seem a bit strong, such as the one that is capable of increasing strength beyond racial peak. It also feels more like a feat than a magic. It seems to me like the best use of this magic would be simply taking it on its own without any other voidal magics, which doesn't feel to good (if we want it to be a voidal magic)

Generally although cultivation is cool, allowing extremely strong final strengths of lore just because they are hard to attain is generally disastrous. People will obtain the highest level and be OP. Honestly I would encourage writing this as a non-Voidal magic and trying to theme it that way and see if that helps the balance things- if you want to keep it Voidal, I would recommend sticking with the cultivation idea but scrapping the concept of purely strengthening the body and try to make it something that augments casting or the connection, while keeping in mind not to allow too great of strengths just because they are hard to obtain.
