Ojalá - “I hope” or “I wish”
It’s just so fun to say, and also me finding this word taught me that about 4,000 (or 8%) of Spanish words are influenced by Arabic. The word Ojalá itself descends from the word “Inshallah”.

 

Velación - “Vigil” or “Wake”

I learned about this word when my Dad informed me of his grandmother’s passing, he told me that in Mexico the loved ones are expected to stay the night with the casket, and pray, and in the morning after they go to the church for their proper burial. And even after that, it is commonly believed that the body has passed, but the spirit hasn’t, so you’re required to visit the passed one’s home for one or two weeks (?) consecutively and pray for their safe arrival to heaven.
