On Armaments

Mages who practice magic for one or more OOC months cannot wear full plate effectively, and at best are limited to half-plate medium armor or some light armor gambeson. Anything more than this would render the mage unable to cast and incredibly exhausted after just a short time of wearing it. Though a mage could wear full plate prior to this point, their ability to do so would slowly degrade, exhausting more over time. Once a mage has reached about three OOC months of casting would find themselves unable to cast in anything heavier than gambeson, struggling to connect and maintain their breath in heavy plate.

HALFPLATE ISNT REAL.

WHAT THE FK IS HALFPLATE?

EVERYONE JUST MAKES UP THEIR OWN DEFINITION!!!

PLEASE UPDATE EVERYTHING TO SAY MEDIUM ARMOR

sorry! dont you know halfplate is heavy armor? Dont you know the techlock was written in isolation from every other piece of lore? smh!

this is honestly such a pointless amendment ttho lmao no mage can use this in a meaningful manner. Plus, the techlock actually redlines against this specifically! ["Void Weak" MA/FA/CAS can only use light armor AND half plate (heavy armor!)]

but ok i will write more amendment slop

half-plate is defined in techlock

Very poorly, if at all

It mentions that half plate is an exception to the rules, but nowhere does it define what exactly constitutes half plate. As such, people have been able to define it as armor that covers just about everything important.
There definitly needs to be some proper definition as to the outer limits of what half plate can be (or it should be removed altogether as being too heavy).

•  Voidally Weak (or similarly weak) characters are incapable of wearing Medium and Heavy Armor to any degree lest they suffer immense fatigue. The exception to this rule is Half-Plate, provided that they are eligible in the redlines of their MAs/Feats.

•  Sprint Distance defers to what adorns the Player’s Torso. This is to say that a Plate Cuirass coupled with Chain Sleeves would constitute Heavy Armor, whereas a Chain Hauberk with Plate Arms would constitute Medium Armor. This extends to Half-Plate for eligible MAs/Feats, CAs that lack fatigue, and abilities which emulate Sprinting (Floating, Etcetera).

Big +1 to wowj for this suggestion, half plate should be properly defined

That redline is pretty silly, though - if you're so weak you can't wear scale-mail, why can you wear something heavier? Almost every lore that relies on a "void weak" crutch also permits half plate because it was the intermediate armor of old techlock. Half-Plate is mechanically Identical to Plate. If I say I have Heavy Armor on my torso, how I choose that to appear shouldn't really matter because its not like it being Brigandine vs Plate is going to matter mechanically.

I believe that eliminating Half-Plate as a concept within its entirety and replacing it with a more broad-range "medium armour" has its uses and is very applicable - but not because Half-Plate is, within itself, bad.

The reason I believe that this amendment should go through isn't necessarily because the state of things is poor in terms of present lore-writing, but for how much it allows someone to effectively "game the system" when needed. Skins are the only real source where someone can show what armour they're wearing, making it very inconsistent - someone who's wearing half-plate can "conveniently" have that plate cover their arms when they're facing an attack that would otherwise be debilitating to them if they weren't wearing it there, and the same thing applies to, really, anywhere else on their body.

It's like having plate armour, with the power of bullshit to fill in the gaps. It relies too much on good faith - and, in a world where many, these days, do not operate by good faith, and have the horrible "winner's mentality" about the entirety of what has anything to do with combat on the server, having things be as simple and as clear-cut as possible in as many ways as possible is the right way to go about things.

That's just my 2 cents, though, to be honest - can't go after me for having an opinion :)
