TO THE PEOPLE OF THE PETRA,

Under Article IV, Chapter I of our Commonwealth’s constitution, the succession to the Throne of Garmont is selective by nature. Each reigning Sovereign is to legally designate their successor, and it is through this instrument that I seek to do so.

With the passing of my beloved daughter and previous heir, the Archduchess of Vallagne, Winifred Adalia, I must now officially declare who shall take the mantle when the time comes for my own reign’s conclusion. Within the Constitution of the Commonwealth, the Salvian Inheritance directs that the heir may be chosen by the reigning Sovereign and that it shall be their duty to designate their successor from amongst the direct bloodline of Paul Salvian. Originally having chosen my daughter, Princess Winifred, I have decided that it is only appropriate for the inheritance of my father’s land and titles to follow down the line that our former Archduchess of Vallagne had left behind.

Therefore, I hereby declare that Princess Catherine Arabella of the Petra [@Zaerie], my granddaughter, be officially named as the heir to the Commonwealth of the Petra. Her mother’s title, that of the title to the heir of the Throne of Garmont, the Archduchy of Vallagne, shall also thus be bestowed upon her. May the young Princess grow under the guidance of myself, the River Council, the Church, and those of the Petra.

BY MY CROWN AND FOR MY PEOPLE,

Her Majesty, RENILDE I Queen of the Commonwealth of the Petra

Spoiler

The young Princess Catherine, after answering her first petitions and standing up on the dais at court, finally might've realized what's going on a little more. Catriona, as she is being called through her childhood, would hold up a little felt living doll she had named Dame Winifred, assuming that it moves through the spirit of her dead mother. Looking into its eyes, she would ask the mute doll she believed to be her mother a singular question.

"Will I make you proud?"

Valentin Mareno peered down upon the Commonwealth from above, forever resting in the vast bounty of the seven skies. A deep sigh escaped the aged mercenary, a certain depressive twinge lingering in his voice.

"I'm so sorry, Paul."

Dame Catherine of Furnestock, first Chancellor of the Commonwealth and namesake of the child, looked down from the Seven Skies with both fondness and approval.

"I do hope she does well, when her time comes," She remarked to the girl's also deceased mother. "I am sure that she will, in truth."

== === == === ==

The girl's deceased mother, Princess Winifred, shed a relieved tear in those same Seven Skies. Her final request had been honored.

She was happy that her mother had seen fit for her daughter to be the one to inherit the Throne of Garmont, and continued to watch over her from the afterlife.

"IDC," proclaimed Penultimate Paul, Sailor the Ferrymen, from his abode within the Seven Skies. It was then that Emperor Bartholomew Derfey played his harp, proclaiming to the Heavens for all to see the sad tale of the Republic of the Petra, done away to become an Aaunite piastdom of no consequence whatsoever, inhabited only by snakes and troglodytes who aspire to lick the boots of foreign dignitaries for the slightest smidge of clout.

The Margrave of Stassion who dwelled just beyond the borders of the Commonwealth nodded some at the missive, he looked to his daughter Aurelia, "Seems you cousin, my niece, is to be inheriting an entire kingdom, good for them." @Eryane

"An entire kingdom?" repeated Aurelia, gazing up to her father as he had relayed the information to her. "That seems impossible to inherit all of that," she muttered to herself and the doll she held tight in her hands.
