Date: 3rd of the Deep Cold, 1986

A Saint’s week ago Rhorgvar Frostbeard was in a tavern in Balian, shortly after the conclave to decide the new High Pontiff. During this visit he attempted to attack a child in the local tavern before being kicked out of the tavern by the guards of the kingdom. After being kicked out he had called me, Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul, to him, where he then said “I will give you 300 mina to assassinate Mirt” before pointing to the 8 year old goblin.

Seeing an opportunity for both profit and justice, I got in contact with Mirt, with their permission I cut off some of their hair. The plan was to take the hair to the dwarf as proof of the crime and receive the money, in which I would lure him into canonism to arrest him and have proper justice dealt to him.

I had traveled to Urguan to meet with the dwarf, unfortunately Ayr dialect may seem quite aggressive to some. The dwarf took offense to the use of “Halfman” which is synonymous with “Dwed” in Ayr tongue and is not intended as an insult. Upon giving him the goblin’s hair he claimed that it was not enough proof, upon which I demanded payment again. Seeing there was no more point in keeping up the scheme I delivered him the charges, saying “If you enter canondom again you will be swiftly apprehended and put to death for your crimes, unless we may talk.” upon which he drew his warhammer. Seeing I had to defend myself I drew my halberd. I drew my weapon AFTER he drew his weapon, something he would lie about in his public letter of defamation.

The dwarf demanded I leave, upon which I once more asked if we could talk. Once again the dwarf denied me and I left. I left having attacked no one with anything but my aggressive, regional dialect. Upon my leaving some elves did throw insults at me, calling me an “elf-slayer” and, regrettably, I did throw insults back. I must ask for forgiveness for the insults I threw, however are we all without sin? Are we all ever-so pious in every waking hour?

As for the dwarf:

If Rhorgvar Frostbeard enters any kingdom in canondom he should be swiftly arrested and taken to the Holy See for:

  • Calling an assassination on a child

  • Lying in hopes to insite wars

Rhorgvar Frostbeard is armed, he is not a major threat however. Rhorgvar Frostbeard often will not strike his hammer, getting other people to do it for him as we have seen.

Your Brother in Arms,

Holy Ser Lug Whitewood-MacSkaul, Grandmaster of the Holy Order of Saint Jude

Estevot reads the missive, and furrows his eyes. Child ASSASSINATION? His axe would be ready for this man.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to address the recent missive concerning the supposed actions and intentions attributed to me. The accusations laid out are not only false but also reflect a blatant attempt by Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul to misrepresent the facts and avoid accountability for his own actions.

Firstly, the claim that I attempted to attack a child in a tavern is entirely unfounded. I have always upheld the values of honor and integrity, and such accusations are a gross mischaracterization. Mirt, while indeed small, is not as innocent as portrayed. This goblin previously tried to rob me of my goods. As any merchant would, I defended my property and livelihood against such theft.

The missive's assertion that I offered 300 mina for Mirt's assassination is a complete fabrication. My grievance with Mirt was never about taking lives but rather about addressing the wrongs done to me. I requested either a public apology from Mirt for her attempt to rob me or a compensation of 1000 mina. These are reasonable demands for restitution, not an assassination plot. Which can be found within the Book of Grudges.

Furthermore, I have witnesses who can attest to the truth of the events in question. Two elves of the grove and a fellow dwarf—one with striking red hair and a green eye—observed the encounter and can provide a truthful account of the situation. Their testimonies will confirm that Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul's narrative is a distortion of the facts.

The claim that Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul's actions were motivated by a desire for justice is misleading. His attempt to lure me into a confrontation and fabricate charges demonstrates his true intent. The so-called “proof” of my alleged crime—a lock of goblin hair—was nothing more than a ruse to justify his own aggressive and deceitful actions.

Furthermore, the account of our encounter is a distortion of the truth. Whitewood-MacSkaul drew his weapon first, prompting my defensive reaction. His subsequent insults and provocations were a direct result of his own aggressive and unwarranted behavior.

It is clear that Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul is not a defender of the innocent but rather an advocate for those who seek to exploit and take from others. His actions and the false accusations he has levied against me are a testament to this fact.

I urge all to see through this deceitful ploy and recognize it for what it truly is—an attempt to deflect blame and avoid facing the consequences of his own actions. I stand ready to address any legitimate concerns with transparency and truth, but these baseless allegations will not go unchallenged.

The Fisher Knight reads over the missive methodically, he pauses on the name of "Mirt." He lets out a heavy groan of disgust at the name, muffled by his helm.

Briga reads this missive - Gods there were a lot of missives these days - and once can only react with confusion. Well, whatever the truth of this odd declaration, she would still continue to teach her student.

...Hopefully Rhorgvar wouldn't be executed before his lessons were completed.

To Whom It May Concern

The dwarf continues to throw blame from anyone but himself, I have taken credit for the insults I threw, but he is unable to take account for anything. This dwarf is one that always plays the victim, and a horrible representation of the dwarven kind.

If this dwarf were truly honorable, we would be able to set aside these acts of aggression and come to an agreement, one which I asked for the day the incident took place.

Alternatively, he would challenge me to a duel.

Everything the dwarf claims continues to be blatantly false, I only hope we may resolve this issue peacefully.

-Holy Ser Whitewood-MacSkaul

"Mirt, what a lovely name!"  Said Merf, the gnome.
