Origin/Background/Culture

Dreadspawn are born from the primordial collective of fear of all decedents, they are not born as a decedent is, as a decedent is made of flesh and blood while a dreadspawn is but a crude and horrific mimicry of their forms. they are born from dark places where they can grow and develop their early stages before they can make an almost perfect mimicry of decedents.

they are a relatively new beings to emerge on the realm of aevos and the reason for this is the almost constant paranoia and fear that has scourged the land, with war and bloodshed being but another place that they can feast on the fear of decedents.

Physical Description

In their true form dreadspawn are a horrific mimicry of decedents that is roughly humanoid, usually taking after man they are much taller than an average man being anywhere from 7' to 9' with the taller ones tending to have a more stretched out appearance to their torso. there arms are elongated tending to be around 6 feet but depends on height of as they will always hang close to the ground, but they are able to Strech out their arms to be about a foot longer. there torso is the main feature of their body being elongated and extremely thin, the main point of it is the ouroboros that circles their torso that is visible as a tattoo when they are disguised. there legs unlike the rest of their body are roughly normal to a decedent. the face of a dreadspawn is completely featureless other then there two glowing eyes which are usually pure white or a shade of red. despite it not showing dreadspawn do have a mouth on their head, which when they reveal it usually has rows of razor-sharp teeth and they can unhinge there jaw making it so it can swallow things up to two feet while still having incredible jaw strength being able to break bone and dent armor. the dreadspawns hands are similar to that or a human, other than the 6-inch claws that are on each finger, but these claws make it extremely hard or impossible for a dreadspawn to wield a weapon or shield in their true form. when a darkspawn is disguised, it can take the form of almost any race, but will usually take the form of a human or elf

the strength of a dreadspawn is on point with that of a normal human with them being able to carry most not extremely heavy objects. but their ability to take blows is horrific as per there elongated and thin frame making most weapons very effective at damaging the dreadspawn. while it can barely take a blow the dreadspawn has an extreme amount of agility and flexibility, with them being able to twist there body's in ways that are impossible to most beings, and there agility allows them to do many feats, climbing walls, swinging across rooftops of buildings or trees, and when they use all four of their limbs they are able to almost reach speeds of a horse

dreadspawn have a few weaknesses. the first being that silver will burn and melt flesh off of them in both there true form and there disguised form, but in there disguised form the effect is not as severe. the next is the tattoo of a ouroboros which is usually on there torso and cant be hidden through any means, magic or physical, and through this tattoo they can be reviled. the last weakness of them is there inability consume or process night sap, and upon consuming it they will almost immediately fall into a deep slumber for 2 hours, while in this slumber they are unable to hold there Disguise and will be in there true form while in this slumber.

its greatest weakness, and the only way to truly kill a dreadspawn, is to starve it and not allow it to consume or produce fear, and it will get incrementally weaker and eventually completely unable to hold a disguise and finally it will crumble to dust if it has not feed for 4 years. ghosts can also partly see though there disguise

Mental Description

The mindset and mental aspects of your creature should be laid out here.

Mindset: Most dreadspawn have one goal that is above all others, Feed, as they must consume the fear of others to live, beyond this the dreadspawn will usually seek out places that they can live usually with high population, and they will do so disguised, the purpose of this need to be in populated places is said to be so they have a plentiful supply of food. they are also always planning; weather it is a way to lure their target or to find a way to escape if discovered. they also do not kill their targets as they can use them to feed later on

Mental State: while disguised dreadspawn will form their own wants and believes, but when they are in their true form, they lose almost all humanity and will become more like a feral predator then a person but will still retain their ability of speech and reasoning and will taunt and seek to scare targets. some dreadspawn also struggle with minor identity crisis if they have had previous disguises that they have had to leave behind for being discovered.

Abilities

Any kind of unique abilities, such as a magic or special body functions (e.g. forming acid and spitting it out), should be covered here.

  • Fear manifestation
  • Fear Manifestation is the Dreadspawn’s primary method of feeding. This ability allows the Dreadspawn to invade the psyche of a chosen victim, uncovering their greatest fear and manifesting it as a flawless illusion visible only to the target. the illusion is perfect and to the target is indistinguishable from reality and to the target even the area around them can become altered to them and after the illusion ends the target will faint and forget the dreadspawn causing the illusion, but not the illusion itself. if the dreadspawn is hurt or interrupted while the illusion is underway it will instantly end and the dreadspawns true form revealed for a short time
  • this ability needs a requirement of three emotes to do but can take longer up to a max of five, the firsts being the dreadspawn initiating the illusion, the second as the illusion solidify and what the target sees this can be repeated twice, and the final emote is when the dreadspawn feeds on the fear and dissipates the illusion. the longer fear manifestation lasts the longer it is able to live without feeding again.
  • redlines

Minimum Emote Requirement: Fear Manifestation must be executed over at least three emotes to properly portray the buildup, manifestation, and feeding process.

-No Physical Harm: The illusion cannot harm the target physically and is completely unable to kill the target

- Limited use fear manifestation can't be used on multiple people at once and can only be used on one person at a time

- Cooldown: fear manifestation has a cool down making it so you can't use it again for 30 irl minutes

- fear manifestation: is completely unable to target things that don't have fears or other dreadspawn

- the changing of the area around the target is only an illusion and is unable to physically affect the target, though it will seem like reality to the target

frGeneral Red lines/Restrictions

-can't force actions from people when using fear manifestation

- can't force the fear manifestation onto multiple people when it is happening

- is unable to kill the target after using fear manifestation

-if the dreadspawn is reduced to near death or is hurt enough in its disguise it will reveal its true form

-injuries happen to both forms, aka if the disguise is hurt the true form will be hurt and vice versa

- the tattoo of the ouroboros cannot be removed though both magical and physical forms, it can be covered up with clothes and armor though

- the disguise is only a mimicry, and can be broken when exposed to silver or with nightcap or if when injured enough

- is unable to learn magic, but is able to learn alchemy

Purpose (OOC)

this lore serves to expand on the variety of darkspawn out there and allows people to expand on their characters fears whatever they may be. I believe that the dreadspawn fits into the cannon as paranoia and war are running rampant, which things such as the dreadspawn are bound to rise out of this, and with the dreadspawn there is an interesting way to have it play out.

Could be a cool event or non-playable creature—not a CA, but still a cool idea.

This lore has been denied.

While the format was pretty standard, the content was just not up to modern lore standards and as it was, it would have been instantly denied in Lore Mag. As opposed to having the LT vote N 5 times and barring re-submission, I recommend you look over these assortment of threads as well as garner more experience with Magics on the server to better understand the current Lore Climate. Writing lore is a very uphill battle with LOTC bureaucracy, and I highly highly recommend you play a bit more before trying to draft new concepts.
