Sir Laurens ‘the Unwavering’ Henri of the House of Halcourt

 

The history of the leal House of Halcourt in the Commonwealth of the Petra extends to its creation, with the ancient House bearing the title to the Barony of Artois of the formerly glorious Old Règime as a Founding House; with the Baron offering land to the then Regent, later Archduke, Paul ‘Fairweather’ Salvian for the Knightly Republic out of the ashes of the Harvest Confederacy.

 

A tale as old as time — We Halcourt’s have fought with strength against forces that would have wished to conquer the House of the Petra, the Sir Laurens himself having been Baron of Artois and Marshal of the Commonwealth as a Renildene Loyalist during the Petran Civil War before serving as the Viceregent to the Throne of Garmont as the Chancellor of the Petrans for three decades. The Sir, later Holy Father, Bernard, cousin of Sir Laurens, a man of high accolade as well, did much for the River Petra’s flourishment. So, too, did the Baron Emeritus Sir Yves Olivier and his wife the Baronne Emeritus Dame Justine Margaux; Sir Victor Olivier also served as the Lord Chamberlain of the Petra for many years.

 

This is not a missive for recalling the remarkable contributions that have been made by many faithful members of the House of Halcourt over this long course, but rather a rebuking of misdeeds that We as a people have suffered.

 

The Crown of Saint Emma has refused any contact or collaboration with the Halcourt dynasty through communication with the Sir Laurens since the mistreatment of our House took place. We are patient folk, but We feel as if patience has not been permitted to us. The love and respect we have held for the Petra has been refused and ill-returned. 

 

Following the call for an emergency Moot held in La Dorada, Hyspia, the high-borne Halcourt’s have agreed with regards to a resolution.

WHEREAS, the House of Halcourt amicably severs ties with the Commonwealth of the Petra, returning their holding of Nouifelle Valenstrata to the Crown

 

WHEREAS, the House of Halcourt and all of its members save for those that have made it otherwise known, renounce all oaths and allegiances to the Commonwealth of the Petra, forsaking any current positions, as well as the revocation of fealty to the House of the Petra

 

WHEREAS the House of Halcourt shall migrate to the Viceroyalty of Hyspia, their fealty shall henceforth be sworn to the Viceroyalty and its rightful Prince, Cesar II of the House de Pelear

 

WHEREAS, the Viceroyalty of Hyspia officially recognizes and protects the ancestral title of the Barony of Artois and allows the patenting for the creation of the landed Barony du (of the) Campagnon paired with an appropriately sized holding attached, for the House of Halcourt to inhabit

 

WHEREAS, any Knight of the House of Halcourt retains the right to petition for integration into the ranks of the Knights of Hyspia after a review of the Chivalric efforts they have made throughout their lives

 

WHEREAS, to further assist the Viceroyalty, the Sir Laurens has been appointed to be the Canciller de la Patria on the Viceroyal Council of Cesar II.

 

This was not a decision lightly made, as anyone who knew the relationship that the House of Halcourt held for decades with the Throne of Garmont, knew the adoration that Our Patriarch and Scion the Sir Laurens held for his dear friend and Queen, Renilde from a ripe age.

 

It is unsurprising to anyone privy to the events as they have transpired, but We are persistent and faithful that our Almighty DIEU will guide us through the River's raging waters.

JOYFULLY, We FURTHER announce the planning of a Fête du Campagnois (c. Festival of the Campagnois) to celebrate our introduction and warm welcome into Hyspia.

The former Baronne Emeritus surveyed the announcement with neither pride nor disappointment. In the short four decades of her life, so much had changed - so much that she no longer recognized what was truly her home. With the maturation of her children, she felt no need to trail upon the heels of the Halcourts no more. Justine would be sure to pen a polite letter to the Baron later. It was time for her to return to the one place she truly felt comfortable in, Aldersberg.
