"There is order, mali, and on occasion there is chaos. A chaos which threatens to tear the fabric of our Blessed society apart. Do not falter in your resolve to preserve the Tradition and Silver of Haelun'or. For this separates us from savagery."

-Malaurir Kalenz Uradir

To HRH John II of Balian and the Balianese People,

It has been but a few, fleeting years since one of our letters graced your doorstep. The last time we ‘hosted’ one of your citizens, they were permitted to leave on the condition that five hundred minas were delivered to our treasury; a trivial amount given the ten thousand minas your ancestors previously extorted from my predecessor, Theveus Sythaerin. Our most generous offer was met with silence from you; a sign that you would truly leave even your children to meet their end by the blade of your foes.

The Silver State does not make a habit of executing children and we would never willingly take the life of a child, yet still one of your citizens from their own pocket paid out the five hundred minas required for his release.

The situation today differs greatly, and the danger this time is all too real. We have one Count-Consort Sigismund within our custody, an adult, aware of the transgressions of his liege-lord and able to swing a sword in your name. If he possesses the ability to swing steel, so too does he possess the ability to die by it.

You have one elven hour to deliver six hundred minas to the Silver State, be it by proxy or in person before our hand is forced and your people know a harsher form of Silver Justice, one delivered solely by blade.

The Sohaer proudly counted up the six hundred minas that had been paid by a concerned Balianese citizen for the hostage, who was able to leave with all of his appendages intact.

Spoiler

Thank you for the roleplay. I hope it was somewhat enjoyable given the kinda grim nature of it.

Said concerned Balianese citizen returned to Balian, and farmed in rage, not for the actions of the elves she now hated with every bone in her body, but over her own ungrateful brethren.

Aurus Greye penned a missive as he sat dutifully beside the bed of his father, who had not been afforded the mercy of leaving with all of his appendages in tact, and had in fact nearly bled to death at the hands of the 'peaceful' Silver State.

Atriana Rorin, a studied historian would note that the ten thousand was split between both Balian and Hyspia due to the ceaseless aggression of the Haelun’orian vassal of Caelia and that several attempts had been made over decades to bring about a peaceful resolution that gave nobody a disadvantage. It seemed to her that the Sohaer used vagueness to spread a false narrative.

Arcaeris Drakon chuckles while reading the missive.

"She really is a 'fenn. . . She's just as horrid as our ancestors were! At least she didn't get a child this time. Ahh, you 'fenn-playing-'thill, I will smile in glee the day elCihi'thilln burns. . . But I suppose patience is a virtue."
