Never had I seen a creature so regal and pure, with crystalline antlers and sincere eyes. Empathy unlike any I’d found, both in the realm of animals and Men.

Sightings of the Silverwoods, pg. 227, unknown author.

As the name suggests, upon first glance, the Azuran Silverstag, often renamed to the Silverwoods stag, is not unlike the eponymous animal that is found commonly roaming the lands. Unique to the Isle of Silverwoods, the Azuran silverstag is a royal, elegant creature who transmits the purity and uniqueness of the Silverwood in its countenance; from the bright, ivory sheen of its fur, to the crystalline nature of its antlers, and the highly emotional, empathetic eyes, all defining features that set it distinctly apart from all the other stags observed in Azuras, prompting scholars to place it within its own category.

Its body is generally similar to that of a “regular” stag; thin legs and a lean body, displaying muscles made for running, dashing and jumping rather than raw strength. The first point of difference with other stags is the Silverstag’s long, luscious tail, distinctive to the average stag, where the tail is observed to be smaller. The Silverstag’s fur is, as the name suggests, white as the snow, echoing the beautiful sheen that encompasses the purity of the Silverwoods, and this is common across all observed Silverstags; though some take on almost metallic, silvery hues, and others can be observed to possess softer, snowy fur, they are almost universally white.

The crystalline antlers that sit upon its head are perhaps the most curious feature of the Azuran Silverstag. Crystalline not only in name, much like Descendants are able to produce keratin in the shape of nails, the Azuran Silverstag is able to produce a gem-like crystal in its antlers, dubbed the Crown of the Silverstag. Generally speaking, young Silverstags are unable to produce these antlers and require maturity to fully produce a crown of crystalline antlers. Observers have noted a rudimentary hierarchy among Silverstags, where both males and females with the most intricate crowns posed as ‘leadership’ of herds - this, too, sets them apart from the ‘regular’ stags, where female Silverstags - known as Silverdoes - are also capable of producing these crystalline antlers to the same capacity as males. Due to the beauty of the Crown of the Silverstag, one can only ponder what manner of trophies hunters could obtain.

Long lived animals, spanning roughly fifty years in the average life span, the Silverstag is noted to have particularly empathetic eyes throughout its life, from youth to its elderly years. Particularly, young Silverstags are observed to have energetic, kind and gentle eyes, whereas this is turned into regality, and an almost ‘royal’ sense of authority, though not without its warmth and candor. Perhaps the most defining feature of the Silverstag alongside its antlers, its eyes are not only unique in their empathetic nature, but also in the fact that, alike Descendantkind, Silverstags may possess different eye colors, unlimited in its scope, though commonly observed to generally be warm colors, none of them too bright or too dark.

The rest of the Silverstag’s body displays no uniqueness, save for the ones already mentioned. It is an agile animal, its hind legs displaying a higher latent strength than its front, making it almost on par with mountain goats in its climbing capabilities, no doubt used to the mountains of the Silverwoods.

Redlines;

Spoiler
  • The Crown of the Silverstag has no supernatural abilities or applications, and is merely a naturally occurring gem-like crystal produced by the body of the Silverstag to compose its antlers.
  • The Crown of the Silverstag, while sharp for self-defense, is unable to be fashioned into traditional weapons, and does not resist the processes associated with traditional weaponmaking.
  • The Eye of the Silverstag has no supernatural abilities or applications, and is merely a naturally occurring phenomenon, where they display almost human-like empathy and a wide arrange of colors.

Although not rare to the Silverwoods, the Silverstag has been observed to be a highly seclusive animal, keeping itself to its immediate herd and family, and often not interacting with other animals, or strangers upon the Silverwoods. With its herd, the Silverstag is observed to be kind, patient and nurturing, with both male and females alternating what are considered ‘traditional’ gender roles; with the exception of biological necessities such as nurturing the young, both males and females have been observed performing a wide variety of tasks for a herd, and there appears to not be a clear division, other than biological, between ‘male’ and ‘female’ Silverstags.

Due to their herbivore nature, the Silverstags have no necessity to hunt, and as such, are not predatory in nature, but they are able to utilise their crowns in self-defense, and there have been observed cases of Azuran Silverstags sacrificing their crown and their lives for the protection of the herd, or their family. Although not social as mentioned, and willing to defend itself against threats, the Silverstag’s empathetic nature makes it a curious creature, prompting some to often wander alone, to learn about its surroundings and conditions - such is how the first Azuran Silverstag was ever spotted upon the Silverwoods. No attempts to domesticate Silverstags have ever been done, however, it is not beyond the realm of imagination to say it to be possible.

Redlines;

Spoiler
  • Domestication of Silverstags is possible and does not require ST permission. Players are encouraged to roleplay some form of initial ‘difficulty’ to domesticate them, as they are still reserved animals despite their curiosity.
  • Due to their curious and empathetic nature, Silverstags are especially curious towards Descendants and creatures that are naturally attuned to Nature, such as Druids, Tree Lords, Fae, et cetera.

  • Silverstags are not event-only creatures, and may be played by Players and ST alike.
  • Silverstags are naturally occurring only in the Island of Silverwoods.
  • Silverstags are not hostile, but can be cautious/standoff-ish, up to player discretion.
  • Although domestication is possible, Silverstags are reclusive, so group domestication is difficult - players are encouraged to domesticate single, curious Silverstags.
  • Domesticated Silverstags mechanically serve the same purpose as a regular horse mount. They have no additional combative capability that is not already provided by regular horses.
  • The horns of the Silverstag may not be used combatively to block, deflect, or stop attacks in any way, shape or form.

Hi =) Navigator here. The purpose of the Azuran Silverstag is very simple; I was bored, and in a writing mood, and I decided to write something I could see contributing to people who like exploration/researching roleplay as another little critter for people to look into! Aside from the crystalline antlers - which I hope give jewel-makers and hunters an ethical crisis in rp about how to ethically source the Crown - this really is just a ‘fantasy stag’. I made it domesticable because I can see a few cultures/groups that would have little groups of Silverstags domesticated in their castles/manors/villas. I originally intended for the Silverstag to have no redlines whatsoever, but as I wrote, it became necessary to include a few to make sure it remains a relatively 'rare' animal as I intended with its writing.

Anyhoops, more lore to come from me soon, possibly more geared towards a darker medium (mostly towards Naztherak/Infernal/Ibleesian), but, this is me dipping my toes in the LotC lorewriting water =) Hope y’all enjoy the Azuran Silverstag!

Isnt this just the tahala stag but player event? (I am actually being serious on the question as I'm pretty sure the tah stag is here on this map too)

Pallo DM'd me when I sent him the lore (I love him more than any other ST) and brought to my attention that the Tah stag is a thing. I haven't read the Tah stag lore and didn't know it existed (admittedly my own research fault), but I'd like to think they are different, unless I accidentally literally used the same art. I intended for this to be just a silly little critter, no connections to Tahariae or any aengudaemonica ;w;

@Navigator I play the Fawn Druid so more cervidae is fine with me 1f601.png

Like @Astrophysicalsay, this could be, like, a "fool's" version or a "common" version of the Tahariae stag, naturally occuring on Azuras, and maybe open up a possible lore avenue for someone interest in maybe tying Tahariae to the Silverwoods? I dunno, like I said, I just wanted to make a critter and I'm happy people like it at least :3

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
