  1. 1. Do you like the concept of RP jousting tournaments?

  2. 2. Do you enjoy spectating RP jousting events?

  3. 3. Have you ever taken part in an RP jousting tournament?

  4. 4. What do you believe is the best way to simulate the mechanics of jousting?

    • Mechanical hits through the use of Surge lances
    • Honor CRP
    • Rolling
    • A combination of the above (comment)
  5. 5. Do you believe jousting is appropriately represented and prominent in LotC RP culture?

  6. 6. Do you view RP jousting tournaments as exclusively human cultural events, or suitable for all other LotC communities?

    • Jousting is a human RPer's sport
    • Jousting can be enjoyed by all descendants

they simply need to be just more than activity milestones for nations and have some weight that makes them enjoyable to watch.

also lowkey the festival format so ppl aren’t afking for 2 hours oocly is ideal.

Requires a heavy medieval settlement/nations with knighthood schemes and honor systems that are spurred by public events and demonstrations of martial prowess, to be ran effectively.

This.

Personal opinion: Jousting could be great. I feel like nations are lacking and have been sleeping on sports competitions between each other.

If you make a League of Jousting, sign me up. We need jerseys, and trading cards.

Personally have participated in many jousts in my lotc career. Find that mechanically its still the best. However as many have already stated, spectating one can be extremely boring. Think personally jousts should be more open box style similar to 1v1 duel tourneys. As rather than mindlessly running down the runway, one has to think of positioning, and can be more visually stimulating for spectators.

my opinion here; mechanical jousts were one of and still are one of the coolest nation activities on the server that you can get mostly anyone involved in given a horse whistle and a lance, and it wowed me that you could just lance folks on this server instead of having to do everything with non-existent horses in emotes and rolls to strike (the norm on other roleplay servers). easily got me very invested and immersed in the roleplay scene with the jousting tournaments that were pretty commonplace in haense on almaris when i started playing

for why they seem less common;

it seems like what people have said about spectator roleplay either being lacking or not existing is very true. more active announcing from someone present at the joust helps, and actual roleplay from participants very much helps (just because its mechanical does not mean you shouldn't be doing emotes before the tilts) but theres only so much mood-setting a herald or the king can do before the onus is on the people attending the event to roleplay and react properly.

id hazard saying secondarily that i think changes to the pvp plugin this map have made jousting much much harder to do which has negatively affected how common these events are. i believe the change was making it so folks could only lance by striking the other player rather than strikes on the horse counting towards the lance applying. it means that sometimes a given match will go 4-5 attempts before you simply have to change to on foot combat, and it causes events to drag on much longer than they really did on almaris where the mechanical aspect of the matches themselves tended to go fairly quickly

afk making ravioli in the microwave if ur spectating

felt this every event in lotc is snoresville and takes literal irl hours to complete so if ur just a spectator ur better off getting staff to put an npc placeholder for you instead to go watch monday night raw or Friday smackdown like a man

I think jousting rp is great. Mechanical Jousting is the only time where I will outright advocate for mechanical stuff - it's the best to play and best to watch. Now, that said, I do also believe it's best to have a range of ways to access it so that all players get the chance to have a go or prefer to build their character one way or another: not everyone can access mechanical pvp elements either because of trackpad, other hardware issues, or even physical disabilities, and people just straight up have to remember that and not be jerks. Some people still have to have up and realise that even though roll/honour might be more boring to watch they're the only types of rp available on the server that can truly be inclusive and anything otherwise is going to be exlusive in some form.

There's the flat reality that if you do mechanical stuff the people with more money will probably do better than you because they can pay for a better internet connection, and people who engage in pvp will probably do better than you because they have a sweaty clickspeed. This, too, is exlusionary. Frankly, I think these issues can largely be dampened if someone decided to add a cooldown timer to jousting lances to prevent spam clicking and I think tournaments would be more fair and better for it. I don't know why somone hasn't done this since focusing on timing seems more interesting to me than who can click faster.

Regardless, that aside, jousting gets so much spotlight but not enough nations fcare to have the fanfare around each jousting event. You need the introductions, the stalls, engage in your cultural traditions. Making bonds with other characters who are participating is also part of making the events engaging because you have a reason to care who wins.
Just get involved in the rp side!
(more collaborative nation vs jousting events would also be based. Theycould be like our LOTC hippodrome...)

Do they seem less common to me?
Not really, I think this is a bias made up in peoles heads. I feel no difference and enjoy the jousting just as much as before.

jousting events should be both emoted and performed mechanically via surge

they are fun to participate, boring to watch, slightly better than court rp while watching

thats my opinion

roll/crp jousting sucks, takes way longer than it needs to. there's a jousting lance in surge PvP made specifically to facilitate tournaments. jousts are the one mechanical event where the average joe can beat a pvper as well.

you forgot about spleef

we could solve the spectator problem by doing a gigantic free-for-all where the last man mounted wins
