Greetings everyone,

I’d like to use this thread to gather player suggestions for custom fish species—unique to our server and its lore.

If you’ve interacted with Hooked since the temporary map, you may have already noticed several updates:

  • Custom nutrition and saturation values for different fish rarities.

  • Over 20 distinct biome-dependent loot tables (each now averaging around 12 items, down from 20–30).

  • A significantly higher chance to catch edible fish over junk items.

  • The ability to capture and display fish in aquariums using an empty bucket and a Fishing Net in your offhand.

Cooked variants are still a work in progress, as is ensuring that fish spawn with consistent patterns and colors rather than random ones. In the meantime, we’d like to begin compiling player-suggested fish—species that feel unique to this map or that enhance regional and cultural lore.

Submission Format

Below is the formatting template and the kind of information we’d like players to include when submitting their fish ideas. The goal is to help bring your region’s ecology and lore to life in-game.

Here’s an example entry based on a fish already requested for inclusion in the Hooked plugin:

name: "Petran Trout"

isFish: true

material: "COD"

amount: 1

scale: 1

description: "A species of trout native to the cold, fast-flowing waters of the Petra. It is easily recognizable by its silver scales and faint reddish outline along its fins. It holds great importance to the Petrine people."

size: small

pattern: 2

color1: LIGHT_GRAY

color2: RED

biome: Autumn_meadows

Notes on Values

  • isFish: Indicates whether the item is an actual fish (true) or a junk/treasure catch (false).

  • Size, Pattern, and Colors: These values tie into future plugin updates that will allow fish to spawn with specific visual patterns and color combinations—unique aesthetics that match their lore descriptions.

Below, you’ll find a visual chart displaying Minecraft’s available fish sizes (top row: large → bottom row: small), pattern options (numbered left to right), and the corresponding color segments (color1 = lighter portion, color2 = darker portion).
image.thumb.png.39f5c7b4f1f85d2019ce5052e2690dec.png

Our goal is to finalize these player-made additions before the next round of plugin fixes. That way, when those changes are implemented, we’ll launch a fully realized fishing system shaped by your input.

Thank you for helping us expand the world’s ecosystem and lore through your creativity and suggestions.

Would you only be looking for submissions for the different variants of the tropical fish mob, or would you be open to submissions w/ other fish mods (also. turtle maybe) ?

Turtles, most mobs are fine, forgot to mention you can alter scale of mobs so if you want a miniature turtle mob to capture/fish up that's doable, and just have its item be represented as something else besides a turtle.

Also, I'd like to point out that the following part of the template:

size: small

pattern: 2

color1: LIGHT_GRAY

color2: RED

Is only relevant if you want to use a tropical fish as the base mob that gets fished up. If you want to just have a Cod, or Salmon, or turtle, or squid scaled up or down that's fine.

If everyone could also include the following in their formatting template, that'd be much appreciated:

Scale : 1

Biome: Autumn_meadows

It could honestly be any item! Maybe an echo shard, or string? Also, if it could be more common around storm island that'd be sick!

I'll come back with more ideas later.

biome: All inland woods/plains/meadows/mountain biomes.

Note: If MC tadpoles growing into frogs eventually causes issues then dw about this one OR replace with grey fish?

biome: All inland woods/plains/meadows/mountain biomes.

A collection of fantasy inspired fish for use, or ideas. Idk.

name: Fizzin Splasher

isFish: true

material: "Tropical Fish"

amount: 1

scale: 1

description: "This fish is imbued by some old and ancient power which causes it to, sometimes, teleport. By some means or some reason it has allowed itself to be caught. There are tales of fish like these which, around a certain age, decide to intentionally be captured or eaten by predators. Though the reasoning is unclear it is likely too tired to displace itself any further. The taste of it is somewhat offputting. No matter how it's prepared.  And it smells like it's already been cooked!"

size: large

pattern: 3

color1: Yellow

color2: Blue

biome: All

(Maybe a good way for people to turn fish into something useable in magic with a more defined lorepost. Or just some fantasy fluff.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

name: Chatter

isFish: true

material: "Tropical Fish"

amount: 1

scale: 1

description: "Immedieatly upon you catching and looking at this fish it starts to speak in riddles in rhymes. In various different languages. Infact. It doesn't seem to stop talking. Whatever it is exactly talking about is entirely unclear. But through the ramblings you may discern certain specific phrases. As if it is cursing you for taking it out of the water. And demanding you return it. It has an awful taste but can be made into a rather delicious stew by an expert chef."

size: large

pattern: 1

color1: Red

color2: Red

biome: Deep_Ocean

(I think talking fish are funny. Could have a deeper or better use overall.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

name: Mana Muscle

isFish: false

material: "Amethyst Shard"

amount: 1

scale: 1

description: "Locked inside of a clam- of unusual proportions. This creature constantly radiates with mana. For what use and whimsy it may be used for is entirely dependent on the mage who holds it. The amount of mana it gives off is never more than a flicker. Normal, non-magi will see it as nothing more than a fancy glowing gem."

size: N/A

pattern: N/A

color1: n/a

color2: n/a

biome: Deep_Ocean

(Maybe serving as a way for characters who fish as a proffesion to have something mages would desire to trade/buy from them. Leading to more roleplay They could have special properties for anyone using magic as a whole. Not sure.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

name: Whispering Whale Child

isFish: true

material: "Tropical Fish"

amount: 1

scale: (Highest it can go, reasonably)

description: "This is a dark specimen. Pulled from the shadows of the deep. It's eyes seem devoid of life and it does not move nor does it breath. But it is very much alive. If one were to lean in and give a close listen they may perhaps hear the sorrowful wailing of descendants lost at sea. It can be cooked, and anything it cooks into will ultimatley be poison to anything other than creatures born of dark magic. It makes for perfect bait to catch what lurks. Ancient beasts which are said to dwell in the depths and strike fear into any who dare venture that far. Or dark creatures of the land which feast upon souls."

size: small

pattern: 6

color1: Dark_blue

color2: Dark_blue

biome: Deep_Ocean

(Serving as a way for players to potentially summon and fight player led event sea monsters or event team led, should probably be very rare if that's the case.)

All in all some pretty basic ones to get people's mind going. I can expand if I think of anything or it is needed to fillout some more biome specific locations/regions.
