ORIGIN

With the influence of the Stake of Mordring upon the physical realm of Aevos, wicked necromancers of great cunning and vile will began to experiment with the abundant abyssal energies which permeate through the dreamers swamp. Large flesh constructs brought into those dreadful, cursed lands would occasionally gibber and speak as though alive. Weavers curious about this phenomenon began to experiment. Hunting down large beasts and bringing their remains into the blighted swamps to raise in tandem with the unholy powers of Mordring’s Stake. Eventually, small collections of clever weavers manifested from the remains of a mighty Olog the first of great constructs to serve within the dreadful ranks of their abyssal armies- the Bone Giants, (referred to sometimes as Bonelogs); ghoulish immidations of the proud olog descendents of Krug and crude imitations of the flesh golems conjured up by necromancers who partake in the art of Rh’thore.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Bonelogs are a variant of the ghoulish undead conjured by necromancers which resemble ologs in many ways. They range anywhere from nine to twelve feet tall, often thick hollow bones strung together by twisting sinew and draping flesh and muscle alike which help give these wretched creatures animation. Some may hold organs within their rotting frames, but such are defunct and useless- not required for their day to day function as undead. They have no need for eyes or ears; foul animative magics granting them some similar semblance to those functions.

All Bone Giants are constantly in some state of decay. They could be skeletal ologs of great stature with strings of flesh upon them to mummified corpses to vile carcasses covered in moss and lichen. Like lesser ghouls they possess a rank stench of decay and rot which is impossible to truly mask regardless of what efforts are taken. Horrible glowing lights may also linger upon them; from a wretched glow in their eye sockets to unholy black smog leaking from parts of their form. The necrotic curse which promotes their form is always visible in some manner- making it hard for these creatures to blend in with normal society.

Though great in size, a Bone Giant will always be weaker than their true living counterparts, and far more clumsy. In addition to being relatively as strong as a minimal strength Olog, the lack of proper muscles makes these creatures relatively slow, making them move a quarter speed slower than the average olog and mortal descendent alike.

REDLINES:

Spoiler
  • Bone Giants are weak to gold, aurum, and spells which target darkspawn. Though they cannot feel pain in a traditional sense, such objects bring searing agony to a Bone Giant. In addition, a Bone Giant possesses great fear of such things, and will seek to avoid them whenever possible, or lash out in uncontrollable rage upon sight of such things.
  • A Bone Giant may be defeated instantly should their skull be smashed. Due to their size, this often requires slightly more effort then the average ghoul- with at least two solid strikes from a weapon which can slash or cleave to break the skull open. Blunt weapons however still require only one solid hit upon the cranium to induce obliteration, along with weapons made of carbarium and high density boomstee regardless of if they are meant to cut or smash.
  • Bone Giants possess strength and stature similar to their ologish cousins, but are far weaker. In terms of quantification, a singular olog can overpower a Bone Giant in a wrestling match, and two average strength uruks could in theory punt a Bone Giant to the ground if they worked in tandem, or three average strength humans. They are also incapable of riding upon horses due to their weight (usually ¾ to 1/2 of an average olog).
  • Bone giants, like lesser ghouls are highly flammable due to their rotting flesh. If lit on fire, a bone giant will feel immense, agonizing mental pain as a primal fear of fire due to their dim wittedness takes hold. A bone giant if lit on fire will always prioritize putting the flames out. Should this not be extinguished after (5) continuous emotes, the Bone Giant will turn into a pile of bones (death). It takes (2) emotes to extinguish yourself, and (1) emote if someone else extinguishes the Bone Giant.
  • A Bone Giant will not be able to focus on anything save for putting the flames out while on fire due to immense pain and fear.
  • Due to their size, a Bone Giant possesses more durability then a Ghoul, requiring at least two solid strikes from a blunt weapon to break their bones due to the thickness of such. Slashing is even less effective, requiring 4 emotes to successfully break their bones. However to cut the sinew of their rotting muscles, only 3 successful slashes are required to properly sever a tendon.
  • Like all undead, Bone-Giants have limitless stamina, however they require muscles and sinew to move, and could be worn down by constant wear and tear of battle.
  • Due to their sheer size, a Bone-Olog is remarkable slow and clumsy, only able to move at ¾ the speed of a regular olog and their attacks being relatively telegraphed as such. This means that they are capped at 3 blocks of movement per emote, or six if dedicated to spriting. Wearing armour only further weights them down then it would a normal ghoul; and if the bone-olog was to wear medium armour or more, their movement would be reduced to 2/4 instead and the ability of their attacks to be telegraphed even greater.
  • Although a Bone-Olog is strong enough to lift carbarium; using such objects are far too unwieldy due to their clumsy nature- and such objects can not be effectively used as a weapon. Due to their ologish nature, the use of High Density Boomsteel will cause great fear and terror as such a weapon would do for a living olog.
  • Bone Ologs do not require sleep or the need to eat. They are unaffected by poison, and do not need to breath. However like ghouls they are liable to break apart if they stay in water for two long; drifting apart after 15 emotes of submerging in water and dying.
  • Bone Giants are capable of taking on semi animalistic features (such as horns, hooves, beast skulls, tails, etc). However these additional tails or horns cannot be used to gain competitive advantage.

MENTAL DESCRIPTION:

Bone Giants are creatures which once were living Ologs. They are rather simplistic in such a way- stunted like their living counterparts only to be more tormented in the rungs of undeath. They possess a great, unending hunger to constantly feast upon the flesh of living creatures which never seems to be satisfied, driven by such a hunger it is not uncommon to see Bone Giants as generally violent brutes. However they are true sentient creatures despite all things, and are capable of possessing wants and desires beyond simply feeding all the time. Their dim witted nature can make them a remarkably stalwart companion to any necromancers or undead ring leader who can manage to tame their normally ravenous appetite, though they lack self restraint- often gorging upon raw flesh in vile orgies of consumption. Some of the more cruel and wicked Bone-Giants might even revert to the consumption of their fellow undead should they be truly desperate to feel the sensation of meat flow through their forms while more tame Bone Giants might attempt to barter and make trades for such feasts of meat instead.

Despite all things however, a Bone Giant is ultimately subservient to the necromancer which raised them, following their commands willingly or not. Much like ghouls, Bone Giants might find this relationship to be pleasant, seeing their necromancer as ‘A Big Boss’ or holding much spite towards their new masters.

A final trait is memory, Bone Giants struggle greatly with recalling information, especially due to their dim witted nature. It is not uncommon for Bone Giants to suffer from a series of mental issues such as dementia, schizophrenia, and fits jealousy against the living as they are capable of enjoying the true sensation of food; something which has been robbed from them.

REDLINES:

Spoiler
  • Bone Giants possess a mentality similar to basic ologs, though sent through the traumatic experiences of Ghouldom and the pains of undeath. They are simplistic creatures which possess a great and near unending hunger to constantly consume raw flesh. So great is this desire that in the midst of combat a Bone Giant might stop all things to begin gouging upon the corpse of a slain foe if no immediate danger is presented to them.
  • Bone Giants are capable of wants and needs similar to that of a living olog. They may possess hobbies, a desire to barter for flesh, love of music, or other small quirks developed which they may enjoy.
  • A Bone Giant is not a mindless slave to their necromancer. They may be subservant to their will, but they will never be mindless slaves. They are capable of showing spite to those that raise them or hold a protective compulsion for them.
  • A Bone Giant is fearful towards Aurum and Fire- and will go to extreme lengths to avoid both of these if at all possible. This can be shown with hesitation, spontaneous fits of rage and fright, or outright panic to flee the source.
  • A Bone Giant cannot recall their past lives with clarity, much like a ghoul. Faces and names will be a blur, and it is nearly impossible to convince them that they might have held a relationship with others before their raising.
  • A Bone Giant, like an Olog and ghoul, is incapable of practicing any kind of magic which uses spell slots or practicing alchemy. They are also extremely dull witted and struggle to even use alchemical solutions. Additionally due to their large and clumsy nature they are incapable of using complex weaponry such as crossbows and using magical enchantments.

Bone Giant - Warhammer - The Old World - Lexicanum

CREATION Rite of the Bone Giant

To create a Bone Giant, a Necromancer of T5 must work in tandem with an acolyte who can fuel the ritual. They must channel their necromantic powers into the corpse of an Olog through a free form, 4 emote ritual in which they raise the beast from the grave. This can be from a complex ritual to reassemble the fallen olog, imbuing tainted life force into a grave, or merely finding the remains of such a beast abandoned upon the ground.

Due to the immense strain and effort needed to raise and command a Bone Giant, only one may be bound and tethered to a necromancer at a time, regardless of if they are an Arch Lich or Mortal Weaver. The immensity of this ritual also means that Paramount Darkstalkers which can create normal ghouls cannot raise and command a Bone Giant; though they may assist in the raising of one. Once a Bone Giant is bound to a Necromancer, it must be PKed before a new one can be raised in its place.

REDLINES:

Spoiler
  • Rite of the Bone Giant is a T5 ritual, requiring a T5 necromancer to be assisted by an acolyte or a paramount darkstalker.
  • The Rite of the Bone Giant is automatically learned by all T5 necromancers if this lore is approved.
  • The Rite of the Bone Giant is free form, but should require at least 4 emotes of calling uopn the Olog’s soul and assembling the creature.
  • An Olog’s corpse is required. Upon the Bone-Giant’s CA; their former Olog CA should be linked to ensure validity.
  • Bone Giants are a Closed CA; and cannot be made through World Events which would make the regular Ghoul CA open.
  • A necromancer can only bind one Bone Giant to them at a time, this is documented upon their MA. Should the Bone Giant go rogue, a new one cannot be created in its place. Only when the Bone Giant has PKed (IE: their CA is denied) can a new one be made. Additionally, due to the strain of this ritual a Necromancer which creates a Bone Giant is INCAPABLE of conjuring forth a Flesh Golem. This is to prevent dreaded OLOG SPAM.
  • The ritual to create a Bone Giant cannot be done in combat.

REVIVAL - Rite of Return:

The ritual to return a Bone Giant from death is far less taxing then what is required to make them. A singular necromancer is capable of flesh smithing together several humanoid or animal bodies, and imbuing the remains with life force, calling upon the fallen Bone Giant back into the realm of the living.

REDLINES:

Spoiler
  • This is the revival mechanic for Bone Giants.
  • Follows all the relevant rules of revival (cannot recall events that lead to death)
  • All necromancers, regardless if an Arch Lich or Mortal must wait at least 30 minutes before this ritual can be performed.
  • The necromancer which raised the Bone Giant can hear the wails of the fallen creature in the back of their mind as a signal that they must be revived.
  • A new body can be flesh smithed for the Bone Giant, requiring the amount of remains similar to how a necromancer would make a flesh golem.
  • Rite of Return cannot be performed in combat.

PROGRESSION

It is a doomed fate for a Bone Giant to be raised. Unlike ghouls, their sheer size (and perhaps stupidity as an olog-esk creature) denies them many chances to advance in the rungs of undeath. They may be promoted to be great and valued bodyguards and servants of their Coven, but they may never be raised to greater status such as a Darkstalker. Forever will they be bound to their fate.

PURPOSE:

At first, I had thought of making this lore piece as an MArt to be put up on the forms for approval, but the more I had given it some thought the more I wanted to express the idea of making this a more open ended creature for the different Necromancer covens to use. I have had a few people express to me an interest in playing an Olog Ghoul, and since the Ghoul and Olog CA are very simplistic, I figured that it would not be a far stretch to create something along those lines which can hopefully provide new and interesting ‘evil monsters’ to linger in the world. Additionally, since the creation of this CA would then prevent a Necromancer from using Flesh Golems, I thought it be a fair trade off in terms of ‘balance’ to prevent Olog Spam (dreaded so it be).

FYI I stole like, 80% of werewolf’s formatting. It was good, what can I say?

This morning you spoke of Olog ghouls.

”If you want lore, write it yourself.” Spoke a naysayer.

”ok.”

now it’s here.

Well played and Godspeed.

This lore has been denied.

Basically, ST Management just fears misuse of Olog strength and street arguments over power-scaling in the midst of CRP. We'd rather avoid more of it. Also #Justice4Gilriik
