Explanation

 

 

I’m writing this report to address a recent situation which led to the PK of one of my characters. My character was made into a draugur which later led to the destruction of my phylactery whilst I was banned. I believe this was done in bad faith by King_Kunuk in order to ‘farm’ black dust so that he himself could become a lich

 

King_kunuk was asked to be a part of a ritual to resurrect my character Asbjorn as a Lich/Draugur using necromancy. It was something that was spoken about a lot, and has been roleplayed about many times in the Xion group.. Mainly, the proprietors of this were Xergarok’s character and Hawkeye_Gouge’s character. I waited a bit until Hawkeye let me know they were making some roleplay finalizations, and we started discussing a time to actually do the ritual. Getting 5 people online at the same time was tough, but we found some people who would do it, including King_Kunuk. 

 

Our next interaction was when he rearranged my character’s face using flesh smithing, even though my character was living and ineligible for such.I wasn’t familiar with the lore he was using, and trusted he knew his own redlines. Obviously, I didn’t know it was a problem at the time until an ST was notified, and resolved it with him  . Since then, we haven’t interacted much at all, irply or oocly. 

 

Some time goes by, and my current character (Asbjorn) is pk’d. He was very old, and usually Adunians tend to PK much earlier. The roleplay was pretty intense, it seemed like a good place to actually pk the character. Then, I tell everyone give me a few months, let the rp kinda cool off and I want to play a draugur. Everyone, including kunuk, agrees. (Who is involved with my roleplay spook group).

 

Safe to say, there are probably 15-20 people closely involved with the resurrection of my character Asbjorn. Unfortunately with these kinds of roleplay rituals, there has to be a certain amount of ooc communication surrounding it to get all of the players online in time, one of which was kunuk. It takes a while to start, but the ritual happens, everyone’s happy and starts interacting with my character, it was great!

 

The next day I was messaged by a friend who let me know that my draugur’s phylactery was destroyed by Kunuk. This happened just after I was banned for an inappropriate username (for which I am sorry, but it’s not related). I’m not entirely certain of the details of Kunuk’s rp surrounding the situation but it seemed to even be a surprise to another player who was involved, m1919. 

 

I contacted Kunuk about the incident, since I was utterly confused about why he would resurrect my character just to break the phylactery. I did it in the Xion discord at large, given that I had planned on being involved with the community still. 

 

This was his answer, which was edited much later, his original answer 

Is pretty barebones. Black dust is a part of a ritual required for necromancy to ‘win’. The end game of Necromancy is to become an Archlich, which is an immortal being that can not die (basically). It’s the end game, it’s ‘winning’, and typically in order to accomplish this task a player must create a cult of necromancers, and teach them and work with them. The idea being that this fosters roleplay in a unique niche, and is the purpose of the magic. An Archlich needs an entire coven working together side by side, and is not meant to be pursued alone by players. 

He then goes on to explain his IRP reasoning. In terms of the roleplay he is referencing here, I am fairly certain it never happened. At most, we had a conversation about it in vc one time. As mentioned previously, I had no interactions with him after ST handled the incorrect flesh-smithing roleplay. I suppose this could be explained irply by lack of familiarity, but any animosity or irp anger doesn’t make sense given our character’s minimal interaction with each other. It seems it was more a reflection of how he felt about me, rather than how his character felt about my character.

 

He was involved in the Xion/Synod group like me, and roleplayed within it. As far as I know there was never any mention or intention of the community for my character to be used this way, and by extension it doesn’t make much sense.

 

Below he claims that there was always a plan to do this to my character. Again, I don’t believe there is any roleplay to back this up especially regarding any sort of interactions with myself or even other members of the community. 

 

 

Unfortunately I don’t have an actual screenshot of the in game interaction, but below I’ve posted a picture of my game logs. It shows Kunuk volunteering oocly to create the phylactery after the ritual. He then proceeded to log off just after the end of the ritual. Whilst no one thought anything of it at the time, this is a clear demonstration of trying to oocly direct the position of the phylactery where it was just in his control.  

 

 

 He oocly suggested he’d be in charge of it and by doing it this way he avoided any kind of RP around the situation, and used this OOC position to his advantage. Later, he put the Phylactery in a precarious situation and contacted another player (M1919) to come destroy it. I’m unsure to what extent M1919 had involvement in the situation, but overall the act of Kunuk using someone else to break the phylactery seems malicious. I believe he was either intending to try to make the situation look less like a direct aim to PK my character, or trying to avoid any kind of internal blame within the community since as far as I know it was done without most of their knowledge. Either way, I don’t believe there was much RP done to justify the situation, and it seems more like a meta-play scheme to PK my character. 

 

While this may not pertain exactly to the evidence put forth, there is an extremely similar situation that almost happened with Procrastinate_Pro.

 

This is a similar situation in which it seems like ooc pressure is being used to directly harm someone else’s character in a way to benefit his own goals. Rather than specifically RPly seeking out a ghost for anchoring, he is specifically pressing (and to some extent being rude) to try to urge someone to anchor their persona. I would imagine that if they had decided to do so, he probably would have abused this ooc position in a similar way as seen above. .

Well, well, well, the consequences of one's actions. While I may not be involved with the situation, I'm a bit versed in the necromancy's lore and Kunuk's antics. I have some general screenshots of QUITE the old conversation, proving Kunuk has a twisted and toxic way of approaching conflict. Perhaps it's not particularly his fault but the teacher's—yet he has still done things.

 

I can confirm, you need dust from a phycaltery to become a lich, alongside other materials such as Dragonbones. Many necromancers, through this journey OOC go crazy.

 

 

I can say, however, that the lore is extremely flawed. It should not be Phylactery of bounded ghosts or Draugur alike, but liches. For some reason, in necromancy, it has been twisted to be EVERY form of phylactery. I do understand why, as current liches have none, but why? It leads people to permakilling another or taking an easy path, like Kunuk has done, which fosters no roleplay and gives no development. LT should look into reviewing the rewrite or axing some stuff on this lore asap. By the way, the list of items is on the lore's guide and not the lore itself???

 

I hope these screenshots will help moderation to some extent.

Should continue with the moderation issue. First and foremost, he does not seem to take into account his mistakes. Someone who has done more than one thing, whereas forced ST to put redlines, should understand to be more mindful of their approach to this type of conflict. He does not understand ST or that other players are also people behind a screen. Stressing them out will not be beneficial to anybody, or even abusing their trust! Yeah, you may achieve silly skeleton CA, but at what cost? Abusing people's politeness or using their kindness to help? For this, I think he should be reprimanded with something he'd understand.

 

 

This is regarding the rewrite of Lichdom that he had written. You may read that he's very grounded in the way that necromancers require to permakill others to ascend, and he's rather hostile about this. He has his view, and everyone must follow this. I think he thinks his character will be the Gashadokuro or something, because he's damn crazy. I became rude myself later on because he was not understanding the issue of forcefully permakilling people like this. There is a reason why not many lore pieces have this way like before.

 

 

 

 

 

Once again, he has an odd way to approach conflict. Where you must PK someone. Which, I understand, sometimes PK is needed to progress a story, but it must be mindful and offer a narrative. Not some self-quest to achieve lichdom in an easy fashion. Ah yeah, "I ress this guy and then kill him. Good story."

 

 

This is a conversation I had with Security himself, who is Kunuk's teacher. I would not say he's to blame because on another date(far from this one), he agreed with me on the way of PKing others, but generally he was helpful. So, I don't think he's at fault. After all, he cannot control his student's actions. Furthermore, he has offered some alternatives to it that are not "pk anyone on sight", which is good. Albeit, he mentioned you can bring back the Draugur you pked, if you make another physcaltery, but I'm not sure if this is still allowed. But again, the only solution is pking.

Xo brought up some good points in a recent conversation about this situation. I also added something in. The problem is, he made PCswift write a CA, possibly get a skin, or give him false hopes OOC. Just to PK him thereafter. It's incredibly bad faith, as there was no grandiose lead-up to the PK itself. There was quite literally no story. It would have been better if he had told Pscwift, "Hey dude, my character wants to PK yours x and y. That's why such a ritual is happening." But alas, people in this server hate communicating like adults. If it were me, I would have asked permission because I'm so weak I'll struggle to PK someone myself, but at least Pscwift should have been given a heads-up of the happening. It's not an in-character process of thought, but it's an OOC abuse, leading someone into a situation to favor somebody. In this case, Kunuk, to become a lich. I don't have much else to say. He is hostile to people of different avenues of roleplay and has a straight mind toward how necromancy should be roleplayed, and that's fine. However, he should not impose it on others at all, and as he's a leader of a magic community, he should know how to uphold some way of communication and responsibility.

 

In the end, I hope ST will also remove this need to PK other people.

I can assure all involved 100% transparency in that

 

1. 0 redlines have been broken

2. The issue a Procrastinated is because I was upset that they didn't want to join us for spook rp. There was 0 intention to 'break' there phylactery. I was and is completely transparent to them about the whole situation in rp, not forcing them to 'die' as I continued to reinforce within ooc chat that 'hey I will take no offense if you decide to live or go to CT'. That they ended up choosing to die is there own choice. I am allowed to show frustration that they decided to back out of the RP a half day later am I not? I was looking forward to their ghost rp and seeing what can come of it. (there was no reason in rp to hold that specific cruel vendetta to even break their anchor. In rp Felix wanted to create a 'servant'. Bad faith would be me telling them in ooc 'do this ghost anchor thing' then if they did breaking their phylactery. One which again- 100% transparent with) for their character never made a promise of that sort.

 

In this case, the CHARACTER Asbjorn was always going to be a victim of the CHARACTER Felix's schemes and plots. If it was on another character which PCSwift plays- the scheme would not have unfolded as there would be 0 RP reason behind it. I was not even the Necromancer who offered them. Within roleplay it was brought to my attention that THE CHARACTER ASBJORN was planning to be revived. Rather then let this opportunity go passed him, Felix (the lying chest he is) graciously offered his assistance, fully intending to stage an "accident" to get the reagent he wants.

 

3. Fooldudes screenshots remove context to conversations. Including jokes being made which have 0 impact upon roleplay, some from almost 6+ months ago

 

4. The entire rp, situation around it, and all things involved had 0 'metaplay' or ooc communications if that is a concern.

A good few people have asked for my thoughts elsewhere, so I figure I should throw my two cents in, in case it's of any value. I know a fair bit about the goings-on surrounding this event (I think I'm mentioned above), but I admit I was not there during the creation rp or pk rp.

 

Everyone involved is someone I view as a friend, and I love my friends. That said, I do think I have some valuable insight on the bad faith that I think is involved in this situation. My words shouldn't be taken as gospel, but combined with the other factors definitely go to show that what's going on isn't really a "villain's gonna villain" issue.

 

 

Namely, Kunuk's character Felix has an Eidolon in his employ. I believe that Eidola can have black phylactery dust taken when they're pked (if they're killed and then their menhir is broken). What this means is that the creation of a new CA character was largely unnecessary due to the ease of access to the dust through betraying other allies. The only factor that can really be icly considered is the difference in intent for those different allies.

 

The much easier one to betray would be the one he already had access to when planning this ascension process. This dust could have been achieved at more or less any time using another character, but Kunuk seems to have purposefully waited until he had the opportunity to do it to someone he was less oocly fond of.

 

The choice to oocly direct control of the phylactery without rp beside it, even though most involved didn't oocly or irply envision him controlling it in the first place, just seems like a part of this process of trying to get access to an oocly "cheaper" kill.

 

From an irp standpoint, this costs him a very powerful undead ally - the same or worse than going about this any other way. Oocly, he's created and killed another character to get dust without risking his pre existing allies. I think it's clear that the driving factor wasn't ic selfishness, but ooc preservation.

 

That said, I like hanging out with Kunuk and I hope that he can continue to play without this kind of inclination affecting other players or community members. Maybe there's an option to keep his fun rp in spaces where there aren't force pks and higher standards that might clash, but I don't know what that would mean.

I don't know all, but to attack something that is life or death of a player that isn't even there to defend themselves ain't fair as far as I can tell.

 

If PCswift was still in the server he could have added to the RP and maybe even helped to protect his lifeline ic and might have survived what happened.

 

I'm not sure, but if I have a phylactery that is super important, I feel I would like to be there to decide who is allowed to move it for me as I wouldn't want to risk what keeps me alive to be broken and I'm not even there ic to help keep it safe from harm.

@King_KunukIf there was RP reason just have the staff go through chat logs and use keywords and date estimates to find it. Otherwise, it looks like you're in hot water.
