King Andrzej in the Battle of the Silver Mountains

Months had passed since the declaration of war by Lord Rogar of Henrik’s Holdout. Skirmishes between Native Cahirians and Rozanians had broken out all along the rural towns and villages, plunging the countryside into chaotic war. Hundreds were dead already, and thousands more would die before this war was over.

King Andrzej of Cahir could not stand the insolent raiding of his territory anymore. Lord Rogar’s forces had amassed on the border to prepare for a proper invasion of the Cahirian Crownlands, and King Andrzej would not stand idly by and allow his seat of New Roza to be besieged. The King, a man aged 71 years, had declared that he would personally lead his army to the bewilderment of his advisors. He commanded his Sons to remain in New Roza while he rode out to meet the Native Cahirian host.

Within a month the Army had been fully mustered. The King paraded his army through the streets of New Roza before finally setting out to seek Lord Rogar’s host. The Rozanian host marched for days before scouts finally reported on the movement of their enemy. Lord Rogar’s host had amassed at the base of the Silver Mountains, and it was clear that the Army had moved into formation in anticipation of battle.

The Rozanian and Cahirian hosts lined up on opposite sides of a wide field at the base of the mountains. After a brief parlay between Lord Rogar and King Andrzej, in which Lord Rogar spat upon King Andrzej’s horse, the two leaders rode back to their formations determined to do battle. Both lines began their advance whilst Archers loosened their arrows upon their foes. When the lines joined, the crash of steel and the screams of men was enough to make a battle-hardened warrior’s blood shiver.

The Battle soon found itself in a deadlock, with neither army’s infantry capable of outdoing the other. King Andrzej, allowing his impatience to engulf him, rode his personal bodyguard around the enemy flank and charged into the rear of the Cahirian formation. While at first this seemed to turn the tide, King Andrzej was oblivious to the trap he had found himself in. The sound of a warhorn bellowed from behind the King’s bodyguard, and in the distance he saw the personal banners of Lord Rogar’s cavalry. The Cahirian cavalry smashed into King Andrzej’s bodyguard, and the King found himself encircled.

The fighting continued for many hours more, yet at last the Rozanian commanders were forced to call a general withdrawal after not having heard from King Andrzej since his encirclement. Rozanian forces withdrew, and Lord Rogar’s men cheered with great pride and joy. The first Cahirian victory in the field over Rozanian forces had finally been achieved after decades of Rozanian dominance. When the dust cleared, Lord Rogar spotted the standard of the King on the floor. Lord Rogar dismounted and approached, and finally he saw the fallen body of King Andrzej. Lord Rogar took a moment to take in the sight and re-mounted his horse. He ordered the body of the King to be mutilated and burned before ordering his army to re-assemble.

"The only good rozanian, is a dead one." comments a random redclyfian as they heard the story from strangers around a campfire after a long day of traveling
